Indiana University Athletics Announces New Water Protocols and Policies for Today’s Football Game Against Howard<\/strong> Indiana University Athletics has implemented a series of game-specific policies for fans attending Saturday’s IU Football Noon matchup against Howard at Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium. Sealed Water Bottles: Fans are permitted to bring one sealed, clear, non-glass water bottle into the stadium. The safety seal must be unbroken upon entry. Refillable Containers: Spectators may bring one empty, refillable non-glass water container. IU Athletics has doubled the number of free, multi-unit water stations compared to Week 1, with multiple stations now located on both the east and west concourses. Cooling Stations: Misting stations will be positioned throughout the Memorial Stadium concourse to help fans stay cool. Concession Options: Bottled water remains available for purchase at stadium concession locations. First Aid and Assistance: First-aid stations are located on the east and west concourses. Fans requiring assistance can contact 812-369-MYIU (6948) or dial 911 in the event of an emergency. Attendees are strongly encouraged to drink plenty of water before, during, and after the game. Game-day weather is forecasted to be partly cloudy and warm, reaching a high of 85 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No. 5 Indiana\u2019s Men’s Soccer Acrobatics Earn Big Ten Road Win<\/strong> Stephane Njike’s\u00a0first goal as a Hoosier was the difference in No. 5-ranked Indiana soccer’s (6-0-1, 1-0-0 B1G) Big Ten opener, as the Hoosier men\u00a0defeated Michigan (2-2-1, 0-1-0 B1G) 1-0 Friday night in Ann Arbor. The third-year forward performed his signature backflip celebration after giving Indiana the lead in the 65th minute at the U-M Soccer Stadium. IU goalkeeper\u00a0Michal Mroz\u00a0performed his own acrobatics minutes later, saving a free kick headed for the top corner. The Hoosiers held strong in the final 20 minutes to complete a professional performance and claim three points in the Big Ten table. Indiana remains unbeaten through seven matches with six victories and four cleans sheets. Friday’s result marks IU’s first road win this season in two tries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 26th Minute Njike was denied early by the Michigan goalkeeper. The Indiana forward cut inside from the left, made a man miss and fired to the back post, but U-M’s Alen Bean pushed it away with a diving effort. In the 63rd minute Oliver Moller-Jensen\u00a0had a chance to finish on an open goal, but two Michigan defenders sandwiched the Hoosier forward just in time to deflect the shot. \u00a0Two Minutes Later Njike ripped the ball off a Michigan player, dribbled toward the box and past another Michigan man, ripped a grasscutter from 25 yards into the side netting, performed a handspring and then one, two, three, four, five backflips before enjoying a mosh pit in the corner with his teammates <\/em><\/strong>to give Indiana a 1-0 lead and the game winner. In the 68th Minute Indiana gave away a free kick 30 yards out. As Joao Paulo Ramos’ shot bent toward the top corner, Mroz leapt and pushed it over the bar with his left hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana improved to 26-6-5 in the all-time series with Michigan, snapping a two-game skid. Njike, a Maryland transfer, scored his sixth-career goal and fifth game-winning goal in Big Ten Conference play. \u00a0 IU captured its fourth clean sheet in seven matches. The Hoosiers have held opponents to three goals (0.43 goals against average), 56 shots (8.00 per game) and 17 shots on goal (2.43 per game). Indiana has a week to prepare for its Big Ten home opener next Friday (Sept. 18), hosting reigning national champion Washington at Bill Armstrong Stadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Volleyball Sweeps Eastern Illinois <\/strong> A great all-around effort saw the Indiana volleyball team (5-2, 0-0 B1G) make quick work of Eastern Illinois (1-7, 0-0 OVC) to close out the weekend’s action at Wilkinson Hall. The Hoosiers hit .391 in a straight-set victory (25-16, 25-18, 25-13) on Friday evening in the final game of the Indiana Invitational. It extended IU’s home winning streak against unranked opponents to 25-straight games. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0guided the Hoosiers to a balanced offensive effort in the win. All five primary attackers had at least six kills, led by 14 (.429 hitting percentage) from second-year outside hitter\u00a0Jaidyn Jager. Third-year opposite hitter\u00a0Ella Boersema\u00a0had eight kills and just one attacking error. IU’s .391 team hitting percentage is the highest in a single match since a win over Rutgers (.455 \u2013 Nov. 20, 2025) last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the second-straight night, IU scored its points in multiple fashions. 