Team USA (Indiana University) Men\u2019s Basketball Advances to the FISU America Games Gold Medal Game <\/strong> Who said youth is wasted on the young? Not for Indiana basketball. Not for its Team USA designation as it continues to roll through the FISU America Games in Lima, Peru. With freshmen\u00a0Vaughn Karvala,\u00a0Prince-Alexander Moody, and\u00a0Trevor Manhertz\u00a0continuing to play beyond their years while veterans such as\u00a0Darren Harris,\u00a0Aiden Sherrell, and\u00a0Sam Alexis\u00a0keep dominating, Team USA rolled to a 107-40 victory over Chile in Saturday’s semifinals. “All three of those guys have been good for us,” coach\u00a0Darian DeVries\u00a0said about the freshmen. “They play with a lot of confidence. This has been a great opportunity for them to get extra playing time and get some meaningful minutes.”

After scoring 32 points against Virgin Islands on Thursday, Karvala moved into Saturday’s starting lineup along Sherrell,\u00a0Jaeden Mustaf,\u00a0Bryce Lindsay, and\u00a0Markus Burton. He finished with 16. Moody added six points and Manhertz four. “I love the versatility they bring,” DeVries said. “They’ve continued to get better from the moment they stepped on campus. There’s a ton of room for them to grow into yet. That’s an exciting piece about those guys.”

Harris added 15 points. Sherrell and Alexis each had 14.\u00a0Trent Sisley\u00a0totaled 13. As far as Harris, a Duke transfer, DeVries said, “I think you’ll see that from him as the season progresses and we get in regular season play. He’s one of those guys, when he gets on a heater, it’s pretty special. “I’m excited about what he’s done up to this point. Where he’s really at is defensively, he’s shown us some things. Then, his offense and rebounding. He’s done a great job of pursuing the ball. He’s had a special knack for that this summer, and especially in these games down here.”

Overall, Team USA has gone 3-0 with three blowout victories. Next up is Virgin Islands in Today’s championship game. Virgin Islands, which lost to Team USA 120-63 on Thursday, upset Argentina 63-61 in its Saturday semifinal game. Argentina had gone 3-0 in pool play. As for Saturday’s game, Team USA jumped ahead 8-2, then 11-7. Dunks by Harris and Sherrell, and then a Harris 3-pointer helped Team USA push ahead 24-7. A Sherrell 3-pointer made it 34-12 after the first quarter. A steal and layup by Burton, and then a whirling Alexis dunk followed by a three-point Alexis play made it 45-12 early in the second quarter. Moody’s 3-pointer made it 51-12. Mustaf’s three-point play gave Team USA a 64-20 halftime lead. Sherrell led with 14 points. Harris added 13 and Alexis 10. The lead swelled to 50 points in the third quarter. Team USA entered the final quarter leading 83-36 and cruised from there as DeVries utilized multiple different lineups, including walk-ons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

27 Former Indiana Hoosiers on 2026 NFL rosters as training camp commences<\/strong> Six NFL teams have already reported for training camp, and every team will have done so by Tuesday, July 28. With the season just around the corner, now is a perfect time to take a look at former Hoosiers who are battling for roster spots.\u00a0 As of Sunday morning, there are 27 former IU players at NFL camps.\u00a0 From now to the end of camp, roster sizes will be cut from 90 to 53 players. There is a very noticeable trend throughout the list. The majority of Hoosiers in the NFL are first or second-year players who played under Curt Cignetti for at least one season, including 15 players who were a part of the 2025-2026 team that won the program\u2019s first national championship. Cignetti\u2019s impact expands beyond the collegiate level. While Indiana used to be lucky to have any players drafted, now, they have become one of the leaders in producing NFL-ready talent.\u00a0 The best reflection of this change was Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza being selected No. 1 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, the first Hoosier drafted No. 1 since 1938.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hannah Rapp will join 2027 Indiana Boxing Hall of Fame Class Following Death<\/strong> Hannah Rapp, the championship-contending boxer from Indiana\u00a0tragically killed while biking in Texas, will be inducted into the Indiana Boxing Hall of Fame. Rapp, from Yorktown, was an Indiana Golden Gloves champion as an amateur, won the NABF featherweight title as a professional, and challenged for the WBC world featherweight championship in June.\u00a0 Rapp held an\u00a08-1-1 record as a pro, with 5 wins by knockout, when she died. \u201cShe\u2019s an Indiana legend for what she achieved in such a short time,\u201d\u00a0Indiana Boxing Hall of Fame\u00a0founder and president Craig Houk said, believing Rapp\u2019s accomplishments over such a short span deserve to be recognized.\u00a0 Houk called Rapp\u2019s coach to tell him Hannah Rapp would join the Hall of Fame class of 2027.