Indiana University Field Hockey Tops New Hampshire in Home Opener<\/strong> Indiana Field Hockey defeated New Hampshire 4-0 at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday afternoon. IU improves its record to 1-2 for the season.   IU found offensive power early, with second year forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo adding a point to the board early, giving the Hoosiers a 1-0 advantage over the Wildcats. She was helped by fourth year midfielder In\u00e9s Garcia Prado.  Just two minutes later, Arroyo Cabeduzo notched in another goal in the 12th minute, her third of the season, assisted by second year forward\/midfielder Molly Stutte.  The half continued to be all Hoosier as the majority of play occurred in New Hampshire territory. Agustina Gamonal contributed to the effort with a goal in the second frame to put IU up 3-0, her first goal of her collegiate career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A defensive play by second year back Lily Freeman at the 4:05 mark helped defend the cage and prevent the Wildcats from recording a shot on goal in the first half of the game.  New Hampshire (0-3) put pressure on the Hoosier defense after the break, bringing Hoosier scoring to a slow down.  In the fourth quarter, it was a back-and-forth battle, fighting for possession as New Hampshire was finally allotted its lone shot on goal. IU’s defense continued to press for control, and Stutte was able to knock-in the final goal for the home team with just 24 seconds left to play, helping it with the 4-0 victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Kayla Bayshore earned her 50th career win at IU on Friday. Bayshore has been at the helm of the Hoosiers since 2019. Indiana defense prevented New Hampshire from earning a shot on goal until late in the fourth quarter.  Stutte and Garcia Prado led the team with five shots each. Arroyo Cabezudo (3), third year forward Minjtje Hagen (2), Freeman (2), Gamonal (2), fourth year forward\/ midfielder Theresa Ricci (1), fifth year forward Karly Redman (1), first year midfielder Elise Eves (1), third year midfielder Keke Sluiter (1), second year midfielder Georgia Rottinghaus (1) and fourth year back\/midfielder Hannah Riddle also contributed to the Hoosier’s 25 total shots. IU continues the weekend at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind., hosting Central Michigan Today at noon. Six seniors will be honored during the match. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Women’s Soccer Hoosiers Score First Road Win over Ohio University <\/strong> Indiana women’s soccer got back into the win column after defeating Ohio 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers got off to an early start and never looked back, earning their first road win of the season. With the win, The Hoosiers move to 3-2-1 to close the non-conference slate. The Hoosiers opened the game quick, scoring the match’s first goal in the sixth minute. Midfielder\u00a0Paige Droner\u00a0found defender\u00a0Bella Haggerty\u00a0off a corner kick, heading the ball in the back of the net for her third goal this season. Midfielder\u00a0Jenna Chatterton\u00a0continued to add pressure, scoring the second goal of the game in the 12th<\/sup>\u00a0minute to take a 2-0 lead. Ohio later scored in the 33rd<\/sup>\u00a0minute from Jaimason Brooker. The Hoosiers would go on to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Defender\u00a0Piper Coffield\u00a0found the back of the net for Indiana to push the lead to 3-1 in the 74th<\/sup>\u00a0minute. Lillian Weller scored a penalty goal for Ohio in the 89th<\/sup>\u00a0minute but were unable to score again, securing the 3-2 win to close the non-conference schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IU led the game in shot attempts (13-8) and shots on goal (6-5). Indiana forced 12 Ohio fouls and three yellow cards. Haggerty recorded her third goal of the season. Chatterton scored her first goal this season and second of her career. Coffield recorded her seventh career goal and second of the season. Paige Droner\u00a0(3) led the Hoosiers in shot attempts. IUWS will open their Big Ten schedule this Thursday, September 10th<\/sup>, when they travel to Nebraska. The match will be broadcasted on B1G+ and will kick off at 8:05 pm EST.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Women’s Volleyball Bested in Bested in Broadway Block Party by Tennessee <\/strong> On a national stage in the Music City, the Indiana volleyball team (2-2, 0-0 B1G) couldn’t find a way to hold onto early leads in any of the three sets. 22nd-ranked Tennessee overcame deficits of at least four points in all three games as it picked up a sweep (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon at Bridgestone Arena. A combination of Tennessee outside hitter Kennedi Rogers’ 19 kills and constant service pressure from the Lady Vols made it hard to maintain rhythm in the top-25 battle. The hosts found an important service run in all three sets to pull away late on each occasion. Tennessee ended up winning the offensive battle (.245-.179) behind 32 assists from setter Caroline Kerr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second-year outside hitter\u00a0Jaidyn Jager\u00a0reached double digits for the third-straight match with a team-best 10 kills. First-year outside hitter\u00a0Sara Snowbarger\u00a0followed behind her with seven of her own. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0recorded her second double-double in as many matches (24 assists, 12 digs). IU will get a quick return to the court as it finishes up an early five-game road trip with a visit to Southern Indiana this afternoon. First serve in Evansville is set for 4 p.m. from Liberty Arena. After the game with the Screaming Eagles, IU will finally return home to Wilkinson Hall for a match with Cal Poly on September 10th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Service pressure made a big difference as Tennessee pulled away in this one. A 6-1 advantage in aces followed by a 13.0-5.0 advantage in blocks canceled out IU’s early offensive potency. As the match wore on, Tennessee found its outside hitter Kennedi Rogers who went for 19 kills on a .268 hitting percentage. Indiana finished the week with a 2-1 record against three of the top six SEC programs in this year’s conference preseason poll. Two of the three sets on Sunday afternoon finished in deuce games with the Hoosiers coming out on the losing side each time. Second-year outside hitter\u00a0Jaidyn Jager\u00a0reached double-digit kills for the 26th in her career and for the third-consecutive match. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0provided the seventh double-double of her young collegiate tenure with 24 assists and 12 digs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Athletics and JLab Announce Partnership Extension as Part of Jlab\u2019s 2026-27 College Sports Campaign<\/strong> Indiana University Athletics and JLab have announced the expansion of their successful multi-year partnership, marking JLab’s ongoing support as an official corporate partner of IU Athletics for the 2026\u201327 academic year. Building on previous seasons of collaboration across IU’s football and basketball programs, this extended alliance further deepens the brand’s footprint in Bloomington through enhanced Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) integration and cutting-edge audio technology. The extension of this agreement was secured by IU Athletics multimedia rightsholder IU Sports Properties. Princeton Indiana Native Jackie Young leads a gritty US escape in a tight 55-52 women’s World Cup win over Italy<\/strong> Princeton Indiana Native Jackie Young scored 10 points and the U.S. survived its toughest test in the women’s basketball World Cup in two decades with a 55-52 victory over Italy on Sunday. The U.S. has won 32 straight World Cup games dating back to a loss to Russia in the 2006 semifinals. Only one team had come within single digits of the Americans during this run, when Australia lost by eight points in 2010. The Americans (2-0) had to work hard for the victory, putting up the lowest point total in a preliminary-round game since 1971, when they had 51 against France. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. trailed 50-48 with 4:29 left before going on a 7-0 run. Breanna Stewart, who missed her first eight shots, scored her first basket of the game to put the Americans up 51-50. Young then hit a layup after the U.S. got an offensive foul against Italy on its next possession. The Americans got another defensive stop, and Chelsea Gray hit a jumper to make it a five-point game. Matilde Villa scored to get Italy back within three with less than a minute to go. The U.S. had a couple of chances to make it a two-possession lead but couldn’t convert. Italy (1-1) had one last chance to tie it, but Cecilia Zandalasini’s 3-pointer was off at the buzzer. Italy\u2019s 2-3 zone defense cause the U.S. fits on offense. The Americans couldn\u2019t get into any rhythm and shot 29% from the field, including going 1 for 12 from 3-point range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Americans, who led 30-24 at halftime, saw Italy go on a 11-2 run to start the third quarter and trailed 35-32 before finishing the period up 42-39. Italy, which lost to the Americans by 34 in a tournament qualifier in March, wouldn\u2019t go away and was up 50-48 in the fourth quarter before the Americans’ final push. Zandalasini scored 14 points to lead Italy, which is making its first World Cup appearance since 1994. The Italians won their first game, beating the Czech Republic, and had a loud crowd cheering for them against the U.S. Still, there were fans wearing Caitlin Clark Iowa and Fever jerseys, as well as one in Bueckers\u2019 high school jersey. In other games on Sunday, China edged the Czech Republic in overtime, Australia topped Turkey and Belgium beat Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Trojans Football Take Thriller in Turner with Career-Night from Jedidiah Galvin<\/strong> An intriguing matchup between two of the top teams in the MSFA lived up to the hype in front of a capacity crowd inside Turner Stadium, as RV Taylor flirted with history in a memorable, 38-31, win over RV Saint Xavier. TU bounced back from a frustrating season-opener that saw a streak of 33-straight games with at least 100 yards rushing come to a close in a losing effort. The Trojans got back to their ground dominance on Saturday, overpowering last year\u2019s No. 3-ranked rush defense of SXU to post the second-highest rushing total in program history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Saint Xavier (0-1) piled up 580 total yards on 86 plays, with 34 completions for 449 yards through the air, Taylor (1-1) scored a trio of decisive takeaways, sprinkled in several key defensive stands and countered with plenty of offense of its own. The Trojans turned in a vintage offensive performance with 450 of their 465 total yards coming on the ground with an average