Indiana University<\/strong> Men\u2019s Basketball to Host Cream & Crimson Scrimmage on Friday, October 2nd <\/strong> The Indiana men\u2019s basketball program will host an intrasquad scrimmage at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 2, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The event is open to the public, and doors will open at 4:30 p.m. ET.  The Cream & Crimson Scrimmage will provide a firsthand look at the 2026-27 Indiana Hoosiers with player introductions, four quarters of scrimmaging, and an autograph session with the team.  This event will be free to the public, and all parking lots will be open. Attendees will continue to operate under the Clear Bag Policy<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana brought in a seven-player transfer portal class, highlighted by Markus Burton (Notre Dame), Darren Harris (Duke), Bryce Lindsay (Villanova), Justin Monden (Maryland Eastern Shore), Jaeden Mustaf (Georgia Tech), Aiden Sherrell (Alabama), and Samet Yigitoglu (SMU). The Hoosiers also added a four-man freshman class of Vaughn Karvala, Trevor Manhertz, Prince-Alexander Moody, and Clemens Sokolov to pair with second-year forward Trent Sisley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoosiers went 4-0 and secured a gold medal at the 2026 FISU America Games in Lima, Peru. Third-year forward Aiden Sherrell claimed Tournament MVP honors and averaged 14.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocked shots per game. First-year guard Prince-Alexander Moody posted 12.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest, while first-year wing Vaughn Karvala led all Hoosiers in scoring at 16.3 points per outing.  Attendees are asked to bring a canned food item to donate to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.18 Indiana Field Hockey Tops No.13 Michigan<\/strong> \u00a0 No.18 Indiana Field Hockey defeated No.13 Michigan in a 1-0 match on Saturday afternoon at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers improve to 2-0 in conference play and 6-3 on the season.\u00a0 The contest opened up with a slow start in the first quarter. Michigan had the opportunity to take back-to-back penalty corners, with neither leading to a score.\u00a0 As the game continued into the second frame, the Hoosiers attempted a penalty corner in the final minutes of the half, with first-year midfielder Gabriela Garayo Aranceta taking a shot that got saved by Michigan’s goalkeeper, Hala Silverstein.
It would be a back-and-forth contest with both teams defensive momentum leading to a scoreless first half.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the break, fourth year forward\/midfielder Theresa Ricci came out strong, taking advantage of the Hoosier penalty corner to knock the strike in the cage from the middle of the circle. She was helped out by Second year forward\/midfielder Molly Stutte.\u00a0 After finding power in the beginning of the third, the Hoosiers went on to have one more penalty corner and two more shots. However, Michigan responded with offensive momentum of its own, finding opportunities in Hoosier territory twice, both without success. Indiana’s goal would go unanswered through the fourth quarter, securing the 1-0 B1G upset over the Wolverines.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third-year goalkeeper Sadie Canelli totaled four saves in the contest, making critical plays to prevent Michigan from adding to the score sheet.\u00a0 Second year forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo led the offense with three total shots and two shots on goal. Ricci followed closely, making two shots that were both on goal. Stutte added two, and fifth year forward Karly Redman, third year forward Mintje Hagen, fourth-year midfielder Javi Baeza and fourth year back\/midfielder Hannah Riddle each added one shot.\u00a0 Indiana out-shot its opponent 12-8 through the match. The win against the Wolverines is the first time the Hoosiers have notched a win in matchup history since 2024 and the sixth all time.\u00a0 IU will be back on the road for more contest play on Friday, Oct 2 and Sunday, Oct 4. The weekend will start against Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. at 4 p.m., followed by the Sunday contest against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio at noon.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avry Tatum Returns as the Indiana Hoosiers Women’s Volleyball Teams Wins their Seventh Straight<\/strong> Head coach Steve Aird got a boost to his formidable lineup when fifth year opposite hitter Avry Tatum made her season debut on Saturday evening. The Indiana volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 B1G) cruised in her return to action, picking up a straight-set win (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) over Maryland (10-3, 0-2 B1G) to close out the opening weekend of Big Ten action at Wilkinson Hall. With Tatum back on the right side and third-year Ella Boersema back in the middle, IU’s offense looked as dynamic as it has all season. Boersema led the charge with 11 kills on a .667 hitting percentage while Tatum contributed 10 kills of her own. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic dished out 38 assists in just three sets while guiding the team to a collective .361 hitting percentage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IU’s block roared to life with a physical presence in the front row. Tatum matched a career high with six rejections while fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry added five of her own. IU held Maryland to a .178 hitting percentage. It’s the second time in two tries that Big Ten opposition has been under the .200 threshold. