Bray Lynch and Nico Radicic on Preseason Watch Lists As Other IU Football Players get Sporting News Recognition<\/strong> IU football\u2019s anticipated 2026 starting center\u00a0Bray Lynch\u00a0is on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy. The award is given annually to the nation\u2019s top center. Lynch is an interesting addition to the list, as he\u2019s never played the position in college except for occasional spot duty.\u00a0 But he\u2019s got two years of experience starting at right guard for a team that has gone 27-2 over that span.\u00a0 He\u2019s expected to be IU\u2019s third-straight starting center who only started playing the position during his college career. Lynch is one of 40 players listed among the top centers in college football entering the 2026 season. The Big Ten leads the way with 13 honorees. Meanwhile, kicker\u00a0Nico Radicic\u00a0is on the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation\u2019s top kicker. Radicic was 18 of 19 kicking field goals on the 2025 national championship season and co-led the nation with his 94.7% make rate.\u00a0 He is 29 of 31 (.935) for his college career and he has never missed an extra point. He is one of 35 kickers on the Groza preseason watch list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sporting News, one of the five official selectors for All-American honors, named linebacker\u00a0Rolijah Hardy\u00a0and offensive tackle\u00a0Carter Smith\u00a0preseason First Team All-Americans.\u00a0 Wide receiver\u00a0Charlie Becker\u00a0was named to the second team. That outlet also named\u00a0Fernando Mendoza\u00a0to The Sporting News 2020s All-Decade Team. Interestingly enough, the Sporting News was the one selector that did not name Mendoza First Team All-American in 2025, instead giving that honor to Diego Pavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBest 11\u201d: What do IU football\u2019s Defensive Lineman snaps look like after the addition of Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt?<\/strong> Two of Indiana\u2019s most impactful defenders from the 2025 national championship team are unexpectedly back. Over the last few days, edge rushers Stephen Daley and Kellan Wyatt were both granted fifth years by a federal court injunction, and both announced their intent to return to IU. The news creates something of an embarrassment of riches for Indiana, especially along the outside of its defensive line. Defensive coordinator Bryant Haines has gone from what projected to be a very good line to a group that looks like the best he\u2019s had in the last three years, and arguably the best in the nation \u2014 at least when you consider what he\u2019s able to get out of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Daley and Wyatt were lost to season-ending injuries in 2025.  Combined they played 772 snaps last season, still less than some every-down players on the team.  And the duo combined for 27 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks in 13 games.  That\u2019s an incredible amount of production to suddenly have added to the roster in early August, just over a month ahead of the 2026 season. The addition of Daley and Wyatt begs some questions \u2014 namely how will Haines allocate snaps?  During last season\u2019s title run he often used the phrase \u201cbest 11 on the field,\u201d and we suspect you\u2019ll see a lot of creativity from the Broyles Award winner to ensure he does just that in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the main contenders for meaningful snaps along the defensive front in 2026.  Don\u2019t view this as a depth chart with the 1s, 2s and 3s listed in order, but instead who could play where in an effort to maximize the talent available. To give you a sense for just how experienced this group is, each player\u2019s total career college snaps are in parenthesis. Defensive Tackle\/Nose Tackle-Tucker and Hjelle seems fairly locked in here. Tyrique Tucker, 6-foot, 307 (1,240 career snaps). Joe Hjelle, 6-foot-3, 318 (756). 3-Technique\/Interior-Indiana went two-deep on the interior last year.  Bumping Obiazor inside might be the answer to maximizing his snaps and impact. Chiddi Obiazor 6-foot-5, 279 (860). Mario Landino, 6-foot-4, 288 (707). Defensive End (Field End)-The two end positions are where Indiana is stacked with talent. Stephen Daley 6-foot-1, 273 (1,740). Josh Burnham 6-foot-4, 255 (882). Chiddi Obiazor. Stud\/OLB-Josh Burnham. Tobi Osunsanmi 6-foot-2, 251 (671). Kellan Wyatt, 6-foot-2, 257 (1,393). Daniel Ndukwe, 6-foot-3, 238 (214). Third Linebacker? -It\u2019s worth remembering, Indiana spent a lot of time in a 4-3 defense in 2025 with Isaiah Jones on the field as the strong-side third linebacker.  Jones was often at the line of scrimmage and was used heavily as a pass rusher.  He\u2019s moving to middle linebacker this year, leaving an opening in that scheme. Osunsanmi began his college career as a linebacker, and he has all-state speed as a sprinter.  Wyatt played outside linebacker at Maryland.  