63 of its 75 points were earned by the team itself. The Hoosiers had 46 kills and added eight aces and nine total blocks. Six different players had at least one ace with Jager and fifth-year middle blocker\u00a0Kiki Granberry\u00a0each tallying two. Boersema and Granberry both had a hand in a team-high five blocks. IU starts the year at least 5-2 for the third-consecutive season after Friday’s victory. Three of those wins (Texas A&M, Cal Poly and Eastern Illinois) are against programs that made the NCAA Tournament last season. A full weekend off will get the team rested before heading to play Coastal Carolina next Friday (Sept. 18) in Conway, S.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even with some hiccups, IU’s offensive performance was as efficient as you could ask for. All five primary attackers went for at least six kills. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic\u00a0called her own number on four occasions as the Hoosiers put up 46 total kills. Fifth-year middle blocker\u00a0Kiki Granberry<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0has provided incredible reinforcement at the net this season. She led the way in blocks (5.0) again and helped IU to 3.00 blocks per set (9.0 total) in the victory. That paired with eight aces as IU’s serving pressure kept Eastern Illinois out of sorts all night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IU went the entire match without a reception error. It’s the first time that the team hasn’t been aced in a contest since Sept. 29, 2023 (vs. Iowa). On the other side of things from the end line, IU provided eight aces from six different players. It’s the fourth time in the last five matches with eight-plus aces. Second-year setter\u00a0Teodora Krickovic<\/a>\u00a0set the team to a season-best .391 hitting percentage (46-10-92). In her two seasons as the starting setter, it’s the 10th time that IU has hit .375 or better in a match. It’s the sixth time in that stretch the program has hit at a .390 clip or above. Second-year outside hitter\u00a0Jaidyn Jager<\/a>\u00a0had 14 kills on a .400+ hitting percentage for the second night in a row. In total, it’s the sixth-consecutive time she’s been in double digits \u2013 matching a career-high streak. She’s had double-digit kills on 29 occasions during her brief collegiate career. Wilkinson Hall has been a safe space for the IU program over the last five year. The win over Eastern Illinois was the 25th-consecutive win over an unranked opponent on the home floor. Since the beginning of the 2022 campaign, IU is 42-15 (.737 winning percentage) at Wilkinson Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Field Hockey Defeats Cornell in Columbus<\/strong> Indiana Field Hockey defeated the Cornell Big Red 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Hoosiers sit at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in neutral site matches.\u00a0 The Hoosiers came in hot, with fourth year forward\/midfielder\u00a0Theresa Ricci\u00a0scoring in the first minute of the match. Assisted by second year forward\/ midfielder\u00a0Molly Stutte, they took the early 1-0 lead.\u00a0 In the second, IU defensive efforts would allow Cornell to take just one shot. Despite opportunities in the circle, the score remained 1-0 going into the break. As the third quarter began, Cornell’s Uma Kading knocked in a goal to make it one-all (1-1). The tie wouldn’t last long, as third year forward Charlotte Gasper would knock in a goal in the final minute of the third frame to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 advantage as play moved into the final quarter.\u00a0 IU maintained its lead as the game wrapped up, with first year goalkeeper\u00a0Isa Smulders\u00a0staying busy in the cage to defend shots from the Big Red.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal by Ricci is her first of the season and her eighth overall of her collegiate career. The early goal for IU makes the third game in a row where IU has scored first against its opponent, with all three goals being in the first quarter. The Hoosiers outshot Cornell 14-8. Overall, the team averages 19.6 shots per game while its opponents sit at 9.2.\u00a0 Smulders completed her first full game for IU, having two saves with three shots on goal. IU will travel back to its home state on Sunday to play Ball State at 11 a.m. in Muncie, Ind., at the Briner Sports Complex.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Purdue University Men’s Basketball Star Trey Kaufman-Renn granted another year of eligibility and enters the transfer portal<\/strong> \u00a0 Former Purdue star Trey Kaufman-Renn was granted a temporary restraining order on Wednesday, allowing him to have a sixth year of eligibility. He has also entered the transfer portal, according to a report from ESPN. Kaufman-Renn was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 59th pick in the second round of the NBA Draft. He played in five summer league games but never signed a contract with the Timberwolves. Kaufman-Renn is arguing that he would have not used his redshirt season in 2021-22 given the NCAA\u2019s new five-for-five eligibility model. In addition to the redshirt year, Kaufman-Renn played four seasons with Purdue. His best season statistically was his redshirt junior season in 2024-25, when he averaged 20.1 points per game. Last season, he averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alex Palou tests new IR-28 IndyCar for first time on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Oval<\/strong> IndyCars were back on the famed oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week testing the brand new IR-28 car which is set to debut in the 2028 season. Five-time series champ Alex Palou got his chance behind the wheel Thursday. The 2025 Indy 500 winner was able to dodge the wet weather in Speedway and get multiple runs in around the oval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndyCar is using his as well as 2016 Indy 500 champ Alexander Rossi\u2019s opinions to fine-tuning the new ride. Palou drove the IR-28 around the IMS road course earlier in the summer, but this was his first time around the oval. He was impressed by the handling and speed. \u201cWe got a lot more laps than I expected with the weather. And the car felt good,\u201d Palou said. \u201cWe actually got quite a lot of speed. We actually (gained) like two miles-an-hour throughout the day, and we didn\u2019t really work too much to get it, so it was good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palou said he didn\u2019t discuss much beforehand with Rossi, who was able to test the car on the oval Wednesday. But the two agreed it was a good time getting to try out the new rig, even though Palou would have preferred if more people were making the turns with him. \u201cIt\u2019s not as fun when you\u2019re alone,\u201d Palou said with a big smile. \u201cAt the beginning, it was fun because it\u2019s a new car and you\u2019re back at the speedway. And then you\u2019re like, \u2018Can you go faster?\u2019 or \u2018Can you put like five other cars so we can play together? But no, it\u2019s super fun.\u201d IndyCar plans to use the new IR-28 cars for the first time starting in the 2028 season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ball State University Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Mike Iandolo Signs Extension<\/strong> \u00a0 Ball State University Director of Athletics\u00a0Jeff Mitchell\u00a0announced head men’s volleyball coach\u00a0Mike Iandolo\u00a0has signed a contract extension that will continue his tenure leading the Cardinals. “I am grateful to\u00a0Mike Iandolo\u00a0for the tremendous impact he has made on our men’s volleyball program for the past five years, especially this past year in his first season as head coach,” said Mitchell. “Our future is exceptionally bright with coach Iandolo continuing to guide our program.” Iandolo was officially named head coach on Dec. 18, 2025. In his first year at the helm, he became just the third head coach in program history to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Coach of the Year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iandolo and the Cardinals captured Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) regular season and tournament championships, making him the fourth of five head coaches at Ball State to win both titles in his first year. The Cardinals overcame Pepperdine in a thrilling five-set win on May 5, hosting their first NCAA Regional match since 1992. With the victory over the Waves, Iandolo brought Ball State to its 17th NCAA Semifinal appearance in program history and its second in five years, eventually falling to UC Irvine in four sets on May 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ball State finished the 2026 season with a 26-5 record, the program’s most wins since reaching 27 in 1997. The Cardinals also achieved a No. 5 national ranking while claiming 14 victories over ranked opponents. Ball State won 13 consecutive home matches, the 10th-longest streak in program history, ultimately finishing 17-1 inside Worthen Arena. Under Iandolo, outside hitter\u00a0Patrick Rogers\u00a0was named an AVCA National Collegiate Men’s Player of the Year semifinalist, while five Cardinals earned AVCA All-American honors and four received All-MIVA recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am grateful to President [Geoffrey] Mearns and Director of Athletics\u00a0Jeff Mitchell\u00a0for their belief in me and their continued commitment to Ball State men’s volleyball,” Iandolo said. “I am also very appreciative of our fans, alumni and the entire Ball State community. The passion and support they continue to show our program is instrumental to our success. Our expectation is to compete for championships at the highest level, and we are committed to doing the work necessary to make that a reality. I am excited for what we can accomplish together. This is a special place, and I am honored to continue the journey with Ball State.” Iandolo joined the Cardinals’ staff ahead of the 2022 season and helped the program to a 23-4 overall record, along with MIVA regular season and tournament titles. The historic season continued as the Cardinals made their first NCAA Semifinal appearance since 2002. After the 2022 campaign, Iandolo helped Ball State to 20-win seasons in 2023 and 2024 as an assistant while helping the program earn three MIVA regular season crowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
