Indiana University Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Cal Poly in Home Opener  <\/strong> From the jump, you could tell it felt good to be home. The 21st-ranked Indiana volleyball team (4-2, 0-0 B1G) cruised early and held on late to earn a sweep (25-11, 25-16, 28-26) of Cal Poly (3-3, 0-0 Big West) on Thursday evening at Wilkinson Hall. The victory was the 24th-consecutive victory over an unranked opponent on IU’s home floor. IU’s offense needed a statement night and its attackers delivered. The Hoosiers hit .378 (41-10-82) over three games including a blistering .700 in the opening frame. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager had 14 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and finished one dig (9) shy of a double-double. Second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray came alive late with nine kills on a .538 clip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoosiers put pressure on Cal Poly’s passers from the opening serve. It led to a team advantage in aces (8-2), digs (28-26) and blocks (11.0-4.0). Fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry had her best night in an IU uniform with six kills and seven blocks. Her and third-year opposite hitter Ella Boersema (5-0-12) were both errorless on 21 combined attempts. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic got all of her attackers involved in the team offensive effort. All five of them had at least five kills. It’s the ninth time in the last two years that IU has hit .375 or better in a match. Krickovic finished the evening with 34 assists, five digs, four blocks, two aces and two kills. IU will look to complete the home weekend sweep this evening as Eastern Illinois visits Wilkinson Hall to wrap up this year’s Indiana Invitational. A win against the Panthers would ensure that IU starts with a record of at least 5-2 through seven games for the third-consecutive year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Execution of the scouting report and a dominant first frame set the tone for Thursday’s victory. All five primary attackers had at least five kills for IU with second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager (14) and second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray (9) combining for 23. Being able to score your own points is the key to winning big games. On top of 41 kills in three sets, the Hoosiers added eight aces and 11 blocks. It’s the first time since last year’s NCAA second round win over Colorado that IU has gone for 10-or-more blocks in a match that lasts only three sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IU has now won six-straight home openers and eight of nine under head coach Steve Aird. It’s the second win of the year in three tries against a team that advanced to last year’s NCAA regional semifinals. IU also knocked off defending national champions Texas A&M last week. IU’s offense hit at a remarkable .700 clip in the first set of Thursday’s victory over Cal Poly. The Hoosiers had 14 kills and committed zero errors on 20 attacks. It’s the highest percentage that IU has hit in a single set since a game two victory over Maryland (.700 \u2013 Nov. 25, 2022) four years ago. The Hoosiers held on to hit .378 for the match with 41 kills in three sets. It’s the ninth time in the last two seasons (seventh time at Wilkinson Hall) that IU has hit over .375 a match. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager contributed double-digit kills (14) for the fifth-consecutive match. Head coach Steve Aird’s group continues to love playing on the home court at Wilkinson Hall. Over the last five seasons, IU is 41-15 on its home court. The program has now stretched its home winning streak against unranked opponents to 24-consecutive matches, a run that dates back to 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Women’s Soccer beats Nebraska in the Big Ten Opener <\/strong> Indiana women’s soccer earns their first conference win of the season as they defeat Nebraska 1-0 on the road Thursday evening. In what was a back and forth game, the Hoosiers found the back of the net late to defeat the Cornhuskers in the conference opener. With the win, Indiana holds a 4-2-1 overall record and sit 1-0 in conference play. The two teams played a back and forth match through the first half with Nebraska leading in shot attempts 7-6. The Hoosier defense held strong with goalkeeper Dani Jacobson recording three saves to keep the game tied at zero heading into the break. Midfielder Maggie Ledwith had an early shot attempt that bounced off the crossbar, creating the first scoring threat of the match in the 47th<\/sup> minute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game continued back and forth before the Hoosiers earned a run out down the field Defender Haden Vlcek played to defender Grace Hamm, finding Ledwith for the games lone goal in the 89th<\/sup> minute of play. The Cornhuskers had no answer late to give Indiana their first ever win at Hibner Field. IU lead the game in shot attempts (12-11). The Indiana defense held Nebraska to only three shots on goal. Indiana forced 11 Nebraska fouls. This is the first road win for Indiana against Nebraska all-time. This is the first Hoosier shutout of the season. Vlcek and Hamm recorded an assist each. IU returns home this Sunday, September 13th<\/sup>, as they play host to No. 6 Ohio State. The match will take place at Bill Armstrong Stadium starting at 1 pm EST.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No. 5 Indiana University Men’s Soccer Opens Big Ten Play at Michigan<\/strong> The unbeaten, No. 5-ranked Indiana men’s soccer team (5-1-0, 0-0-0 B1G) opens Big Ten Conference play at Michigan (2-1-1, 0-0-0 B1G) Tonight inside the U-M Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the match on the B1G+ digital platform. The 2026 Big Ten regular season title hunt promises another exciting run, as six teams in the conference rank within the top 11 of this week’s United Soccer Coaches poll. Indiana is one of three teams within the top 5. Through six matches, IU has won five games (5-0-1), scored 13 goals (2.2 per game) and held opponents to three goals (0.50 goals against average). The Hoosiers have yet to concede multiple goals in a match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourteen different Hoosiers have contributed to Indiana’s 13 goals this season. Transfer Oliver Moller-Jensen leads the production with five goals, two assists and 12 points, scoring goals in each of IU’s last two matches. Defender and captain Alex Barger leads in the assists category with three. Indiana is the Big Ten’s winningest program in conference play, with 156 victories in league games. Penn State ranks No. 2 with 111. IU has won over half \u2013 19 of 35 \u2013 of the available regular season titles. When it comes to winning in the Big Ten, IU head coach Todd Yeagley and his father, Jerry Yeagley, share the title of “all-time winningest” \u2013 Todd by No. of victories (76), his father by percentage (.920). The senior Coach Yeagley also owns the record for number of Big Ten regular season titles (10), followed by his son (6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michigan has won two of its four matches this season, those victories coming against Niagara (3-1) and SIUE (3-2). The Wolverines are coming off Sunday’s defeat to Notre Dame (2-1), a common opponent with Indiana \u2013 IU beat the Fighting Irish, 3-1, in its season opener. Senior Grayson Elmquist leads Michigan with three goals and seven points this season. Elmquist scored the winning goal for U-M in last year’s meeting at IU.  