That includes a pair of sweeps over UCLA and Maryland to begin the league campaign 2-0 for the second-straight year. The month of October will kick things up a notch as head coach Steve Aird takes his team on the road for seven of 10 contests over the next five weeks. A balanced offense has been the key to IU’s successful start to the 2026 campaign. All five of IU’s most commonly used primary attackers (Jager, Boersema, Granberry, Snowbarger and Gray) are averaging at least 1.83 kills per set this year. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum (3.00 kps) and third-year opposite hitter Avery Daum (1.50 kps) have each made spot starts with no drop off.

Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic is at the center of the whole operation. She’s top five in the Big Ten in both assists per set (10.79) and aces per set (0.49). The Hoosiers are third in the conference in team hitting percentage (.297) among games in Big Ten play only. The Serbian is closing in on becoming the 12th player in program history to reach the 2,000-assist threshold. IU will face its stiffest test of the season this evening as it visits Madison to face top-10 Wisconsin in a primetime matchup on the Big Ten Network. Chris Vosters (PxP) and Camryn Irwin (Color) will have the call as the Hoosiers try and break a 19-match losing streak to the Badgers. First serve is set for 9 p.m. ET from UW Field House.

A Win Would over Wisconsin: Be the sixth win over a top-10 team in program history. Be the first win over Wisconsin, and first in Madison as well, since 2012. Be the 11th ranked win for Steve Aird as coach of Indiana. Be the second-highest ranked road win in program history. The Hoosiers are looking for their first win over Wisconsin, and first in Madison, since 2012. IU has won 18 of its last 24 Big Ten games, dating back to the final week of the 2024 season.
Head coach Steve Aird’s team will play seven of its 10 games in October on the road. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum was made eligible to play ahead of Big Ten action and made her season debut against Maryland on Saturday. She had 10 kills and six blocks, the 60th match of her career with double-digit kills. Tatum is one of six IU players with 10+ kills in a match this year.

For the first time in over 35 years, the Hoosiers have started 2-0 in Big Ten play in consecutive seasons. IU picked up wins over UCLA and Maryland last week to start the conference campaign. Head coach Steve Aird’s group opened 2025 at 5-0 in league play before suffering the first setback. Over the past two seasons, second-year outside hitter <dfn>Jaidyn Jager</dfn> has been a catalyst in the offense. When she records at least 15 kills, the Hoosiers are 12-0 in those 12 games. That includes a 4-0 mark this year which is highlighted by her 20-kill performance against NC State in non-conference action. Third-year Ella Boersema has been IU’s most versatile player this season. She has six matches with double-digit kills including 21 combined in wins over UCLA and Maryland. Boersema has done that while playing as an opposite hitter (4) and a middle blocker (2). She’s hitting a team-best .368 on the year.

After a tough season opener at Louisville, IU’s offense hit at a combined .285 clip in the month of September. The Hoosiers went 9-1 in those matches and hit above .330 on five different occasions. IU heads into the weekend’s action having hit .350 or better in four of the last six games. IU will have the chance to end a pair of long losing streaks over the next few weeks. The Hoosiers have lost 19-straight matches against Wisconsin, the second-longest active streak against any Big Ten program for IU. The Hoosiers ended a long run to Penn State last year and will look to do the same in Madison.

Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic is closing in on becoming the 12th player in program history to reach 2,000 career assists. She’s less than 400 away as she continues to set the Hoosiers at an elite offensive rate. The Serbian is averaging 10.74 assists per set in her career at IU. Since the 2022 campaign (four-plus years), Indiana has racked up 86 wins under head coach Steve Aird. That includes at least 15 wins in each full season during that stretch. IU will be looking to reach that plateau again for the fifth-straight year in 2026.

Fourth-year setter Luca Fickell will return to what is now her new home in Madison this week. The daughter of Wisconsin head football coach Luke Fickell has a pair of brothers on the Badger football team and got to visit Madison on September 12th for the team’s win over Western Illinois. Fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry has stepped her game up in the last weeks. She enters the week eighth in the Big Ten in blocks per set (1.26). Granberry has her hitting percentage climbing to .299 and is producing a career high 2.79 points per set.

Wisconsin (8-4, 2-0 Big Ten) The Badgers have battled through injuries and a gauntlet of a schedule to begin the Big Ten campaign at 2-0 with top-25 wins over Oregon and Purdue. With the addition of freshman opposite hitter Decelise Champion, Wisconsin has finally settled into a starting lineup. The show starts and ends with junior setter Charlie Fuerbringer. She is averaging 11.29 assists per set and 2.14 digs per set. She returned from injury in last year’s contest against IU as Wisconsin got fully back into rhythm enroute to an appearance in the national semifinals. With Champion on the right side, freshman outside hitter Audrey Flanagan (3.15 kills per set) and senior outside hitter Eva Travis (2.98 kills per set) have gotten more comfortable hitting from the left. Freshman middle blocker Lynney Tarnow is hitting at nearly a .400 clip.

