Indiana University Women’s Volleyball Hosts the Indiana Invitational <\/strong> For the first time in the regular season, fans will get the chance to watch the 21st-ranked Indiana volleyball team (3-2, 0-0 B1G) at Wilkinson Hall. After five games in 10 days across four different cities, the Hoosiers make the journey home for the Indiana Invitational tonight and tomorrow evening.\u00a0A grueling beginning to the season was intentional under ninth-year head coach Steve Aird to get his team accustomed to playing good teams in big environments. Nothing will change as his squad prepares to play a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. Cal Poly (Thursday) and Eastern Illinois (Friday) will come to Bloomington for a round-robin event this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As IU continues to work out its offensive lineup, third-year Ella Boersema continues to shine in any position she’s asked to play. The Indiana native provided 21 kills on the right side in a win over No. 12 Texas A&M and flipped back to the middle to score 16 kills in Monday’s victory over Southern Indiana. She’s second on the team with 3.26 kills per set and is hitting a team-best .357 on the year.\u00a0Team success on the offensive side of things continues to run through second-year setter Teodora Krickovic. She’s averaging 9.79 assists per set and 1.89 digs per set. In addition to that, she’s tapped in 17 kills including a season-best seven against No. 12 Texas A&M. IU continues to bolster its hitting percentage after a tough start to the year.\u00a0Both of IU’s games this weekend will start at 7 p.m. Cal Poly will take the court against IU this evening while Eastern Illinois will wrap up the invitational on Friday Night The two opposing teams will play a neutral site game as well on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Win Would against Cal Poly would\u00a0be the second win of the year against a team that made last year’s regional semifinals. It would also improve IU to 34-9 in the last four years at Wilkinson Hall. A win against Eastern Illinois would be the 10th win in program history against Eastern Illinois and the second of the year against an OVC program. A win over both teams would put the Hoosiers at five wins during the early portion of the season and move then to 35-9 at Wilkinson Hall since 2023. Indiana to play first two home games this year against Cal Poly and Eastern Illinois. IU has finished .500 or better in each of the last four seasons – the program has won 80 games since 2022. Since the beginning of 2023, the Hoosiers are 33-9 inside the friendly confines of Wilkinson Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dating back to 2023, the Hoosiers have won\u00a023-consecutive\u00a0matches against unranked opponents at Wilkinson Hall. That includes a run of\u00a0nine\u00a0non-conference teams in that same stretch. Wins over Cal Poly and Eastern Illinois would improve IU to\u00a035-9\u00a0at Wilkinson Hall since the 2023 season. Third-year middle blocker\u00a0Ella Boersema\u00a0averaged\u00a03.44\u00a0kills per set in four games last week. That included\u00a021\u00a0kills as an opposite hitter against No. 12 Texas A&M and\u00a016\u00a0as a middle blocker against Southern Indiana. She hit\u00a0.441\u00a0over that stretch of play for the Hoosiers. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0has become a much bigger offensive threat during her second college campaign. Over the last two years, IU is\u00a04-0\u00a0when she records at least\u00a0five\u00a0kills in a match. That includes games against No. 12 Texas A&M (7) and Southern Indiana (5) this season.

Between Cal Poly (13) and Indiana (4), there will be\u00a017\u00a0kids from the state of California involved in Thursday’s match in Bloomington. Both of each team’s leading scorers –\u00a0Jaidyn Jager, Indiana (3.42 kills per set) and Kendall Beshear, Cal Poly (3.44 kills per set) – are from the Golden State. In win over Southern Indiana, middle blockers\u00a0Ella Boersema\u00a0(16) and\u00a0Victoria Gray\u00a0(11) combined for\u00a027\u00a0kills. It was the first time that IU had a pair of middle blockers each reach double figures in the same match since 2023 (at Northwestern – Oct. 29, 2023, Rammelsberg – 15, Kjolhede – 10).

