Rosenqvist passed David Malukas on the final straightaway to win his first career Indianapolis 500. After the narrow win, Rosenqvist described the out-of-body experience it was to win the Indianapolis 500 in front of over 350,000 people. “I’m still not able to take it in,” Rosenqvist said. “I need another month or week. It’s been such a crazy month for me. That finish, man, I can’t get over that finish. It’s so unbelievable how close it was, I feel like any of the four of us could’ve won it. It just worked out perfectly.” This year’s Indy 500 ended on a one-lap restart. The green flag waved on lap 199, and chaos ensued for the final 2.5-mile sprint.

Marcus Armstrong opened the final lap with the lead before David Malukas passed Armstrong coming out of Turn 1. As they headed to Turn 4, Rosenqvist made his move and passed Malukas on the final straight away to mark the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history. Rosenqvist beat Malukas to the finish line by a mere 0.023 seconds. Rosenqvist shared how much of a whirlwind the final lap was for him. “That last lap, I just stayed flat on the outside, and I was like, at this point, I’m just going to go all in,” Rosenqvist said. “It just worked out, I had a little tow off with Dave in the last corner, and it’s enough to take me over the line. It was pretty gnarly. I’ve never tried it around here, but I did, and it worked for the whole lap. I just hung around the outside flat.”

Rosenqvist added more on how exhilarating the last lap felt. “I think, honestly, if I replayed it a million times, it wouldn’t have ended up the same,” Rosenqvist said. “Everything was just 10 out of 10, and it’s no better feeling to win this race, like that, during a month where I had a baby sixteen days ago. Incredible.” This year’s Indianapolis 500 had the most lead changes in the race’s 110-year history, with 70.

Final results from Sunday’s historic Indianapolis 500 Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway marked the closest finish in Indy 500 history. Felix Rosenqvist won the Indy 500 for the first time in his career. Rosenqvist’s win came on a one-lap shootout on the 199th lap. Marcus Armstrong began the final lap in the lead before David Malukas passed him out of Turn 1. Then, on Turn 4 of the 199th lap, Rosenqvist made his final move on the back stretch to beat Malukas by 0.0233 seconds. During the post-race car inspection of Palou’s No. 10 Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing, IndyCar officials found out that the front wing of the No. 10 Honda failed the front wing height measurement. Because of the post-race penalty, Palou was penalized five championship driver and entrant points in addition to his team, Chip Ganassi Racing, being fined 10,000 dollars. IndyCar officials say the violation was a result of an assembly error and not an intentional modification of the No. 10 Honda. Chip Ganassi Racing violated the following rule. “Rule 14.7.6.7.1. For the purposes of technical inspection, the front wing must not measure less than 8.300 inches when set at any angle, while installed on the INDYCAR technical inspection fixture,” per IndyCar Officiating. First Sgt. Aaron Pfaff of the Indiana State Police said his agency’s plan for directing post-race traffic was to “get the pedestrians out in a safe manner and then manage the traffic in and out in a safe manner.” “Right now, we have the roundabout (next to Indianapolis Motor Speedway) shut down to all vehicular traffic while we get the pedestrians out of Gate 1 at the speedway. And once that slows down, then we’ll open it up to vehicle traffic.”

Despite the formidable amount of traffic, some race fans simply got into their cars and prepared for a long drive, undaunted. Race fan Lenin Gonzalez said, “Maybe it’s gonna take me like an hour? Usually it takes me five minutes, (but) this is part of the game, right?” Haley Oakes, who was traveling with a group from Terre Haute, estimated it would take them about an hour and a half to get home. “We’re just going to ease out of here We’re going straight through. We’re not stopping.”

But Trevor Young and his family, after being burned in the past, took a more strategic approach for their race exit. “Last year was our first year here, and we had to walk 6 miles to get out because Uber couldn’t get in here. This year, we did the opposite and we stayed at a local hotel, and then we (are taking) the airport shuttle. We can sit, relax. My little one can take a nap.” Brian Miller, a veteran of more than 40 Indy 500 races, said the key to a smooth race exit is not to leave right away and just wait for the traffic to clear. “Wait, be patient. Don’t get in any hurry. Go visit your family. Go visit your friends. Have a good time. Anunoby was named to the Second Team All-Defense after finishing ninth in total voting. The nine-year pro was also named to the second team in the 2022-23 season as a member of the Raptors. Anunoby averaged 1.6 steals and 0.7 blocks and had a 3.2 Defensive Win Share (DWS), which estimates the number of wins contributed due to defense. The latter figure was his highest mark since a 3.7 DWS in 2021-22. Knicks head coach Mike Brown is a strong advocate for Anunoby’s defense. “He’s a great defender and he does a lot of different things that people don’t see on that end of the floor for us and for other teams he played for,” Brown said in April. “But more importantly, his versatility is just off the charts and you can do a lot of things with your defense because of him.”