of 7.9 yards per touch over 57 carries. Taylor wore down the SXU defense with its relentless attack, with Jedidiah Galvin leading the charge with blow after blow against the visiting Cougars. After opening the game with limited success, the second-year back found his rhythm, turning in seven runs over 10 yards and finding the end zone on bursts of 15, 53, 68 and 95 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galvin finished the contest with 319 yards and four touchdowns over 18 carries, averaging an absurd 17.7 yards per rush and coming within 20 yards of TU\u2019s all-time single-game rushing record set by Mike Woods in 1988. Ethan Albert also had a busy night, taking 20 carries out of the Trojan backfield and posting 96 rushing yards, while Bodie Howell notched his first collegiate touchdown to open the scoring for TU. Grady Stanley and Reid Messer led the opportunistic Taylor defense, as Stanley posted eight tackles and one interception and Messer had seven hits, two interceptions and two more passes broken up. Two of those picks took SXU points off the board, with Messer catching an interception in the end zone and Stanley logging his inside the five-yard line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teams battled to a 10-7 score in favor of SXU early into the second quarter, before lightning forced a delay of nearly 40 minutes. After the skies had cleared of the lightning, Galvin began flashing his own brilliance, taking the first snap after the delay down the sideline for a 15-yard score and his first touchdown of the evening. A fourth down pass breakup from Preston Bannister on Saint Xavier\u2019s next drive kept the momentum on TU\u2019s side and Galvin broke loose for a 53-yard score to push the Taylor lead to 21-10. The game tilted back to the Cougars for the rest of the opening half though, as SXU had back-to-back, one-play, scoring drives of 84 and 62 yards to take a 24-21 lead to the half. A Cooper Sloan field goal from 24 yards out tied the game at 24-all on the first possession of the third, before the Taylor defense turned in another key play. This time a near sack from Seth Tolliver forced a rushed throw that Messer grabbed in the end zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just two plays later the Trojans took the lead for good, as Galvin broke a trio of tackles in a spectacular 65-yard touchdown bolt for a 31-24 lead deep into the third. Stanley\u2019s interception on the TU three-yard line ended SXU\u2019s next drive and Galvin provided one final highlight by taking a pitch from the five-yard line and sprinting down the home sideline for a 95-yard score and a 38-24 lead with 13:10 to play. Taylor\u2019s defense turned in one final key moment to preserve the victory with 1:25 on the clock. Samuel Ringer provided the potential game-saving play with a diving stop on fourth-and-one from the Taylor 42 to end the Cougars\u2019 final possession and seal the win for the Purple and Gray. RV Taylor (1-1) will look to carry its momentum onto the road when it plays at RV Saint Francis of Illinois (0-2) on September 12 at 2:00 pm (ET).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conor Daly joins Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for full IndyCar campaign in 2027<\/strong> Noblesville native Conor Daly is returning to the IndyCar grid on a full-time basis in 2027.  Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced Saturday it had signed Daly to pilot their No. 24 entry in the team’s return to full-time IndyCar competition for the first time since 2012.  Along with the driver announcement, DRR also confirmed the team will switch from Chevrolet to Honda engines following the acquisition of one of Rahal Letterman Lanigan’s three charters at the end of July.  “Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is returning to full-time competition in 2027 with Honda engines, and Conor Daly is the driver we want leading that return,” DRR CEO Derek Reinbold said in a press release. “Conor has raced for us at Indianapolis, so we know how he prepares, how he works with engineers, and how much he gets out of a car. He has shown for years that he can win the Indianapolis 500, and our job is to give him a car that lets him do it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite having over a decade of IndyCar experience, Daly has competed in just six full IndyCar seasons since his debut at the 2013 Indianapolis 500. His best finish came in 2016 when he finished second in the first of two races at Belle Isle. He scored his most recent podium in 2024 when he finished third in the first race at the Milwaukee Mile driving for Juncos Hollinger Racing. “The faith that this group has shown in me is something that makes me want to work harder than ever before to deliver,” Daly said in a press release. “We, as a team, will aim every day to make Dennis proud of the effort we put in to be competitive and continue the team\u2019s legacy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dreyer & Reinbold emphasized during a press conference at Laguna Seca that the team’s full-time return was a goal of their late founder, Dennis Reinbold, who died in June at the age of 65. Brett De Bord, DRR’s president and chief commercial officer, said the team wanted to sign Daly as its driver as quickly as it could.  “(Our) first order of business was to sign Conor,” De Bord said. “We hired Conor on his talent, his ability and really his ability to win Indy 500s, races and championships, compete at the highest level.
