The Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Team closed out the two game exhibition portion of their schedule with a 1-0 win over the Loyola (Chicago) Ramblers Saturday Night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers outscored their opponents 7-1 after a 6-1 win over Bowling Green earlier in the week. Easton Bogard scored the game’s only goal in the 11th minute and Michael Mroz who played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hoosiers got the clean sheet. Indiana will open the regular season on Thursday at Home against In-State rival Notre Dame at 8 PM. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bogard scored a hat trick against Bowing Green and added to his tally with his fourth goal and could have added a fifth in the second half when Loyola Freshman Goalkeeper Ori Yedlin saved Bogard’s penalty kick. Bogard is in his third season with the Hoosiers as the Oak Park, Illinois native has appeared in 26 matches with 944 minutes played and scored 3 goals in 2025 including 2 game winners. The Exhibition season gets the team ready for a tough regular season as the Hoosiers will face one of the toughest schedules in the country as they do year after year. “For me personally it’s a way for me to stay sharp” Easton Bogard said after the match. ” It’s nice to score goals but more importantly it’s better to build connections with my teammates.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The teams played the traditional two 45-minute halves and Indiana dominated the match start to finish. In the first half Indiana outshot Loyola 9-0 as Loyola Junior Goalkeeper Max Ionita gave up the goal to Bogard and made three saves. The Hoosiers had 1 corner kick, and the Ramblers did not have any as the Hoosiers had the majority of possession and kept the Ramblers on their heels all match long. In the Second half Ionita was switched out for Yedlin and the Freshman Goalkeeper from Northbrook, Illinois faced 5 shots from the Hoosiers and made 4 saves including the penalty kick save diving to his right against Bogard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For match Indiana outshot Loyola 16-6 as the Ramblers made 7 saves and Indiana Goalkeeper Michal Mroz made 1 save in the second half. Indiana had 4 corner kicks and Loyola had 1 for the match. Loyola is coached by former Indiana Player Kevin Robson who played for the Hoosiers from 2003-06 and won Back-to-Back National Championships. Robson was graduate assistant in 2007and then returned to Bloomington in 2013 and was an assistant coach for Indiana Head Coach Todd Yeagley until 2025 when he was named coach of the Ramblers in December of 2025 and played two exhibition matches at Michigan State and Home against Indian Hills before returning to Bloomington. Loyola opens the Regular Season with a road trip to Green Bay on Thursday Night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Robson was not the only one from Loyola returning to Bloomington as Fifth Year Midfielder Seth Stewart who wore the cream and crimson for three seasons and was part of the 2022 Team that made the NCAA College Cup. Stewart played in 20 matches for the Hoosiers and made three career starts and got his first career start against Butler on September 4, 2024. The Oswego, Illinois native was a two-time Big Ten Regular Season Champion in 2023 and 2024, and the Hoosiers won the Big Ten Tournament in 2023 and two time All-Academic Big Ten Selection. Robson has three Indiana natives on his squad including Senior Defender Grant Bailey from Carmel, Junior Midfielder and Forward Benji Chavarria from Elkhart and the Indiana Connections Academy along with Freshman Defender Cohen Cavil from Evansville Reitz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indiana has a team that has a lot of returners but also 13 newcomers that gives Head Coach Todd Yeagley a lot of options to use. The Hoosiers can score a lot of goals and tonight with just one goal scored Yeagley thought it was good to see how his team handled a one goal lead throughout the match” I thought tonight in particular as much as we would have liked to score couple of more goals early and the game could have been more controlled it felt good to feel that pressure at the end with a one goal lead” Indiana Head Coach Todd Yeagley said after the match. Yeagley likes how this team has come together in a short amount of time. ” They spend a lot of time together and have gotten to know each other since they are not studying right now since its Preseason.” Classes begin on August 24 for Indiana University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoosiers brought in every player that they identified through the transfer portal and Yeagley Says they are doing everything that has been asked of them. Michal Mroz who transferred from Evansville will be the Hoosiers starting goalkeeper and played the entire 90 minutes that Coach Yeagley says was needed. “He came in January and was hurt and was out most of the Spring and Summer, so he needed 90 minutes tonight” Yeagley said. Indiana will play their first three matches at home with Notre Dame, Evansville and Butler before a road trip to Louisville and then home matches against Cal Poly and Denver before their first Big Ten Game at Michigan on September 11. Indiana faces a gauntlet and yet the Hoosiers always respond and the always have one goal in mind that is to be playing in Mid-December and looking to add a ninth star to the uniform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