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager finished just shy of a double-double with nine kills and a team-best eight digs. With the win on Saturday night, IU is now 2-0 in the conference in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1987 and 1988. The Hoosiers began last year’s Big Ten campaign at 5-0 enroute to a program record 14 conference victories. IU continues this year’s league slate on Thursday at top-10 Wisconsin. First serve is set for 9 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An efficient offense was the tale of the game for the Hoosiers. They hit above .330 in all three sets and sided out at 57 percent or better for the entirety of the contest. All five primary attackers had at least five kills while four of them had eight or more. On the other end, IU enjoyed a prolific blocking night. Led by six from fifth year opposite hitter Avry Tatum, who matched a career high, the Hoosiers kept Maryland’s two left-side attackers at a combined hitting percentage of less than .100 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time since 1987 and 1988, Indiana has begun back-to-back seasons with at least a 2-0 start. After a pair of sweeps over UCLA and Maryland, the Hoosiers will take a clean record into the month of October. Head coach Steve Aird and his team began last year’s Big Ten campaign at 5-0 before taking its first defeat. After having zero double-digit kill efforts in her first two seasons of college volleyball, third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema now has six in 2026. She returned to her natural position for the second time this year and had 11 kills on a .667 hitting percentage. She’s had 10+ kills as both an opposite hitter (4) and middle blocker (2) this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum made her season debut on Saturday night and chipped in 10 kills on a .350 hitting percentage. It’s the 60th match of her career with double-digit kills and the 48th during her time in Bloomington. She’s the sixth different IU player with a 10-kill match this year. Dating back to 2024, IU has won 18 of its last 24 Big Ten matches. The Hoosiers are 26-2 against unranked Big Ten opponents at Wilkinson Hall in the last 28 tries and have won 27 unranked home contests in a row on the floor in Bloomington. Over the last five years, IU is 44-15 inside the friendly confines of Wilkinson Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IU needed 100 swings on the night to hit .361 as a team with 46 kills from six different players. That mark is tied for the seventh-best single game hitting percentage in a Big Ten contest during the 25-point rally-scoring era (since 2008). Six of those eight marks have come in the last three seasons alone with two of them coming against the Terrapins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Indiana University Men’s Swimmer Van Mathias Honored for Record-Breaking Season<\/strong> \u00a0<\/strong>Indiana swimming and diving alum, director operations and pro athlete Van Mathias was honored with two awards from the USA Swimming community Saturday night at the annual Golden Goggle Awards. USA Swimming named Mathias its Male Athlete of the Year after a record-setting breakout season. Mathias set one world record, three American records and won five medals at the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships \u2013 his first senior international meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathias was also one of four athletes recognized for the Relay Performance of the Year, honoring that world record performance. At Pan Pacs, Will Modglin, Mathias, Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass set broke the world standard in the mixed 4×100-meter medley by almost a second with a winning time of 3:36.70. Mathias split a 57.3 on the breaststroke leg. Mathias also set Americans records in both the 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke this summer. Between Mathias and former IU swimmer Lilly King, Hoosiers own seven American records in breaststroke events. \u00a0Mathias was an All-American swimmer at IU from 2018-23 before becoming the program’s director of operations ahead of its 2024-25 collegiate season. He returned to competitive swimming during the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WNBA playoff schedule released as the Indiana Fever get rematch with the defending champions Las Vegas Aces<\/strong> The Indiana Fever will open the WNBA playoffs in the same place where last year’s playoff run ended. The Fever lost two of their last three games to fall from a chance to host a first-round playoff matchup to sixth place and a trip to Las Vegas to open the postseason.  Indiana lost to the eventual WNBA champion Aces in five games in last year’s semifinals, despite playing much of the season and all of the playoffs without all-star guard Caitlin Clark.  The Aces finished the regular season in third place, two games behind first-place Minnesota, though the Fever won two out of three meetings during the regular season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 5 – Fever 84, Aces 68- Kelsey Mitchell scored 27 points as Indiana beat Las Vegas on the road, as both teams played without a key player. Caitlin Clark missed the game with a back injury, while four-time league MVP A’ja Wilson sat out for the Aces due to an ankle injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 12 – Fever 109, Aces 75-A week later, Mitchell again scored 27 points and Clark returned to score 12 points and record seven rebounds and six assists as Indiana picked up another road win over Las Vegas, who had Wilson back in the lineup. She finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Fever from the rout. Aliyah Boston added 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Sophie Cunningham scored 20 points in the win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

August 6 – Aces 86, Fever 84 (OT)-Las Vegas came to Gainbridge Fieldhouse and avoided a season sweep at the hands of the Fever, but it wasn’t easy. Chelsea Gray hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force overtime, then won the game with another 3-pointer as the horn sounded in the extra period to secure the win. Clark had 20 points and eight assists in the win but also committed eight turnovers and missed a pair of free throws that would have helped Indiana clinch a regulation win. A\u2019ja Wilson had 26 points, 13 rebounds and the key defensive stop against Clark that set up Gray\u2019s winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fever are led by Mitchell’s 25 points per game, with Clark averaging 22.8 points per contest in the regular season. Mitchell scored at least 20 points in 35 of 44 games, including a WNBA-record 27-game streak that was snapped in the season finale at Minnesota. Clark’s 8.5 assists per game tied for the league lead and Aliyah Boston led the Fever with 8.1 rebounds per game. Wilson again has her name in MVP consideration, leading the league with 26 points per game, a full point ahead of Mitchell, who finished second in the league in the category. Princeton, Indiana native Jackie Young averaged 19.3 points for Las Vegas, ninth in the WNBA this season.  