Six-time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon will also be joining him, according to the ESPN report. For just the third time in the history of the Indianapolis 500, a Swedish driver won “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in a race that couldn’t have been more dramatic. A month later, the historic winner announced he is leaving his team at the end of the season. On Wednesday, June 24, the NTT IndyCar Series made the announcement that Rosenqvist will be leaving Meyer Shank Racing after driving for them for the rest of this season.

Rosenqvist passed David Malukas at the Yard of Bricks after a one-lap shootout to win his first Indy 500 and break the record for the closest finish in the race’s storied history. The race was one decided by alternate strategies. Rain caused two separate caution periods, including a red flag midway through the race, that allowed teams to do deep dives into the best way to strategize. However, after Josef Newgarden crashed coming to the green flag on Lap 125, the teams of Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward made the call to pit for fuel. Stopping at that point gave them an opportunity to finish the race on one more stop while the rest of the field had to make two more. As the field came off Turn 4 for the final time, Malukas went low, trying to use the “dragon” technique that was used by Marcus Ericsson to win his his first Indy 500 in 2022. But Rosenqvist would not be denied. Rosenqvist drafted off Malukas and made his move at the perfect time to secure his first Indianapolis 500 win by just .0233 of a second. A crushed Malukas was nearly in tears after the race as Rosenqvist celebrated his team’s second “500” win and first since Hélio Castroneves joined the four-time club in 2021. Not only was the race the closest finish in Indy 500 history, it also smashed the record for most lead changes, with 70 officially counted at the line.

Gary Kloppenburg steps in as interim team advisor for the Indiana Fever as team scout steps up as interim assistant coach A former assistant coach for the Indiana Fever is returning to the team in an interim position.