Either could potentially man the Sam linebacker role at times in an effort to go \u201cbest 11,\u201d with the scenario (run vs. pass) dictating the better fit. Kellan Wyatt There won\u2019t be a lot of snaps for younger, inexperienced players this year, but there does appear to be an opportunity for at least one emerging talent with good size along the interior to see some meaningful action.  Indiana has six first or second-year interior players at 280-pounds or more.  It won\u2019t be a surprise to see one of them on the field regularly after some early season evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ESPN sets ceiling and floor for the 2026-27 Indiana University Basketball<\/strong> Season <\/strong> How good can Indiana basketball be in Darian DeVries\u2019 second season at IU?  How low can they go? ESPN\u2019s Myron Medcalf took a shot at setting a ceiling and a floor for every team in the Big Ten ahead of the 2026-27 season. Admittedly, this exercise is a bit premature with the potential for very late cycle roster additions like we saw last weekend when Sam Alexis announced his intent to return to IU. But a national perspective on the league still makes for an interesting expectation setting exercise here in early August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s where Medcalf set Indiana\u2019s ceiling and floor: CEILING-Total wins: 25. Big Ten finish: Fourth. Postseason finish: NCAA tournament round of 32. This seems reasonable, if perhaps a bit conservative for a true ceiling.  Counting the postseason, it doesn\u2019t seem beyond the realm of what\u2019s possible for IU to pass 25 wins. Most prognosticators believe Michigan State, Michigan and Illinois are a top three that\u2019s going to be hard to beat, which is likely why Medcalf doesn\u2019t project IU higher than fourth.  The Hoosiers do have a very favorable league schedule, however.  Indiana only faces those top three teams once, and all of those games are in Bloomington.  That\u2019s why 27 wins might be a better ceiling, but it can be hard to think about IU that way.  They haven\u2019t reached that win total in a decade. The postseason finish is the ceiling we\u2019d take the most issue with.  In the wacky NCAA Tournament, Indiana definitely has a roster capable of playing in the second weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-27 FLOOR- Total wins: 19. Big Ten finish: Eighth. Postseason finish: NCAA tournament round of 64. The floor seems reasonable for IU.  The roster is too talented and deep to finish much lower in any of these categories barring significant injuries. Said differently, if Indiana doesn\u2019t make the now 76 team NCAA Tournament next spring, there will be major red flags regarding the direction of the program. What about the rest of the conference? Ordered by their best case scenario, Medcalf slots in Michigan State as first in the Big Ten, with a ceiling that includes 35 wins and the national title.  He also gives Michigan a chance to repeat as champions, and Illinois a chance to return to the Final Four. Indiana has just the 10th-highest ceiling in the Big Ten according to Medcalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indianapolis Colts legendary Place Kicker Adam Vinatieri enshrined into football immortality<\/strong> On Saturday, former legendary Indianapolis Colts placekicker was enshrined into football immortality in Canton, Ohio, as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame\u2019s Class of 2026: You can find Vinatieri\u2019s entire Pro Football Hall of Fame speech\u00a0here<\/a><\/strong>, which included humorous quips regarding his former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, as well as his All-Pro special teams mate Pat McAfee. While fellow Hall of Famer, and his former general manager Bill Polian, presented him with his gold jacket on Friday night, it was Colts team owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon, who was his presenter on Saturday, as a token of Vinatieri\u2019s appreciation for her late father Jim Irsay and what his family did for him throughout his illustrious pro kicking career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of Vinatieri\u2019s former Colts teammates were in attendance for his enshrinement including fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Dwight Freeney, his Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy, as well as Dallas Clark, Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck, and McAfee, among others. From 2006 until 2019 with Indianapolis, Vinatieri converted 336 of 394 his field goal attempts (85.3%) and 507 of his 524 extra point attempts (96.8%). He appeared in 205 career games with the Colts, and his 19 postseason games are the most by any player in Indianapolis franchise history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will be inducted into the franchise\u2019s Ring of Honor during Week 6 at home against the Tennessee Titans on October 18th of this upcoming season. Vinatieri is the greatest kicker in NFL history. He should\u2019ve been first ballot last year, much like Mariano Rivera was as a closer for the New York Yankees, because he\u2019s unquestionably the greatest to do it at his position ever. Just like #42 for the New York Yankees had ice in his veins to close out games in