Wilson is fifth in the league with 9.3 rebounds per game and Young’s 6.6 assists were the fourth-best average in the regular season. Gray finished fifth in the WNBA with 6.6 assists per game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The schedule for the playoffs was released Friday morning. Here’s the schedule for the first round for the Fever. Game 1 | Sunday, Sept. 27 at Las Vegas (4 p.m. ET on ABC) Game 2 | Tuesday, Sept. 29 vs. Las Vegas (6:30 p.m. ET on Prime) Game 3 | Thursday, Oct. 1 at Las Vegas (TBD on TBD) According to the WNBA, two first-round games will be played each night starting Tuesday, Sept. 29 until the best-of-three series are decided. The semifinals are scheduled to begin on Sunday, Oct. 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts are each trying to avoid 0-3 starts in matchup between struggling AFC South teams<\/strong> Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen and Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans understand the urgency of Sunday’s early season AFC South matchup. The winner could find themselves tied for the division lead. The loser will spend the rest of the season dealing with the ramifications from an 0-3 start. It’s just that simple, even if they would rather focus on the here and now. \u201cTo start 0-2 is somewhere we don\u2019t want to be,” Ryans said Wednesday, two days after blaming himself for the two losses. \u201cUnfortunately, we\u2019ve been here before, but to me, the past years of where we\u2019ve been, it really doesn\u2019t have any impact on where we are now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Texans certainly know the history of such a dismal start. Only seven teams in league history reached the playoffs after losing their first three games, only six did it over a full season and only one franchise has done it twice \u2014 Houston in 2018 and again last season when it needed a 12-2 finish to make its third straight postseason appearance. This time seems different, though, given that the Texans already are 0-2 at home and managed just two field goals in last week’s loss to Cincinnati. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indy (0-2), meanwhile, hasn’t gone 0-3 since 2021 when it rallied to a 9-8 mark \u2014 a season that started their current five-year playoff drought that put general manager Chris Ballard and Steichen, the third-year coach, squarely on the hot seat even before this season began. But the Colts defense has struggled mightily so far, giving up a total of 74 points and more than 500 yards in each of its first two games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, the Colts have lost five straight to Houston \u2014 all by one score. So the stakes are high for Steichen and his team. \u201cYeah, it\u2019s a big matchup,\u201d he said. \u201cAny division games are a big matchup, especially Houston. I\u2019ve got a lot of respect for them and what they do. But again, we’ve got to find ways to win these close games at the end because \u2014 especially division games \u2014 if you want to win the division, you\u2019ve got to win division games.\u201d That quest begins Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CJ Carr throws for 3 TDs, runs for another to help No. 3 Notre Dame rout rival Purdue 49-10<\/strong> CJ Carr threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score, linebacker Drayk Bowen scored his first career TD on a 15-yard fumble return and No. 3 Notre Dame beat Purdue 49-10 on Saturday. Carr was 14 of 22 for 237 yards and threw his first interception of the season. It’s the second straight week Carr has had a TD pass and a TD run in the same game. Aneyas Williams carried 14 times for 80 yards with one TD as the Fighting Irish (4-0) produced a season-high 177 yards rushing. Notre Dame has won 14 straight and will start October with a perfect record for the first time since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was another miserable day for the struggling Boilermakers (1-3). Ryan Browne was 18 of 28 for 111 yards and lost the fumble that Bowen returned for the touchdown. Purdue had only 12 yards rushing in the first half and finished the game with only 218 total yards as it lost its third straight. Notre Dame took control when it stopped a fake punt on Purdue’s second possession 1 yard short of a first down near midfield. Four plays later, Carr connected with Micah Gilbert for a 14-yard TD pass to make it 7-0. Notre Dame capped its next two possessions with a 22-yard scoring run from Williams and a 1-yard TD run from Carr. Then Bryce Young’s strip sack led to Bowen’s scoop-and-score to make it 28-0 with 4:15 left in the first half. Carr closed out the first-half scoring with a 3-yard TD pass to Nolan James Jr. and, before departing early, added a 2-yard TD pass to Cooper Flanagan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notre Dame Head Coach Marcus Freeman will like the dominance of his team in the first half but will have plenty to correct in a far less efficient second half. When it mattered most, Notre Dame looked like a title contender. But it may have to wait to rise in the AP Top 25.<\/a> Things keep getting worse for the Boilermakers. The offense settled for one field goal and a TD with 6 seconds left in the game after scoring 36 or more points in three straight games. The defense continues to give up big plays, and Purdue still hasn’t beaten a Power 4 foe since its 2023 season finale against Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue and Notre Dame have met 90 times in this series but lately it’s been all Irish. They’ve won 11 straight in the Battle for the Shillelagh. Two years ago, Notre Dame dealt Purdue what was then the worst loss in school history, 66-7. And in the last three meetings, Notre Dame has outscored Purdue 171-40. Notre Dame Travels to North Carolina next Saturday and Purdue Visits Illinois next Saturday in the Cannon Trophy game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