Third-year opposite hitter\u00a0Avery Daum\u00a0made her first start on the right side with\u00a0seven\u00a0kills and\u00a0four\u00a0blocks against Southern Indiana. She has been a fantastic practice player for the Hoosiers and finally got her chance to shine. All five primary attackers had at least\u00a0seven\u00a0kills in the win. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0is closing in on\u00a01,500\u00a0career assists during her time in Bloomington. She would only be the\u00a012th\u00a0setter in program history to hit that plateau. The Serbian has\u00a01,398\u00a0over the last two years and is averaging\u00a010.59\u00a0assists per set in her career. Since the 2022 campaign (four-plus years), Indiana has racked up\u00a080\u00a0wins under head coach\u00a0Steve Aird. That includes at least\u00a015\u00a0wins in each full season during that stretch. IU will be looking to reach that plateau again for the\u00a0fifth-straight\u00a0year.

(RV) Cal Poly (3-2, 0-0 Big West)- After a fantastic season in 2025, Cal Poly’s expectations remain high this year. That’s reflected in a non-conference schedule that sees them play Texas A&M, Indiana, Arizona State and Stanford. A veteran group is led by outside hitters Kendal Beshear (3.44 kills per set) and Emma Fredrick (3.22 kills per set). Setter Alexis Haury is familiar with the Hoosiers, having been the starting setter for Washington in last year’s match at Wilkinson Hall. She averages 10.39 assists per set for an offense that hits .222 in the first two weeks of the year. The Mustangs offer up 2.06 blocks per set as well. Indiana and Cal Poly have never played in volleyball. However, the two schools did recently play in men’s soccer with the Hoosiers coming out on top. The last school from the Big West that IU played in volleyball was against Long Beach State in 2023.

Eastern Illinois (1-5, 0-0 OVC)-\u00a0The Panthers have embarked on a challenging schedule of their own. They have dropped five-straight games with defeats to Wright State, Dayton, BYU, Long Beach State and Wyoming. Head coach Ryan Millar is one of the best middle blockers to ever play for the U.S. Men’s National team. He was a three-time Olympian for the Americans. Katie Kopshever, a veteran pin attacker from Indiana, is the team’s leading scorer with 3.52 kills per set. Five other players have between 11 and 37 kills this year. Setter Alanys Nieves took over the reins of the offense against Wyoming with 40 helpers. The Panthers have just 30 total blocks on the year. These two sides have played just twice since 1985 but played nearly every season before that. IU leads the all-time series 9-2 with a win in the most recent contest in 2011. The first volleyball match in program history (1975) actually came against Eastern Illinois and resulted in a win for the Hoosiers. In 1981, the first year that women’s volleyball was an NCAA sanctioned sport, IU beat Eastern Illinois again<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Women’s Soccer Travels to Nebraska for the Big Ten Opener <\/strong> Indiana women’s soccer opens conference play on the road as they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face Nebraska. The match is set for an 8 pm EST start this evening. The Hoosiers look to open conference play and earn back-to-back\u00a0wins on the road against the Cornhuskers. Nebraska opens conference play with their fifth home match of the season with a 2-1-3 record. They are led by Carson Bohonek and Nathalie Lewis with two goals apiece. The Cornhuskers currently hold wins over Louisville, and Omaha in their last matchup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoosiers closed their nonconference schedule last Sunday with the road win at Ohio. Indiana opened the match quickly finding a corner kick opportunity in the sixth minute. midfielder\u00a0Paige Droner\u00a0found defender\u00a0Bella Haggerty\u00a0for the header to score the matches first goal. Haggerty added her first assists of the season as she crossed the ball to midfielder\u00a0Jenna Chatterton\u00a0for the goal. She would give the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute of action. Ohio found the net in the 33rd minute to head into halftime trailing 2-1. Emma Payton\u00a0saw her first game action of the season to open the second half. She recorded back-to-back saves in the 71st minute to keep the match at 2-1. Defender\u00a0Piper Coffield\u00a0found the back of the net off a free kick opportunity to push the lead to 3-1. Ohio earned a penalty kick opportunity late in the match to finish the game with a 3-2 Hoosier win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella Haggerty\u00a0leads all Hoosiers with three goals scored this season.\u00a0Maggie Ledwith,\u00a0Kennedy Neighbors, and\u00a0Piper Coffield\u00a0tie with two goals apiece, followed by\u00a0Aleyna Quinn\u00a0and\u00a0Jenna Chatterton\u00a0with one goal each. Nine Hoosiers have recorded an assist this season, led by Ledwith with two. Haggerty and Droner recorded assists in the previous match for the Hoosiers. Neighbors, Chatterton, Ehret, Falzarano, Hamm, and Stanley also have assists recorded this season. Haggerty and Ledwith lead the Hoosiers in total points with seven and six, respectively. Neighbors follows behind with five along with Coffield, Chatterton, and Quinn with four, three and two, respectively.\u00a0Paige Droner,\u00a0Emma Ehret,\u00a0Amaya Falzarano,\u00a0Grace Hamm, and\u00a0Ella Stanley\u00a0also have one point apiece for the Hoosiers. 18 Hoosiers have recorded a shot this season. Ledwith leads the way with 15 shot attempts, followed by Neighbors and Hamm with nine and eight, respectively. Coffield and Chatterton have added six apiece along with Haggerty, Droner, and Graham who have five each.
