The #6 Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Soccer Team remains unbeaten after a 2-0 win over the Cal Poly Mustangs in the Addias\/ IU Credit Union Classic Friday Night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana improves to 4-0-1 on the season and will host the Denver Pioneers Monday Night at 8 PM in the second game of the annual Adidas\/IU Credit Union Classic that is a Labor Day Weekend Tradition for Indiana Men’s Soccer. Cal Poly drops to 1-1-3 on the season and played Denver to 2-2 draw at Denver on August 20. The Mustangs played UC Davis to a 2-2 on the Road August 23 and San Diego State to a 1-1 draw at home on August 30, The Mustangs only win came on August 27 against San Jose State at home 3-0. Head Coach Oige Kennedy is in his fourth season in charge of Cal Poly with a 22-19-20 record and overall record of 124-56-29 in 11 seasons as a head coach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoosiers are 4-0 at home this season and now lead the all-time series with Cal Poly 2-1. This was the first ever trip to Bloomington for Cal Poly as the teams met twice in the Mike Bertcelli Memorial Tournament at Notre Dame with Cal Poly winning the first meeting 1-0 on September 9, 2010, and Indiana winning 2-0 on August 25, 2017. Indiana is now 849-209-124 all time in program history and 385-67-54 all Bill Armstrong Stadium and 99-11-17 since 2016 with 69 shutouts in 127 matches. Indiana Head Coach Todd Yeagley is 220-76-59 in his 17th season and overall record of 227-85-61 in 18 seasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It only took two 2 minutes for the Hoosiers to get on the board as Clay Murador had the first shot on goal for the Hoosiers going to the bottom right of goal as Cal Poly Goalkeeper Matthew Guerra saved it but could not save the rebound shot on goal from Oliver Moller-Jensen who went to the bottom right of the goal of his right foot for his 4th goal of the season in 5 games. Moller-Jensen has scored 12 times in 53 games in his college career and for Murador it’s his first assist of the season and his 3rd of his career in his 49th appearance for the Hoosiers as Indiana took the early lead 1-0 for which is the earliest goal of the season. The Hoosiers have scored 2,790 goals all-time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoosiers controlled the possession for the first 20 minutes of the match taking 3 shots as Collin Pearce took the first shot for the Mustangs going to the bottom right of the net as Indiana Goalkeeper Michal Mroz made his first save of the night and his 7 save of the season. Cal Poly thought they had tied the game in the 31st minute but after a video review it was called back for offsides. Indiana scored 38 seconds later as Wes Carnavale scored his first goal as Hoosier after transferring from Cornell in his 5th appearance for the cream and crimson and his 10th goal in his 59th appearance. Alex Barger recorded his 3rd assist of the season and his 8th of his career in his 66th appearance as he crossed the ball into the box and Carnavale sent into the net passed Guerra for a 2-0 lead and the 2,791st goal in Indiana Men’s Soccer History. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cal Poly had a great chance in the 44th minute Devin Benning hit a shot top center of the goal and the Hoosiers cleared off the line to keep the Mustangs off the board as the Hoosiers took a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Cal Poly had a 6-4 shot advantage and both teams had 3 shots on goal. Michal Mroz made three saves between the pipes and Matthew Guerra made 1 save for the Mustangs. Indiana had 3-2 advantage on Corner Kicks, and the Mustangs were called for offsides once as Tanner Casey received a yellow card at the 38:12 mark for unsporting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second half did not have a goal as Indiana had 12-10 shot advantage and Cal Poly had a 4-3 had a shot on goal advantage. Indiana Goalkeeper Michal Mroz posted his third clean sheet of the season in his fifth match as a Hoosier making 4 saves. Mroz is 4-0-1 as Hoosier and 22-12-12 in 46 career appearances between Indiana and Evansville and 14 career shutouts. Matthew Guerra made 1 save for Cal Poly. Cal Poly committed 15 fouls, and the Hoosiers committed 3 fouls. Both teams had 4 corner kicks a piece and Indiana was called offsides twice and Cal Poly was offsides once. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a 1-1 draw Monday Night at Louisville the Hoosiers continue to dominate at home outscoring the opposition 9-1 and 10-2 overall with three clean sheets and the Hoosiers have not allowed a goal from the run of play this season.