\u00a0 \u201cHe almost broke down crying because he knew what that would mean a lot to Hannah, and knew what it would mean to her family,\u201d Houk said. \u201cShe knew that one day she\u2019d be a hall of famer. I think that was her dream come true. And I think she\u2019s accomplished everything she could accomplish in such a short period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 26-year old\u2019s life and career were cut short when a driver hit and killed her on July 18.\u00a0According to prosecuting documents, Rapp\u2019s boyfriend was biking with her along a rural road outside College Station, Texas when 31-year-old Charles Medina sped past them. When the boyfriend \u201cthrew his arms up and hollered\u201d, he said Medina \u201cslammed on his brakes and skidded to a stop before putting the vehicle in reverse\u201d and crashed into Rapp. She died at the hospital.\u00a0 Medina claimed he thought the two were flagging him down and didn\u2019t see Rapp. Investigators said the physical evidence at the scene \u201ccontradicted the defendant\u2019s account\u201d. Medina was initially booked on a manslaughter charge. According to jail records, a count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon has been added along with charges out of another county.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicknamed \u201cHanarchy\u201d, Rapp was known for her aggression as a boxer, and warmth and positivity outside the ring. She also competed in track and field at Purdue.\u00a0 Rapp\u2019s death has led to an outpouring of support across Indiana and Texas.\u00a0Simultaneous candlelight vigils\u00a0were held at her boxing gym in Bryan, Texas, former gym in Brookston, Indiana, as well as Yorktown, where she grew up.\u00a0Thousands have signed a petition\u00a0calling for increased bond penalties in Texas for people with a criminal history.\u00a0 Houk said one of Rapp\u2019s former opponents will be in attendance for her Hall of Fame induction, along with celebrity inductees, \u201cSugar\u201d Shane Mosely and former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes.\u00a0 The 2027 Indiana Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place April 30 and May 1 inside the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Airport, at 8910 Hatfield Drive in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark Combine for 45 Points and 10 Threes in 2026 WNBA All-Star Game<\/strong> The Indiana Fever were well represented at the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night in Chicago. The trio of Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark, and Kelsey Mitchell competed against each other on Saturday night thanks to this year\u2019s unique format. The Fever\u2019s three All-Stars were split up for this year\u2019s midseason showcase, with Boston and Clark starting for Team Spoon (picked by WNBA legend Teresa Weatherspoon) and Mitchell starting for Team Coop (picked by WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clark and Boston ended up with bragging rights, as Team Spoon came away with a 129-122 win. But Mitchell was excellent in the loss, scoring a game-high 28 points to go along with four rebounds and five steals, going 11-for-19 from the field and 5-for-11 from 3-point range. Clark, meanwhile, tallied 17 points, four boards, and five assists for Team Spoon, going 5-for-15 from beyond the arc. Boston played just five minutes to start the game before sitting out the rest of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clark put on a show to start Saturday\u2019s game, scoring 11 of Team Spoon\u2019s first 13 points. After scoring the first points of the night on a layup, Clark then drilled three successive 3-pointers from 28, 34, and 38 feet. Mitchell enjoyed her own scoring outburst midway through the second quarter, scoring 11 of 18 points for Team Coop over one stretch, including a three-point play and a pair of threes. Clark and Mitchell had 14 points apiece at halftime, but Team Spoon led 81-64. Mitchell did her best to spark a comeback in the second half, scoring 14 more points over the final two quarters, but Team Spoon held on for the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carson Kvapil wins the Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway<\/strong> JR Motorsports\u2019 Carson Kvapil won the Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, his first win in his NASCAR O\u2019Reilly Auto Parts Series career. Kvapil led for 23 of the 100 laps in the race. He started the race in second. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever forget kissing the bricks with all my guys,\u201d Kvapil said. \u201cJust super cool and amazing. I\u2019m just super grateful for everyone that\u2019s gotten me to this position in life.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m just so happy for Carson Kvapil,\u201d JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. \u201cHe deserves this. He\u2019s a great racecar driver. Belongs in this series. Good enough to race on Sundays. He\u2019s like family. We\u2019ve worked with him for awhile. It\u2019s really emotional to see those guys get what they deserve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI told him last night, \u2018It\u2019s your destiny to win this race tomorrow. You had a great car in practice. This is what you\u2019re meant to be doing.