IUWS will return home this weekend as they continue their early conference slate. The Hoosiers will face their first ranked opponent of the season as they host No. 6 Ohio State at Bill Armstrong Stadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Field Hockey Hits the Road to take on Cornell and Ball State <\/strong> \u00a0Indiana Field Hockey is back on the road to face Cornell on Friday, Sep.11 in a neutral site match in Columbus, Ohio, at Buckeye Varsity Field before coming back to Indiana for a game against in-state foe Ball State in Muncie, Ind. at Briner Sports Complex. The contest on Friday will start at 1 p.m., with Sunday’s match to start at 11 a.m.\u00a0 The Hoosiers will look to secure their first road win of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana finished the weekend undefeated, shutting out both New Hampshire and Central Michigan at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind.\u00a0 The Hoosiers started the weekend in a contest against New Hampshire on Friday, where they went up 2-0 in the first quarter of the match.\u00a0Celia Arroyo Cabezudo\u00a0scored both early points.\u00a0Agustina Gamonal\u00a0followed with the first goal of her collegiate career.\u00a0Molly Stutte\u00a0knocked in the final goal for IU.
On senior day, Arroyo Cabezudo again found an early opportunity to score against Central Michigan.\u00a0Mijntje Hagen\u00a0added the second first half goal. \u00a0Despite a quiet period in the third,\u00a0Molly Stutte\u00a0added two goals in the fourth quarter and In\u00e9s Garcia Prado followed to score the last goal, making the final score 5-0.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her eighth year at the helm of Indiana Field Hockey, Coach\u00a0Kayla Bashore\u00a0recorded her 50th win at IU on Friday against New Hampshire. In her first year (2019), the Hoosiers beat No.23 Michigan State on the road, earning her first ranked win as head coach. During the 2021 season, she led IU to its first 10-win season since 2012, including 7 shut-out victories (a single-season program record). \u00a0 Following the success in 2021, the team defeated defending Big Ten Tournament champion and then ranked No. 21 Rutgers, 2-0 in 2022. In 2023, the team continued to make strides under her development with multiple players earning post-season awards.\u00a0 2024 saw another nine-win season and three ranked wins. Continuing the development of the team, they continued to make strides in 2025, going 9-9 and two ranked conference wins.\u00a0 Since 2021, the team has had four 9+ win seasons in a row, which is the most since 2014-15.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In both contests against New Hampshire and Central Michigan, IU didn’t allow a single shot on goal for the opposing team until the fourth quarter. Six players were honored during senior day, including\u00a0Ava Winner,\u00a0Karly Redman,\u00a0Javi Baeza,\u00a0Theresa Ricci,\u00a0Hannah Riddle\u00a0and In\u00e9s Garcia Prado.\u00a0 Coach Kayla Bayshore earned her 50th career win at IU on Friday. Bayshore has been at the helm of the Hoosiers since 2019. Indiana totaled over 20 shots on both Friday and Sunday, getting 25 total shots against the Wildcats (14 SOG) and 28 shots against Central Michigan (18 SOG). It now has three games in a row with over 55% of shots being on goal. IU starts its\u00a0home record undefeated. In the 2025 season, it ended its home campaign 6-4, with the last two matches being Hoosier victories ( No.18 Ohio State, Michigan State)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two players had back-to-back goals in both games, with\u00a0Celia Arroyo Cabezudo\u00a0recording her pair on Friday in the first quarter and\u00a0Molly Stutte\u00a0finishing the game on Sunday with a pair in the fourth.\u00a0 Jesse Mauro,\u00a0Morgan Qualls\u00a0and\u00a0Elise Eves\u00a0made their first appearance for the 2026 season over the weekend. Both Qualls and Eves hit the field against New Hampshire and Central Michigan and Mauro played for the first time against Central Michigan.\u00a0 Arroyo Cabezudo leads the Hoosiers in total goals, knocking in a total of four. Stutte follows close behind with three, and four Hoosiers have totaled one a piece.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoosiers will hit the road on Friday to take on the Cornell Big Red in a neutral site match at Buckeye Varsity Field in Columbus, Ohio at 1 p.m. \u00a0 Cornell is sitting at 1-2 on the season after a pair of road losses against Bucknell (3-1) on Sunday and Lafayette College (2-1) on Monday. The Big Red is seeking their first ever win against a Big Ten team.