the biggest moments and stages of his sport\u2014which for Vinatieri included multiple game-winning Super Bowl field goal kicks, and challenging playoff field goals in difficult road and\/or weather conditions. Still, Vinatieri\u2019s wait, as the NFL\u2019s all-time leading scorer with 2,673 total points scored wasn\u2019t long, even if having such a wait at all was pretty unnecessary. The 4x Super Bowl Champion (including Super Bowl XLI with the Colts), 3x First-Team NFL All-Pro, and 3x NFL Pro Bowler will now have his bronze bust speak to the other legends enshrined into the Hall at night for as long as pro football\u2019s greatest honor still exists as a living and breathing museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WNBA rescinds Indiana Fever Guard Caitlin Clark\u2019s technical foul at the Chicago Sky<\/strong> \u00a0 Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will not be forced to miss the team\u2019s next game. Clark had\u00a0received a technical foul\u00a0in the third quarter against the Chicago Sky on Saturday afternoon. The technical foul was given to her for bumping an official. That would have been her eighth technical foul of the season, which would have triggered an automatic one-game suspension for the guard for the team\u2019s next game. Instead, the WNBA\u00a0rescinded the technical foul\u00a0on Saturday evening. Now, Clark will be able to play in Indiana\u2019s game Tonight against the New York Liberty. Indiana will host the Liberty Tonight at 7:30 p.m. inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cam Taylor-Britt suspended for the Indianapolis Colts\u2019 season opener<\/strong> The Indianapolis Colts have encountered their first preseason hiccup. Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt has been suspended without pay for the first game of the regular season for violating the NFL\u2019s personal conduct policy, according to a league official. Taylor-Britt remains eligible to practice in training camp and participate in the three preseason games. He will miss the Sept. 13 opener against Baltimore at Lucas Oil Stadium and be eligible the following Monday. The one-week suspension costs Taylor-Britt $62,500. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was no explanation for the suspension, but Taylor-Britt was sentenced to five days in Hamilton County (Ohio) jail on Jan. 6 after pleading guilty to reckless driving and driving without a license from two separate 2025 incidents. When he signed a one-year free-agent contract with the Colts in March, Taylor-Britt admitted he had been dealing with \u201cpersonal\u2019\u2019 matters, which impacted his performance with Cincinnati last season. He appeared in eight games with just two starts and missed the final half of the season with a Lisfranc injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just couldn\u2019t get my head right, and it most definitely showed in my game,\u2019\u2019 he said in mid-March. Taylor-Britt was signed to help reinforce the Colts\u2019 secondary. He was reunited with coordinator Lou Anarumo, who was his coordinator with the Bengals. \u201cMan, that\u2019s my dawg,\u2019\u2019 Taylor-Britt said of Anarumo in March. \u201cThat\u2019s all I really say, man. \u201cI think that\u2019s one of the big reasons that I\u2019m here. When he gave me a call and had me come up, I was very excited. Can\u2019t wait for this opportunity.\u2019\u2019 Taylor-Britt has moved up the depth chart during the first two weeks of camp in Westfield. He often has been the fourth corner behind Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward and Justin Walley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2 fans escorted from seats in Las Vegas Aces’ overtime win against the Indiana Fever<\/strong> Two men were escorted from their courtside seats in Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the third quarter of the Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever matchup Thursday. The incident began after Las Vegas guard Jackie Young inbounded the basketball and motioned toward fans sitting courtside and spoke to a referee. The game was stopped for several minutes with 4:38 left in the quarter, and security escorted a woman, who was sitting in the front row directly across from the Aces bench, out through a tunnel. A few minutes later, she was assisted back to her seat, and two men who were seated near her were taken out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He was just chirping all game,” Young told reporters after the game. “I let him have it, and then he just made one that was a little bit too far.” Young declined to share specifics of what the fans said to her. “I think we’ll just keep it in here,” she said. “Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses,” the Fever said in a statement. “Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct. The fan was not removed from the arena, but elected to leave. We consider the matter closed.” Regardless of the outcome, Young was happy with how it was handled. “They did the right thing,” she said. “Obviously, we don’t want to see fans get kicked out, but at the end of the day, we’re human too.
