Indiana University Football Drops Back to Number 5 in the AP Poll<\/strong> Following a 38-0 victory over Western Kentucky, Indiana football dropped one spot to No. 5 in the AP poll. The four teams ranked ahead of the Hoosiers in the AP poll are, in order: Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame and Ole Miss. The Rebels jumped ahead of the Hoosiers following an emotional win over Lane Kiffin and No. 10 LSU Saturday night. IU received four first place votes in the AP poll, second behind No. 1 Texas. Despite dropping one spot in the AP poll, the Hoosiers remain at No. 4 in the Coaches Poll, behind only Texas, Georgia and Notre Dame. Other Big Ten teams ranked in the AP Top 25 include: No. 7 Ohio State, No. 12 USC, No. 13 Penn State, No. 17 Iowa, No. 18 Michigan and No. 20 Oregon. Big Ten teams who did not place in the AP poll but received votes include: Washington (107), UCLA (10) and Nebraska (2). Washington did come in at No. 23 in the Coaches Poll. Indiana will be back at Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 25 for their Big Ten home opener, as they will welcome in Northwestern, who received four votes in the Coaches Poll. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern and will be televised on FOX. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Volleyball’s Non-Conference Slate Ends on a High Note<\/strong> Tough teams answer the challenge in big ways. After losing game two, the Indiana volleyball team (7-2, 0-0 B1G) rattled off a pair of big set victories to finish off a win over NC State (25-17, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon. IU finishes the non-conference slate on a five-game winning streak and now has three wins over power conference opponents in 2026. It’s the fifth-straight year that the Hoosiers will enter league play with at least seven victories. IU’s offense has found its groove after a tough start to the campaign. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic provided 44 assists and ensured that all five primary attackers had at least seven kills. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager matched a career high with 20 kills while hitting .485. Third-year opposite hitter Ella Boersema was back in double digits with 13 kills (.500 hitting percentage).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When IU needed a jolt this weekend, third-year defensive specialist Emma Segal provided one. She recorded a career high four aces while digging six balls and assisting on another. She has played an increased role this season and now has 13 aces to just eight errors this year from the end line. IU racked up 10 aces on the afternoon, giving the team consecutive matches with double-digit aces for the first time in over three years. Since 2022, IU now has seven regular season wins against SEC or ACC opponents. IU’s only two defeats this season came to a pair of teams currently in the AVCA top 20. The 17-match Big Ten grind begins on Thursday (Sept. 24) evening as UCLA visits Wilkinson Hall. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Bloomington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even while dropping the second set, IU’s offense worked at a high level. A heavy advantage in kills (61-45) was a driving factor in picking up the seventh win of the campaign. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager (20) and third year opposite hitter Ella Boersema (13) combined for 33 of those kills. A much better night from the service line helped the Hoosiers come out with a four-set win. IU had 10 aces on the afternoon but 11 fewer service errors than last night’s win over Coastal Carolina. Third-year defensive specialist Emma Segal was the second IU player with four aces in a match this weekend (4 – Teodora Krickovic at Coastal Carolina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A night after picking up 12 aces against Coastal Carolina, IU added 10 more in the win over NC State. Five different players had one, led by four from third-year defensive specialist Emma Segal. It’s the first time IU has had double-digit aces in consecutive contests since 2023 (3-straight; 12 \u2013 at Miami (Fla.), 11 vs. Stetson and 10 at Austin Peay). Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager recorded her second career 20-kill match, matching her career high in the process. She hit .485 and added seven digs in the win over the Wolfpack. On the weekend, Jager averaged 4.75 kills per set while hitting .427 in the pair of victories. She surpassed 500 career kills in Saturday’s contest. Behind a balanced offensive effort, IU hit .354 for the match with 61 kills and just 16 attacking errors. It’s the fourth-straight contest that the team has hit .330 or better. All five primary attackers had at least seven kills while second-year setter Teodora Krickovic recorded 40+ assists for the 15th time in her career. Since the beginning of the 2023 campaign, IU is now 35-10 (.778) against non-Big Ten opponents. That includes a 2-1 slate against teams in last year’s NCAA Tournament. In that stretch, the Hoosiers have had a win against an ACC foe in every