After two weeks on the road the Edgewood Mustangs return home to face their archrivals the Owen Valley Patriots this evening at 7 PM at the Mustang Corral in Ellettsville. The Teams play for the annual Black and Blue Trophy which is the primary colors of the two teams which Black for Edgewood and Blue for Owen Valley. This will be 32nd time the teams have played for the annual trophy with Owen Valley leading that series 16-15. Edgewood shutout the Patriots 34-0 on September 12, 2025, Spencer and looks to keep the trophy for the third year in a row. Edgewood leads the series 22-18 in the last 40 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The schools are separated by ten miles down State Road 46 and the Monroe-Owen County line between them. Both schools always look forward to this game and no question there will be another big crowd on hand this evening. Edgewood is 1-2 and after a 29-8 win over Springs Valley in Week 1 the Mustangs have struggled the last two weeks being outscored 78-6. Edgewood was shutout at Beech Grove 36-0 in Week 2 and 42-6 last Friday at South Putnam. The Mustangs average 11.7 points on offense and give 28.7 points on defense. Head Coach Scott Fischer is 10-22 in his 4th year at Edgewood and 27-67 in 10 years as a head coach. Fischer is 2-1 against Owen Valley since he took over the program in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Owen Valley is 2-1 on the season after wins over Brown County 64-0 at home and Southmont on the road 14-9 in Week 2. The Patriots lost at home to Cloverdale 34-13 last Friday Night. Owen Valley is averaging 30.3 points per game on offense and giving up 14.3 points per game on defense. Head Coach Troy Burgess returns for his second stint at the school after coaching the Patriots from 1998-2001 and has a record of 35-10 and overall record of 123-93 in 21 years overall. Burgess is 2-2 against Edgewood as the Patriots head coach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bloomington North is on the road at 7 PM this evening when they head to Mooresville to face the Pioneers. First year head coach Andy Harding is on a two-game winning streak after a 41-40 thriller at Bedford North Lawrence in Week 2 and his first home win last Friday Night with a 46-20 win over Martinsville. The Cougars are finding their way after a 44-6 loss to City Rival Bloomington South at Home and Freshman Fisher Pugh has shined the last two weeks throwing for almost 600 yards as the Cougars are averaging 31 points on offense and giving up 34.7 points on defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mooresville is 2-1 after losing at Plainfield 27-14 on the road in the Mid-State Conference opener. The Pioneers beat Columbus East 34-21 in Week 1 at Home and on the Road at Terre Haute North 42-12 in Week 2. Head Coach Casey Gillin is 2-1 in his first year at the school and 17-9 in his third season after two seasons at Indian Creek. The Pioneers average 30 points on offense and give up 20 points on defense. Mooresville won the last meeting 28-14 on August 22, 2025, and the Pioneers lead the series 9-5 in the last 40 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bloomington South the top ranked team in Class 5A host the Muncie Central Bearcats in the first meeting between the two schools at 7:30 PM at Fred Huff Memorial Field on the Southside of Bloomington. The Bearcats make the two-hour trip to Bloomington with a 2-1 record. Muncie Central beat Delta 23-22 in week 1 and New Castle on the road last Friday Night 49-14 and lost 24-7 at Yorktown in week 2. The Bearcats are averaging 26.3 points on offense and giving 20 points on defense. Head Coach Kyle Buresh is 8-6 in his second year at the school and 53-20 in his seventh year overall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Panthers are 3-0 and are rolling after a 77-0 thumping of Terre Haute North at home last Friday Night. The Panthers beat Bloomington North 44-6 in week 1 and Martinsville 48-14 in week 2 in road wins and have outscored their opponents 169-20 through the first three game. The Panthers are averaging 56.3 points on offense and giving up 6.7 points on defense. This is the first game that Bloomington South is playing this season that is not a normally scheduled game. Conference Indiana dissolved after 2025-26 school year, and the Panthers are independent for the 2026-27 school before they head to the Hoosier Hills Conference for the 2027-28 school year. The Panthers had to fill in their schedule and Muncie Central was one of the teams that had opening and was able to fill the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
