Kick time and television designation set for Indiana University Football\u2019s showdown at Nebraska<\/strong> As is the case each season, the Big Ten is rolling out kick times and television designations a couple weeks ahead of each game. Indiana\u2019s showdown at Nebraska on Oct. 10 will kick at 12 p.m. ET (11 a.m. local) and air to a national audience on FOX. The No. 5\/6 Hoosiers will make their first trip to Nebraska\u2019s Memorial Stadium since 2022 to face the currently undefeated Huskers. If both teams win this weekend, the matchup of 5-0 teams could be very attractive to national pregame shows.\u00a0 Nebraska hosts Maryland this weekend, while IU travels to Rutgers. Nebraska (4-0) is receiving votes in the national rankings, and has home wins thus far over Ohio, Bowling Green and North Dakota, and they opened Big Ten play with a road win at Michigan State. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University’s Sam Alexis unlikely to be impacted by new Big Ten basketball eligibility rule<\/strong> The Big Ten Conference issued a new rule Monday related to the eligibility of men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball players. Here\u2019s the language the league released today: \u201cThe Big Ten Conference announced Monday the unanimous adoption of a conference rule to prohibit men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball players who have signed a professional contract with the NBA, G-League or WNBA or any team that is a member of any such league, were on a roster for an NBA, G-League or WNBA team at any point or declared for the NBA or WNBA Draft but did not withdraw or declare an intent to return to college within the required timeframe, from maintaining eligibility for athletic competition at a conference institution. \u201cThe conference continues to evaluate potential rules restricting professional athletes in other sports from conference competition.\u201d Based on The South-Central Indiana News Network’s understanding of the pertinent facts, IU center Sam Alexis is not expected to be impacted negatively by the new rule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexis, who is seeking a fifth season of eligibility in the courts after the NCAA did not include class of 2022 athletes in its 5-for-5 rule, played NBA Summer League basketball for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Many players who participate in the NBA Summer League do not sign formal contracts but instead receive a per diem to have their out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed. Alexis is likely in this category. Alexis has never been on an official professional roster, and he never declared for the NBA Draft, but was instead automatically enrolled after ostensibly exhausting his eligibility. Based on the status of the court ruling and this Big Ten guidance, Alexis should remain eligible to play in 2026-27 for the Hoosiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexis spent one season with Indiana and etched his name in the program record book.\u00a0 His 68.7 field goal percentage is the\u00a0best single season ever\u00a0by an IU player on 100 or more attempts. After transferring in from Florida, Alexis played in all 32 games and started the final 23 for the Hoosiers.\u00a0 He averaged 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 21.3 minutes per game. Alexis also made a personal best 72.5% (50-of-69) from the free throw line, had a team-best 50 dunks, posted 13 games with 10-plus points, and eight games with at least eight rebounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Football\u2019s Turbo Richard and Roijah Hardy both have good chance to play Saturday Night at Rutgers <\/strong> Indiana football lost two major stars to injury during its 29-23 win over Northwestern on Friday evening. But head coach Curt Cignetti delivered good news about both on Monday. Running back Turbo Richard and linebacker Rolijah Hardy have a good chance to play Saturday evening when the Hoosiers return to the field at Rutgers. \u201cWe got really good news on Turbo,\u201d Cignetti said at his regular Monday press conference.\u00a0 \u201cHe\u2019ll be day-to-day, and I\u2019m optimistic he can play Saturday, as well as Rolijah Hardy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard was IU\u2019s leading rusher on the season prior to his first half injury against Northwestern.\u00a0 He currently has 50 carries for 383 yards and four TDs on the season.\u00a0 The 5-foot-9 junior back appeared to suffer a sprained ankle while being tackled on the sideline. Hardy co-leads the Hoosiers in tackles with 29, and he has an interception he returned for a TD.\u00a0 He was injured in the fourth quarter while attempting to tackle Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles.\u00a0 Hardy walked off the field under his own power but did not return to the game. Both players will get the benefit of an added day of recovery after playing Northwestern on Friday. No. 5\/6 Indiana (4-0) takes on Rutgers (1-3) Saturday at 8 p.m. ET in Piscataway, N.J. (BTN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Field Hockey’s Sadie Canelli Named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week<\/strong> \u00a0 Indiana’s Sadie Canelli was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday. Canelli was outstanding in the cage in Indiana’s 1-0 win over No. 13 Michigan this past weekend (Sept. 26). She logged four saves to preserve the shutout and move Indiana to 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have won six out of their last seven games and Canelli has played a huge role in that success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana University Men\u2019s Tennis Wraps Up ITA All-American Championships<\/strong> Indiana men’s tennis concluded play at the ITA All-American Championships on Friday, September 25th<\/sup>, with Aidan Atwood, Ben Pomeranets, Braeden Gelletich and Sam Landau competing in singles. Gelletich and Landau also represented the Hoosiers in doubles. Landau highlighted Indiana’s singles showing with wins over South Carolina’s Paul Barbier Gazeu and NC State’s Toby Kodat to reach the Round of 16, where he fell to Clemson’s Viktor Markov. In doubles, Landau and Gelletich won both of their qualifying matches and defeated Arizona’s Sasha Rozin and Gilb Sekachov in the main draw before their run ended against Ohio State’s Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico in the Round of 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana Fever fans to get free T-shirts for Game 2 ‘red out’ against the Las Vegas Aces<\/strong> Round one of the WNBA Playoffs continues, and Indiana is trying to get its home crowd more involved at its postseason home opener. On Monday, the Indiana Fever announced that every fan who attends Game 2 of the Fever vs. Aces series will receive a free T-shirt for an arena “red out.” The Aces will travel to Indianapolis in hopes of taking the\u00a0<\/a>best-of-three series. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.\u00a0this evening. Fans can still purchase tickets here<\/strong><\/a>. A’ja Wilson played like an MVP, totaling 38 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots Sunday, and the Las Vegas Aces rolled to a 102-85 Game 1 victory over the Indiana Fever<\/a> in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. Wilson was named the Associated Press WNBA Player of the Year earlier in the day for an unprecedented third year in a row, and the third-seeded Aces looked every bit like the team that has won three of the past four championships. Wilson’s scoring total matched a personal career postseason high. It wasn’t all Wilson for the Aces, who also received strong contributions from Jackie Young (21 points, 10 assists), Chelsea Gray (14 points, eight assists) and Jewell Loyd (10 points). Gray now has 397 career playoff assists to pass Courtney Vandersloot (390) for second place in playoff history. The Aces led 62-47 at halftime and were never seriously threatened in the second half, leading by as many as 27 points. They just missed the franchise record for most points in a playoff half. Las Vegas scored 63 points against Phoenix on Aug. 20, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor University Women’s Volleyball’s Azure Flagle and Margo Hernandez Collect Crossroads League Honors<\/strong> The Crossroads League announced its Athletes of the Week on Monday, and a pair of Trojans collected CL awards with Azure Flagle named the CL Defeder of the week and Margo Hernandez picking up her fourth CL Setter of the Week nod. Flagle made her debut as the Trojan libero this past week and delivered a pair of commanding games in the back row. The freshman collected 16 digs in a sweep of Marian (14-9, 4-4 CL) before nabbing 10 more in a top-20 sweep of No. 19 Mount Vernon Nazarene (15-9, 4-4 CL). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Palestine, Indiana native also dished out a career-high eight assists in the victory over the Knights while adding an ace. The award is the first for Flagle in her first collegiate season. Hernandez continues to orchestrate the Trojan offense to great effect, averaging 9.2 assists across the two victories for TU. The setter dished out 55 assists across six sets as the Trojans hit .293 throughout the week. Hernandez\u2019s play across the board was outstanding, adding 23 digs, six kills and four aces. A pair of double-doubles highlighted the week for the senior as No. 13 Taylor pushed its winning streak to three, with eight consecutive set wins. Hernandez remains second in the NAIA in assists with 829, just five behind the current leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans have started picking up awards and honors for the 2026-2027 year, already landing 17 Crossroads League and MSFA Mideast League Player-of-the-Week honors and one NAIA National Player-of-the-Week award.