\u2019 He pulled it off,\u201d Earnhardt Jr. said. Kvapil reflected on his relationship with Earnhardt Jr. after the win. \u201cHe\u2019s been a really good friend of mine. I almost consider him family now\u2026 When he stuck his head in the window, I couldn\u2019t help but start crying, to be honest,\u201d Kvapil said. Justin Allgaier finished second and Ross Chastain finished third. Chastain led for 31 laps, the most laps led out of any driver in the race. Sheldon Creed started the race in pole position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Indianapolis Colts Player Daniel Adongo Deported by ICE<\/strong> A Kenyan national who played briefly with the National Football League\u2019s Indianapolis Colts has been deported by\u00a0Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u00a0in Chicago after he was previously ordered to leave the United States. Daniel Ogama Adongo, 37,\u00a0overstayed his visa in 2016 after his NFL career ended in 2015.\u00a0A Department of Justice immigration judge ordered him removed March 23, and ICE deported him June 20, the agency announced Friday. Adongo was arrested multiple times in Indiana over the past nine years for crimes including felony intimidation, battery\u00a0and disorderly conduct. He was convicted of\u00a0criminal mischief with damage\u00a0in 2020 and sentenced to 364 days\u00a0in jail, federal prosecutors said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adongo, a former rugby player who turned to football, was released by the Colts in 2015 after he played a total of five games, mostly on special teams. His release came after police were called to a home in suburban Indianapolis to check on a woman who lived at the residence with Adongo,\u00a0ESPN reported. According to a police report, the woman notified a friend via text message that she needed help. The friend got in touch with the police, who then arrived at the residence. There, the woman said she did not want medical assistance, and she could not explain why she sent the text, the report indicated. The most recent criminal charges fall under the\u00a0Laken Riley Act, which requires the detention, without bond, of migrants in the U.S. illegally for certain crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill was introduced following the murder of Laken Riley by a migrant who had previously been cited for shoplifting on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. President Trump signed the bill into law\u00a0shortly after taking office in 2025. Trump administration officials have reported that more than 356,000 people have been deported in fiscal year 2026 while ICE arrests have\u00a0increased significantly since May. \u201cThis dangerous individual was clearly a threat to the community, which is now safer since he\u2019s been removed,\u201d ICE Chicago Assistant Field Office Director Douglas Thompson said in a statement released by the Department of Homeland Security. \u201cThose who violate immigration law are held equally accountable, including former professional athletes.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layne Riggs leads all but 2 laps to win NASCAR Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park<\/strong> Layne Riggs put on a dominant performance in front of a\u00a0sold-out crowd\u00a0to win Friday night’s\u00a0NASCAR\u00a0<\/a>Craftsman Truck Series race at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.\u00a0 The 24-year-old driver from North Carolina led nearly wire-to-wire, holding the top spot for 198 out of the 200 laps. The win was Riggs’ fifth of the season, having previously won at St. Petersburg, Charlotte, Nashville and San Diego.\u00a0 Riggs started on pole for the race alongside his teammate Chandler Smith, who was the winner of the series’ most recent event one week ago at North Wilkesboro Speedway.\u00a0 Though, once the green flag fell, it was clear that the battle throughout the field would be to see who would finish second.\u00a0 “Man, what a truck,” Riggs told FOX Sports after the race. “I was on cruise control there for so much of the race.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dominant victory saw Riggs sweep both stages and extend his points lead to 99 over second place Kaden Honeycutt and 152 over his teammate Chandler Smith in third. Honeycutt, who won the ARCA race that was held prior to the Truck Series race, finished seventh in the Truck race and was the highest-finishing truck from TRICON Garage.\u00a0 Riggs’ teammate Chandler Smith finished fourth behind Connor Mosack, who finished second, and 2024 IRP race winner and series champion Ty Majeski, who finished third. After the race, Smith noted that he was happy with his performance even if he didn’t have the truck to catch his teammate.\u00a0 “The truck wasn’t really where I wanted it to be the few times I did contend for the lead with Layne, it was just, ugh, I couldn’t contend with the 34 truck tonight,” Smith told FOX Sports after the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was not an ideal night for any of the three Hoosier drivers who competed in the Craftsman Truck Series race.\u00a0Winamac native Justin Haley was the highest finishing Hoosier, coming home in 18th place.