Anunoby has been a strong defender throughout his time at the professional level. He finished the 2022-23 NBA season with the most steals per game, 1.9, and the most total steals, 128, in the league. With impressive length and athleticism, Anunoby flashed the potential to be an elite defender at the next level during his two seasons at IU. His impressive length combined with uncanny instincts allowed him to regularly get into passing lanes and effectively close out on shooters. While he was still a relative unknown nationally towards the end of his freshman year, Anunoby was introduced to the basketball world in a Sweet 16 contest against Kentucky when he made several eye-catching plays, including a crucial late-game block on a 3-pointer by Jamal Murray. The NBA discussions intensified immediately. Anunoby’s 2025-26 season is still going. The Knicks are currently playing in the Eastern Conference Finals and hold a 2-0 lead over Cleveland.

Indiana University Football’s Jamari Sharpe and Tyrqiue Tucker both on Lott Trophy preseason watch list The Lott IMPACT Trophy has announced 42 candidates for the 2026 Lott IMPACT Trophy. And there was no better time than Saturday’s elimination game, when Jordan Malott delivered the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth to lift the top overall seed and No. 1-ranked Taylor past the fourth seed and No. 10-ranked Doane 10-8 at the Avista NAIA World Series. It was the first World Series elimination game victory for the TU baseball program, with the Trojans advancing to another elimination game Today at 11 a.m. PT (2 p.m. ET) against third-seeded and No. 4-ranked Lewis Clark State, the host of the national championship event. The Warriors defeated No. 2 seed Georgia Gwinnett in Saturday night’s elimination game. Prior to Monday’s matchup, the Trojans will return to Harris Field on Sunday to host a graduation ceremony for its 10 seniors that missed Saturday’s graduation in Upland.

In the victory, TU (53-6) snapped back to form offensively following Friday’s setback and jumped out to a 7-1 lead after three innings. The Trojans also rode a quality outing from starter Lane Lewis, who logged a career-high six innings – the longest start by a Trojan both this season and in a World Series game – and tied his career-best strikeout total with six punchouts. Malott, Ben Kennedy and Brayden Manning registered two hits apiece, combining for six of the 10 total base knocks for the Trojans. Doane (47-11) grabbed the game’s first lead on a sacrifice fly, but the Trojans quickly responded and tied the game in the bottom of the first on back-to-back two-out hits. Manning doubled to center field, extending his active hit streak to 18 games while reaching safely in 37 straight outings, before Malott brought him in on a single to left with the first of his two run-producing hits, which brought the senior first baseman into a first-place tie for the TU single-season RBI record (94 – TJ Bass).

TU would end up tacking runs on during each of the first four innings, including a five-spot in the second frame after a momentum boost from catcher Kaden Wu, who threw out a runner at second base to end the top half of the inning. TU’s first three batters then reached in the bottom of the second inning, with back-to-back singles by Sam Gladd and Fletcher Roemmich before Nate Simpson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Two of the biggest hits of the day followed, with pinch-hitter Quinn Kunkel producing for the second day in a row with a clutch two-run single. That was followed by a Kennedy three-run homer to right center to put the Trojans ahead 6-1. Kennedy, who recorded his career-best 12th home run, moved up to the leadoff spot in the lineup and continued his postseason tear with his fourth blast in six games.

After Doane got a run back on a solo homer, Kennedy stayed hot at the plate and produced his fourth run of the day on a double in this next at-bat to put the Trojans ahead 8-2 in the fourth inning. The senior shortstop has tallied 15 RBIs over the previous six games, with three separate four-RBI outings. Lewis struck out a pair in the fifth and worked through the sixth after a two-out run-producing hit gave the Tigers their third run with TU leading 8-3. Over the middle innings, the Trojan bats went quiet as nine consecutive TU hitters were retired until Kennedy was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth.

That allowed Doane to rally back and even the score at 8-8, as the Tigers put up five runs in the top half of the eighth, including a game-tying three-run homer off the bat of Jordan Bond. However, the Trojans countered with two runs to claim the final 10-8 advantage after Kennedy reached base and scored on Malott’s double for the go-ahead run. Manning, who also reached after getting plunked, scored the final run on a wild pitch. JT Tabor and Jake Boyer combined to cover the final three innings on the mound, with Boyer earning the relief win for his eighth victory of the season after slamming the door in the ninth. The trio of Trojan hurlers struck out nine combined batters and did not issue a walk or hit-by-pitch. Doane used five pitchers as reliever Ethen Roberts was tagged with the loss after tossing a team-high 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.

Felix Rosenqvist wins 110th Running of Indianapolis 500 in thrilling fashion Felix Rosenqvist won the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500.