\u00a0 Cornell travels from Ithaca, New York to play IU for the first time. The Hoosiers currently sit at 1-0 against Ivy League opponents, defeating Penn in 2023.\u00a0 On Sunday, IU will face Ball State for an in-state match up in Muncie, Ind. at Briner Sports Complex. The game is set to start at 11 a.m. The Cardinals are 2-2 on the season, most recently splitting their weekend on the road in Iowa, defeating Lehigh (5-4) on Saturday and dropping the contest against Iowa (0-8). Indiana holds the 17-5 advantage over the Cardinals all-time. On Aug.14, the pair met for an exhibition game in Muncie, Ind.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three Indiana University Hoosiers Feature in U.S. Women’s Swimming Junior National Team<\/strong> Three Indiana women’s swimming freshmen feature in the 2026-27 U.S. National Team, USA Swimming announced this week. First-year Hoosiers Paige Downey (Gilbert, Ariz.), Kayla Han (La Mirada, Calif.) and Lylah Theriac (Mooresville, Ind.) are part of the 97-member team. Han and Downey, two distance freestylers, rank Nos. 3 and 18 in SwimSwam’s Class of ’26 recruit rankings. A multi-stroke swimmer, Theriac featured in the publication’s “Best of the Rest” honorees. The trio joins 10 Hoosiers that made the senior national team earlier this month:\u00a0Alexei Avakov,\u00a0Josh Bey,\u00a0Finn Brooks,\u00a0Noah Cakir, American record holder\u00a0Van Mathias,\u00a0Owen McDonald\u00a0and\u00a0Aaron Shackell, while the women’s team lists\u00a0Liberty Clark,\u00a0Anna Peplowski\u00a0and\u00a0Alex Shackell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LIV Golf files for bankruptcy with over $500 million in debt<\/strong> LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday in New Jersey with more than $500 million in debt, part of its goal to revive the league without Saudi funding. The move was widely expected after the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia abruptly ended its financial support this year. The final event was last month in Indiana. Four vendors already have filed lawsuits because they have not been paid. LIV said it has agreed to a restructuring plan with BC Partners as the primary source of its capital. \u201cThis process gives us the structure and time to pursue a landmark transaction and begin the next chapter of LIV Golf,\u201d CEO Scott O\u2019Neil said in a news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O\u2019Neil has said \u201cLIV Golf 2.0\u201d would feature players as majority owners in a reduced schedule. In a letter to LIV Golf fans, O\u2019Neil said the new look would expand the size of the field from 57 to 75 players and introduce a 54-hole cut for the first time. There also would be Monday qualifiers. He said the team concept would be built around nationalities and that LIV would continue to tap some of its more successful markets in Australia, South Africa and Asia. Still, the new version would be a shell of what LIV promised when it launched in June 2022 after paying nine-figure signing bonuses to lure away top names from the PGA Tour. The excessive spending topped more than $5 billion before PIF said in April it was pulling the plug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still to be determined is the future of the biggest stars still with LIV, most notably Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. Rahm is playing the Irish Open this week and told BBC Northern Ireland: \u201cI still have a contract with LIV 1.0 that I\u2019m more than willing to fulfill. Like I said, time will tell.\u201d Rahm, DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith were the leading four creditors listed in the filing. Of the top 30 creditors LIV listed, 14 were players. The filing listed only the \u201cunsecured claim\u201d \u2014 Rahm led the list at nearly $7.5 million \u2014 and not the full amount owed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LIV listed between $100 million and $500 million in estimated assets, and $500 million and $1 billion in liabilities. The state of Louisiana is listed among the largest creditors at $1,220,000. LIV Golf postponed its event in Louisiana shortly after PIF announced it was ending its support. The Michigan event also was canceled, with the team championship merged into the final event in Indiana. Chapter 11 is commonly known as reorganization bankruptcy and generally allows the debtor to continue to operate the business, even borrowing new money under court approval. LIV Golf said the PIF has agreed