Since Kelly Sheffield took over the Wisconsin program in 2013, it has consistently been one of the best in the country. In that period, they’ve also dominated IU in the all-time series. He is 19-0 against the Hoosiers during his stint in Madison. Wisconsin has won 19 matches in a row with IU’s last win coming back in 2012. IU has won just one set in the last 10 matches. The Hoosiers came within a series of points of forcing a fifth set in 2022. IU had two set points to force a fifth before Wisconsin stormed back for the 3-1 win in Madison.

Rutgers’ Greg Schiano highlights the Indiana University Football streak he must end to have a chance vs. the Hoosiers Indiana’s late September 2024 home win against Maryland seems like a long time ago. Over two years, in fact. Running for the Terps that day, Roman Hemby broke loose for 165 total yards and two scores, and Maryland linebacker Kellan Wyatt had five tackles and a sack. You might have heard of them. It was also the game when coach Curt Cignetti implored the students to come to the game, stay at the game and study later. The Hoosiers pulled away in the second half and won 42-28. It was the last time IU didn’t sell out a Big Ten game. It was also the last time the Hoosiers committed more turnovers than their opponent. The turnover margin was 4-0 that day. And that was 28 games ago.

According to OptaStats, it is the longest such streak by any FBS team over the last 30 seasons. It’s a good idea to win the turnover margin against Cignetti. He’s 23-0 at IU when the Hoosiers have a positive margin. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano seems keenly aware of his team’s need to end that run on Saturday evening in New Jersey. And he’s a tad envious of the IU streak without a negative turnover margin. “They do what I cherish, and that’s they take care of the football and they take it away,” Schiano said. “They’ve won or tied the net turnover margin 28 straight weeks, which is a modern-day record.”

Here is everything Greg Schiano said about the Hoosiers. “We certainly have a lot of great opportunities in front of us with the defending national champions coming to town. My hat is off to Coach Cignetti and their entire program for what they have been able to do here in the last few years. It is a great testament to what fine coaches they are, and it has been fun to watch from a distance. Now we get a chance to play them, so I am excited about that.

“When you look at their team, their front seven on defense is as good as there is in America. You look at the job that Bryant Haines has done as a defensive coordinator; he has just done a remarkable job. When you look at those guys up front—Daley, Tucker, Landino, Osunsanmi, and then the two linebackers, Hardy and Jones—that really is a stacked group. It makes it very tough sledding. Their secondary is really sound, and they play very good defensive football.

“Then you flip over to the offensive side, and Mike Shanahan does an incredible job with their offense. With the new quarterback, Hoover, coming in, they haven’t missed a beat. “On the running back situation, I know they have some injuries there, but Lee Beebe stepped in and did a great job. Richard, if he plays, is a dynamic back we looked at last year. “Charlie Becker has really emerged as a top receiver in the country, and Nick Marsh coming over from Michigan State is someone we have seen a lot of.

“It is a dynamic offensive football team with a great offensive line. Bob Bostad, who was our offensive line coach when we were down in Tampa, does a tremendous job with those guys and he has really good players. My hat is off to them. “Special teams coach Grant Cain does a great job too. He has been doing this a long time and makes sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed. He does an exceptional job.

“There is no weakness in this team, which is why they have won 20 straight. They do what I cherish: they take care of the football and they take it away. They have won or tied the net turnover margin 28 straight weeks, which is a modern-day record that goes a long with many of their other accomplishments. It is certainly a tall task, but one that we are very excited about. It is a great opportunity with homecoming and a blackout, so it is going to be a great environment. I am looking forward to it.

How do you feel like they reflect Curt Cignetti as a coach? What about this Indiana team is a Curt Cignetti team?- “I think he does a great job of evaluating, recruiting, development, and coaching. He believes in the same principles: take care of the football, run the football, be physical and violent, and play sound defense. But to believe it and do it are two different things. He has done a great job everywhere he has been in his career. Obviously, Frank (Cignetti) was here with us during the first go-round, and Coach Cignetti has done a great job. Every place he has been, he has won. He has a formula that he believes in and he executes that formula.”

You touched on how different Indiana is as a program from the last time you played them in 23 to now. Has that made your job and other coaches in the Big Ten harder just because of how quickly they went to national champions?-“When you look from 2023 to today, it is amazing how much college football has changed. Again, it is a tribute to the job Coach Cignetti has done and that Indiana has done, but it is certainly a different look than it was just three years ago.”

You mentioned Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker, two of the top guys down the field in terms of the passing game. What is your confidence level in the defensive backs on this team in terms of matching up against them?-“I have a great deal of confidence in our secondary. Our guys will challenge them; they don’t back down to anybody. When you watch them, Becker does a tremendous job on the back-shoulder fade. They did it when they had their quarterback last year, and they do it now. It really is something to watch—as a coach, it is poetry in motion the way they can do it. Then, if you start playing for that, they beat you over the top. They also do a really good job of running the football out of the RPO and off the run. Straight up, that is why they have won 20 straight games and why they are the defending national champions.”