single year (2023 \u2013 Miami (Fla.), 2024 \u2013 Notre Dame, 2025 \u2013 Miami (Fla.) and 2026 \u2013 NC State). IU will head into Big Ten play with at least seven wins for the fifth-straight year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Cross-Country Hoosiers Close Competition from the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute <\/strong>\u00a0 The men’s and women’s cross-country teams concluded the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday morning with personal best times and a top-5 finish. The women’s 6K championship started the morning\u00a0of competition. Katy Zang had another strong showing, finishing second with a time 19:15.7. Lily Myers<\/a> and Maddie Rocchio followed with times of 21:05.1 and 21:05.8 (PR), respectively. Michaela Quinn (22:03.4) and Ava Jarrell (22:09.5) rounded out the scoring finishes to put Indiana in 12th<\/sup> place. In the men’s championship 8K, Liam Bauschke was the top finisher for the Hoosiers with a time of 25:07.5. The Hoosiers also saw Tony Orovenzano (25:15.8), Dylon Nalley (25:16.4), Ahmed Saleh (25:46.7), and Sam Quagliaroli (25:54.6) as scoring runners to finish 23rd<\/sup>. Indiana will have the week for training before heading north to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, October 2nd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Jets Rookie and Former Indiana University Wide Receiver Omar Cooper Jr. put on Injured Reserve with sprained ankle<\/strong> \u00a0 New York Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., one of the team’s three first-round picks, was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a sprained ankle. Cooper, who played only four snaps in the Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans, is expected to return after his four-week IR stint. He is eligible to play Oct. 18 against the New England Patriots. The Jets now have two wide receivers on injured reserve — Cooper and Tim Patrick — leaving them with only four receivers on the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium. Chances are the Jets (1-0) will lean heavily on their tight ends in the game plan. They have five on the roster and actually used all five on one play in the 23-10 win over the Titans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooper, drafted 30th overall out of Indiana, made a quick impact in his debut. On the opening possession, he caught a short pass, broke several tackles and turned it into a 30-yard play, setting up a touchdown. After that, he left the game. He didn’t practice all week and was ruled out Friday. Beyond starters Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell, the Jets have Isaiah Williams and Arian Smith at wide receiver. Williams and Smith were targeted only once apiece last week, with Smith dropping his only chance. For depth purposes, the Jets signed veterans Sterling Shepard and Tyler Johnson this week to the practice squad, but neither is expected to be elevated for Sunday’s game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indianapolis Colts Wide Receiver Keenan Allen faces 3-game suspension following alleged drunk driving arrest as ESPN reports<\/strong> Keenan Allen will be suspended for at least three games following an arrest for alleged drunk driving in downtown Indianapolis, according to Adam Schefter with ESPN. Sources told ESPN Allen would face the suspension, which is mandated as part of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement. Those suspensions can also be longer depending on if the player is intoxicated at higher levels, according to ESPN. Allen was arrested in Indianapolis Aug. 30, after police noticed a car pull into a no parking zone in the 100 block of South Meridian Street, near West Maryland Street. When officers went to speak with the driver, later identified as Allen, court documents say Allen had “extremely” slurred speech and glossy eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to court documents, police asked Allen to get out of the vehicle and, when he did, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath as he was speaking.\u00a0 Court documents say police brought over a Portable Breath Test (PBT) for Allen to use. On the first two tries, Allen was allegedly short winded and the PBT wasn’t getting a reading. On the third try, the test worked and Allen reportedly blew a .224.\u00a0 Further investigation led to officers arresting him. Allen was signed to the Colts just weeks before this happened. The team made the announcement on Aug. 19, which touts Allen as a “six-time Pro Bowler with over 1,000 career receptions.” Online court records show Allen’s initial hearing was waived, and a remote attorney conference is scheduled for Oct. 26. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Knight leads balanced UCLA offense past Purdue 52-38 in high-scoring Big Ten opener<\/strong> \u00a0 Wayne Knight ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns, Nico Iamaleava threw two of his three touchdown passes to Semaj Morgan, and UCLA defeated Purdue 52-38 on Saturday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams. A balanced offense helped Bob Chesney join Terry Donahue in 1976 and Jim Mora in 2012 as the third Bruins coach in the past 50 years to start his tenure 3-0. UCLA ran for 369 yards, and Iamaleava was 19-of-31 passing for 276 yards with his first scoring throws of the season. Anthony Woods\u2019 16-yard touchdown run on UCLA’s first drive of the third quarter put the Bruins back in front after falling behind for the only time. \u201cIn the end, we knew we were running the ball, they knew we were running the ball, and we were still able to run the ball,\u201d Chesney said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryan Browne had 378 yards passing and three touchdowns \u2014 two of which went to Xavier Townsend \u2014 with an interception, but the Boilermakers (1-2) dropped their 19th consecutive conference game. Fame Ijeboi added two touchdown runs. UCLA linebacker Sammy Omosigho forced two fumbles, taking his total to four during a three-game streak. Knight turned each of those extra possessions into touchdowns, and they proved to be the difference in a track meet where Purdue finished with 488 total yards. \u201cWe got a lot of things to fix, and it’s unfortunate because I think there were a lot of really good performances on the offensive side,\u201d Boilermakers coach Barry Odom said. \u201cWe didn’t give ourselves a chance.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iamaleava came out of the game twice because of injuries. He cut a finger on his throwing hand in the second quarter, scuttling a promising drive into one that ended with a missed field goal after UCLA scored touchdowns on its first three possessions. A hit from Purdue linebacker Charles Correa sent Iamaleava back to the sideline in the third quarter, but he was able to return after a few plays to finish out the game. \u201cMan, just what a warrior,\u201d Chesney said. \u201cHe just wanted to keep fighting, keep playing, and I’m sure he’s going to feel it a little bit tomorrow morning.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue’s Townsend was electric in the open field, starting with a dump off over the middle against a jailbreak blitz that he turned into a 75-yard touchdown reception on the Boilermakers\u2019 first play from scrimmage. Townsend ended up with six receptions for 162 yards, 152 of which came after the catch. The Bruins hadn\u2019t topped 500 total yards in a game since the 2023 LA Bowl in what ended up as Chip Kelly\u2019s final game as head coach. UCLA finished with 645 total yards, it’s most in a conference game since a wild comeback win at Washington State in 2019. Purdue hosts No. 3 Notre Dame next Saturday and UCLA Visits Maryland next Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Football Rolls at Union for Third-Straight Win<\/strong> A tight game early quickly turned into a comfortable victory for Taylor on Saturday at Union, as the Trojans scored twice late in the first half and were not threatened in the second half of a 48-14 win. TU never trailed in the contest and took the lead for good on a touchdown with 1:53 to play in the second quarter. A missed field goal gave the ball back to the Purple and Gray, before Alex Amburgy found John Irwin for 26 yards and Nate Munson for 22 yards and a touchdown. The score pushed Taylor\u2019s lead to 21-7 with 10 seconds remaining in the half. The gap grew to 28-7 on the first possession of the third quarter. Amburgy opened the drive with a 25-yard connection to Tyler Faust, before Bodie Howell continued the march with a 15-yard reception and a 12-yard scamper. Amburgy then rushed for 15 yards, before hitting JJ Payne for a 15-yard score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TU added touchdowns on its next two touches and pulled away from Union (0-3) for the 34-point victory. Taylor piled up 33 first downs in the game, continually keeping drives alive by going nine-of-15 on third and fourth down conversions. Those extended possessions resulted in 560 total yards of offense, as TU spread it around for 239 yards through the air and 321 on the ground. Amburgy performed well once again, passing for over 200 yards for the third time in four outings this season. The sophomore completed 13-of-21 passes for 210 yards and two scores and has now gone 29-of-40 for 478 yards and four touchdowns in TU\u2019s past two outings. Irwin led all receivers with five catches, while Nate Munson broke out for 85 yards and a touchdown. Payne, Aiden Zimmer and Luke Etchison all also hauled in a touchdown grab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor had six players rush for at least 20 yards, as it spread the workload around throughout the afternoon. Evan Barker led the way with 85 yards and two scores on nine carries, while Jedidiah Galvin added 54 yards, Howell ended with 42 and Devin Stupples had 39 yards and one touchdown. Wade Jones and Reid Messer paced an equally diverse box score on the defensive side, as 21 different Trojans were credited with at least one tackle. Jones posted a team-leading five stops and two hits behind the line of scrimmage, with Messer adding four tackles.