to provide $49.6 million in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing through the DIP credit agreement, subject to the court\u2019s approval. BC Partners L.P. \u2014 the credit business of UK-based BC Partners \u2014 and other minority investors that might emerge would provide the exit financing as LIV tries to keep going. LIV said it intends to emerge from bankruptcy and start its new version as early as 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow it is time to enter the next phase of LIV Golf,\u201d O\u2019Neil said in his letter. \u201cToday, we took an important step forward to get there. LIV Golf has entered a court-supervised restructuring process that provides us with the time and framework to address previous financial obligations and complete a transaction that will make the League\u2019s next phase a reality. \u201cPut simply, this process is designed to build a stronger and more sustainable future for LIV Golf.\u201d But so much depends on who stays. The PGA Tour has banned players for one year from their most recent LIV Golf appearance. Brooks Koepka was the first LIV player to return under penalty \u2014 a $5 million payment to charity, no equity grants for five years, no access to bonus money the year he returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp offered the same deal to Rahm, DeChambeau and Smith with a tight deadline to accept. None did, and three months later as the U.S.-Iran war took root, PIF pulled its funding and sent LIV Golf into a spiral. Rolapp has not been inclined to discuss any paths back while players are under contract. O\u2019Neil said LIV Golf\u2019s intention was to \u201ccomplete, not compete,\u201d a phrase that rankled more stable tours because of the disruption LIV Golf created under former CEO Greg Norman who felt players should be able to compete on any tour, while be required to play a full schedule on LIV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Women’s Golfer Eleanor Schuitema Ties for First to Open Fall Season<\/strong> A new-look lineup for the No. 20 Taylor women\u2019s golf team was led by a familiar face at the 54-hole Indiana Wesleyan Wildcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, as Eleanor Schuitema tied for first to pace the Trojans. Schuitema fired rounds of 72, 76 and a career-best 69 to finish in a tie for first at 217, marking the fifth time in her collegiate career that the junior had topped the individual leaderboard. Schuitema proceeded to play two rounds in a head-to-head playoff with SCAD Savannah\u2019s Yunyi Luo, before Luo claimed the title with a second-hole birdie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presley White and Sophia Stanton impressed for TU in their collegiate debuts, as the freshmen finished in sixth and 14th respectively to join Schuitema near the top of the leaderboard. White carded rounds of 76, 73, 76 to end at 225, and Stanton shot 77, 74, 76 to end at 227. The trio\u2019s strong performances led No. 20 Taylor to a three-round score of 919, which put the Trojans back of the No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 14 teams in the latest NAIA Top-25 Poll. TU finished ahead of the No. 15 and No. 24 teams. No. 20 Taylor\u2019s next outing is set for September 14 and 15 at the Pikeville Collegiate in Prestonburg, Kentucky. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Men\u2019s Golf Opens Fall with Runner-Up Finish<\/strong> The Taylor men\u2019s golf team opened its fall season with a strong second-place showing at the Indiana Wesleyan Fall invitational. The Trojans took the lead into Tuesday\u2019s final round, before No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan overtook them for the title. Tayor played well throughout, shooting team scores of 290, 289 and 293 over the 54-hole tournament. Despite ending 10 shots back of the title, the unranked Trojans finished 13 strokes up on No. 11 Marian in the team standings and took second-of-nine. Freshman Hayden Fox led five Trojans in the top-15, taking fifth with a score of 215 and rounds of 75, 69 and 71. Porter Dick and Aaron Fulda followed in seventh and 10th with scores of 216 and 218. Dick and Fulda each carded their best scores in the first round, with sub-par totals of 70 and 71. Davis Formsma and Tanner Conklin rounded out TU\u2019s top-five in a tie for 14th at 220. Taylor will look to build on the strong opening when it continues its fall season on September 14 and 15 at the Pikeville Collegiate in Prestonburg, Kentucky.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
