Avery Parker became the program’s career home run leader last weekend when she hit home run No. 46 at Iowa on April 19 and since then has hit seven home runs to bring her career total to 53. Of Indiana’s 42 wins this year, 21 of them have been by run rule. Against Portland State in the Littlewood Invitational (Feb. 12), VanBrandt hit for the cycle as part of a 5-for-5 day where she also totaled two home runs.

Indiana had a good showing at the Big Ten Tournament. After having a bye in the first round as the No. 4 Seed, Indiana routed No. 5 Seed Washington in a 9-2 win in the quarterfinals before reaching the tournament’s semifinals. No. 1 Seed Nebraska won that game 5-0. In the win over Washington, both Aly VanBrandt and Alex Cooper each hit a home run. VanBrandt’s came in the third inning while Cooper’s sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth. In that game, Parker became the career RBI leader with her hit to shortstop, scoring two Hoosiers and putting her career total at 206 RBI. Ella Troutt was excellent in the circle as she went 5.0 innings and only allowed four hits and two runs in the win. Indiana’s Alex Cooper, Madalyn Strader and Aly VanBrandt all earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors.

Virginia enters the regional with a 38-13 record and a 13-10 mark in ACC play. They won their first ACC Tournament against Pittsburgh before losing to Virginia Tech in the quarterfinal. Tennessee is making its 23rd overall and 22nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend. They have hosted 21 straight regional rounds in Knoxville. The Lady Vols have a 42-10 record and were 16-8 in the SEC. They dropped their first game in the SEC Tournament in a 4-1 loss to Ole Miss. Tennessee’s Karlyn Pickens was drafted No. 1 overall by the Carolina Blaze in the 2026 AUSL College Draft on Monday, May 3. Northern Kentucky is 26-23 and won the Horizon League Championship to clinch their NCAA bid. Indiana owns an all-time record of 2-1 against Virginia with the last meeting being in 2019. Indiana and Tennessee have met six times in their program histories with Tennessee having a 6-0 record in the series. Indiana and Northern Kentucky have never faced one another in softball

Indiana University Women’s Golfer Sheridan Clancy Advances to the NCAA Championships Indiana University Women’s Golfer Sheridan Clancy finished Second in the NCAA Regional at the University of Louisville Golf Course in Simpsonville, Kentucky on Wednesday and will advance to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad California. Fisher was selected in the seventh round by Houston in last month’s NFL Draft. According to Spotrac, Fisher signed a 4 year, $4,507,576 contract with the Texans, including a $127,576 signing bonus, $127,576 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,126,894. In 2026, Fisher will earn a base salary of $885,000 and the signing bonus of $127,576. The Texans took Fisher with the 243rd pick. He was the first IU player drafted by the franchise, and his selection marked an all-time Indiana record for players chosen in an NFL Draft. He’s wearing No. 59 in spring activities with Houston.

Fisher was Indiana’s primary leader on and off the field ever since Curt Cignetti took over in December 2023. Like Cignetti, he came to IU from James Madison. Fisher led the Hoosiers with 118 tackles in 2024 and finished second in 2025 with 97. The Fredericksburg, Va. native recorded 10.5 tackles for loss as a senior this past season, with 5.5 in 2024. He came up with two interceptions in 2025, including an early pick six against UCLA, as well as one forced fumble. “It’s hard to put into words how important he’s been,” Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines said of Fisher. “He’s part of the culture change here. He’s part of my voice, my mouthpiece to the guys on the field. He’s the green dot. He’s the leader. He’s the unquestioned leader.”

Including his two seasons at James Madison, he appeared in 51 career games with 39 starts. He became Indiana’s first-ever first-team All-America linebacker in 2024 (FWAA, Phil Steele), the first-ever Hoosier defender to earn multiple first-team All-America nods and first back-to-back first-team All-American since offensive lineman Dan Feeney (2015-16). He becomes the fifth Hoosier to sign his rookie contract joining Pat Coogan of the Tennessee Titans, D’Angelo Ponds of the New York Jets, Riley Nowakowski of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kaelon Black of the San Francisco. Three Hoosiers have not signed their contracts including number 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza of the Las Vegas Raiders, Omar Cooper Jr. of the New York Jets and Elijah Sarratt of the Baltimore Ravens.

Local TV Blackout Lifted for the Indianapolis 500 For the Second Year in Row after Reserved Grandstand Seating Sells Out Reserved seating for the Indianapolis 500 on May 24 will be sold out for the second consecutive year, and the local television broadcast delay will be lifted again. The final reserved seating tickets were expected to be sold on Wednesday, said a news release from Amanda Stanley, communications director at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This year’s sellout happened a week earlier than last year’s. The grandstands also sold out in 2016, the 100th edition of the race. The track is estimated to have about 350,000 reserved seats. Resale reserved-seating tickets remained available on Wednesday. The race also sold out in 2021, when the race was limited to 135,000 fans due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The race was first locally broadcast in 1949 and 1950 on WFBM-TV, the progenitor of WRTV, as a way to induce sales of TV sets. The speedway, however, worried that gate receipts would drop and ended the local live-TV coverage. But the race continued to be broadcast live on the radio and, from 1964 to 1970, on closed-circuit TV watched in theaters around the nation. Nationwide live-TV broadcasts of the race began in 1986, but they were blacked out locally, usually to be aired hours later. The 500 didn’t air on TV again in Indianapolis until the sellout of 2016, which was the 100th edition of the race, and in 2020 and 2021 due to capacity restrictions due to the coronavirus. It also aired live in 2025 due to the sellout. This Year’s Indy 500 will be Televised on FOX.

Cailtin Clark Scores 24 Points to lead the Indiana Fever to their First Win of the Season over the Los Angeles Sparks Caitlin Clark had 24 points and nine assists, Kelsey Mitchell added 23 points, and the Indiana Fever beat the Los Angeles Sparks 87-78 on Wednesday night.