Head coach Chaka Daley leads Michigan in his 15th season with the program, owning a 118-96-53 record during his time in Ann Arbor. Daley has a 208-207-80 career record over 27 seasons as a head coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana has dominated the all-time series with Michigan, winning 25 of 36 meetings. The Hoosiers handled U-M during their last visit to Ann Arbor in 2024, a 5-0 win \u2013 at that point, IU’s largest margin of victory against a Big Ten opponent since 2017. Current Hoosier Breckin Minzey scored his first-career goal, heading in a cross for the second score. However, Michigan has won the last two matches in the series. The Wolverines got their revenge in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament, winning 1-0 on neutral ground. U-M handed the Hoosiers their lone conference home loss of 2025, winning 3-2 in a back-and-forth affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Women’s Cross Country Runner Katy Zang Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week <\/strong> The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women\u2019s Cross Country weekly awards winner for competitions that occurred between Sept. 4-Sept. 9.    Athlete of the Week-Ali Weimer, Minnesota-Fifth Year\u2013 Saint Michael, Minn. \u2013 Saint Michael-Albertville High School \u2013 Major: Sports Management. Won the Cyclone Preview individual title with a 6K time of 16:15.3. This time marked almost a minute less than her previous personal best. Minnesota defeated the likes of Missouri, Nebraska, Drake and Iowa State to win the team title. Last Minnesota Athlete of the Week: Taylor Isabel (Sept. 24, 2025) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman of the Week-Katy Zang, Indiana-Freshman \u2013 Orient, Ohio \u2013 Teays Valley \u2013 Major: Undecided. This marks Indiana\u2019s first Freshman of the Week award. Won her first collegiate race at the Sam Bell Invitational with a 4K time of 12:36.2. Set a Sam Bell course record. Finished nearly a full minute ahead of second place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

US women storm past Hungary 108-56 to reach FIBA World Cup Semifinals<\/strong> Napheesa Collier scored 19 points and\u00a0the U.S. routed Hungary\u00a0108-56 to advance to the semifinals of the\u00a0women’s FIBA World Cup\u00a0on Thursday. The U.S. will play the winner of the Spain-Australia game on Saturday in the medal round. France beat China and host Germany topped Belgium in the other quarterfinal matchups. The Americans have now won 34 consecutive games in the tournament dating to a loss to Russia in the 2006 World Cup semifinals. The U.S. has made every medal round since 1983 when the format changed to have medal rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a record-breaking performance for the U.S. The 108 points was the most by any team ever in a quarterfinal. The U.S. had 31 assists, again the most in this round. \u201cWhen that ball is moving, we want to get the best possible shot,\u201d said Kahleah Copper, who had 10 points. \u201cWe want to make sure everybody gets involved. Everyone here on this roster, we know what they\u2019re doing on their respective (WNBA) teams. But you come here, you sacrifice a little bit of that.\u201d Copper said the players were always looking to turn good scoring opportunities into great ones. The Americans did just that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. was off and running early against Hungary, jumping out to a 36-12 lead after the first quarter. The Americans were constantly pounding the ball inside and converting turnovers into easy layups.\u00a0Caitlin Clark <\/a>and Angel Reese\u00a0showed their growing chemistry on the court, finishing the quarter with a nifty pick and roll just before the buzzer. Collier had 10 points in the first 10 minutes. The offense was sizzling early on as the Americans hit 20 of their first 26 shots (77%), including five of six 3-point attempts to race to a 50-18 lead with 6 minutes left in the first half. The Americans led 59-30 at the break \u2014 the highest scoring first half in team history in a knockout game at the event according to FIBA. The Americans got a little scare when Sonia Citron had to leave in the third quarter when she was hit in the nose by a Hungary player’s hand by accident. Citron returned to start the fourth quarter. Clark finished with 10 points and nine assists, just missing out on her second double-double of the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. was also solid on defense. They contained Hungary’s top scorer Dorka Juhasz, who plays for the Minnesota Lynx. She came into the game averaging 15.3 points and 11 rebounds in the tournament. She missed her first seven shots and didn’t get her first basket until 2:26 was left in the half. She finished the game with two points on 1 of 12 shooting. Hungary came away with its best finish ever in the World Cup by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. Hungary was fifth in the 1957 tournament but back then it was a round robin with no medal rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indianapolis Indians announce 2027 schedule<\/strong> The\u00a0Indianapolis Indians\u00a0released their\u00a02027 schedule Thursday.\u00a0 The Indians will kick off their 125th season with a three-game weekend series starting Friday, March 26 at the Toledo Mud Hens. The team will then return home to Victory Field on Tuesday, April 6 to open a six-game set against the Iowa Cubs.\u00a0 The Indians will play a total of 75 home games with 12 in April,\u00a0<\/strong>13 in May, 13 in June, 13 in July, 13 in August and 11 in September. The team will play at home on\u00a0<\/strong>Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.\u00a0 This year, Victory Field will have new seats for fans as well as new home plate premium seating.\u00a0 There will be 270 premium seats behind home plate that will be installed in lower bowl sections 111-113 available in full-, half- and quarter-season package plans, officials said. Fans are able to request information for the new premium seating options\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0or by calling the Victory Field Box Office at (317) 269-3545.