Beebe and Richard combined for over 200 rushing yards against Northwestern. Where is the confidence right now in the defensive front to slow that down?-“I have a lot of confidence. Our guys will play really hard. Like I said, though, Bob Bostad is a great offensive line coach. They have a very good offensive line, very good running backs, and a passing game that you have to respect. You have to pick your poison at times. The big thing is going to be to limit explosive plays and hopefully take the ball away. They haven’t given it away much, so that is going to be a challenge.”

You mentioned Osunsanmi before. He is a player you went up against in the bowl game two years ago at Kansas State. Any memories of him from there, and what have you seen from him on tape?-“I have memories from there, and then memories of pursuing him in the transfer portal. I really liked him as a player. We didn’t get a ton of traction with him there, but I really liked his game. They had a couple of kids on that team that I really liked, but he ended up at Indiana, so now we will play against him. But he is a really fine player. He is explosive and twitchy. Yeah, he’s a really good player.”

I don’t know if you caught them against Northwestern, but what did Northwestern do that you can replicate to try and slow down a team like Indiana?-“I certainly watched them several times. You have to do it within the realm of your schemes and your personnel. There are certain things you look at and you say, ‘Okay, we might be able to do some of that.’ But with that kind of stuff, you better tackle well against this outfit because those running backs run as hard as anybody in the country. I am not just talking about one of them; any of them run really, really hard. They have a great tool in their stiff-arm. They do an elite job with it. It reminds me of Ray (Rice). When Ray used to put that thing out there, it was a weapon.”

You mentioned Charlie Becker before. What about him jumps off the tape? Obviously, him and KJ (Duff) are two of the best in the country. How do they compare?-“They are both technically very sound players with very good hand-eye coordination. They run really good routes. You can tell they have worked very, very hard at it. They are masterful at their craft.”

Here are the former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Players on NBA training camp rosters Here are the former IU basketball players and other notable school alumni on rosters and coaching staffs as the NBA opens training camps ahead of the 2026-27 season. I’m not going to put up with that (expletive) at all, excuse my French and God bless. But that is unacceptable.”

It was a frustrating game for the Aces. They blew an 11-point second-quarter lead, spent the entire second half playing catch-up and Wilson, who had 38 points and 16 rebounds in Game 1, finished with 22 and nine in Game 2. The fracas began when Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was called for a foul on Wilson. As Cunningham started to get up, replays showed one man seated behind the basket pointing in Wilson’s direction while taking a step toward the court. Wilson then walked toward the man, pointing at him. Two teammates, an assistant coach and security personnel then separated everyone involved. Aces coach Becky Hammon said she was told Wilson was given the technical for stepping off the court. While Wilson said she apologized to her team for getting the technical, Hammon defended her star player.

“I didn’t exactly see what happened, I kind of saw the aftermath,” Hammon said. “I’ve never seen A’ja Wilson go like that so whatever was done I can tell you she felt very disrespected in that moment. The last time Las Vegas visited Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Aces guard Jackie Young, an Indiana prep star, said another man on the sideline was chirping at her all night and finally said something that stepped over the line.

The decisive Game 3 will be played Tonight in Las Vegas, just like last season’s WNBA semifinals. The Aces defeated the Fever 3-2 en route to winning their third league title in four years. Both men were escorted out and later returned to their seats. In both cases, Fever officials issued a statement saying they did not violate the fan code of conduct policy. The team declined any additional comment. But that explanation didn’t sit well with Wilson. “How did he get back in the game? Because they said he didn’t do anything. Of course he didn’t, and that’s fine,” Wilson said. “You don’t know me, at all, so to come and step towards me and point at me and say anything, I’ll turn around and tell you. So, yeah, I apologized to the team for that (technical). You don’t have to like me, love me, you can hate me with all of your heart, but you don’t know me. But I guarantee you, you will respect me.”

Hammon put it another way. “There’s rules and procedures, I think there’s a certain etiquette both players and fans need to abide by, but clearly there’s some things that get the lines crossed and it seems to happen here,” Hammon said. “Like I said, I don’t, I can’t speak to specifically what was said or what was done, but I can speak to the character of our players and the stuff they deal with and the disrespect whether it’s a word or an action, a gesture, it should be addressed appropriately. It’s not my job, it’s the job of this arena so I assume they’re following protocol.”

Taylor University Women’s Golf Finishes Third in Battle at Blackthorn The Taylor women’s golf team played to within four shots of the lead through the first 18 holes at the Battle at Blackthorn, before seeing Bethel pull away over Tuesday’s final round to take the title. No. 20 Taylor shot a team score of 307 on Monday, ending one stroke back of No. 22 Bethel and four back of Grace on the team leaderboard. TU posted a 312 on Tuesday, with Bethel firing a blistering round of 284 to run away with the title. The final result saw the Trojans finish in third place at the 11-team event with a two-round total of 619, trailing Grace by 10 strokes and Bethel by 29.

A pair of freshmen paced Taylor on the individual leaderboard, with Presley White and Sophia Stanton finishing in a tie for fifth at six-over par. The result was best career-finish for each, with White now boasting three-straight top-10 showings to open her collegiate career, and Stanton owning a trio of top-20 performances. White turned in a career-best 72 on Monday, with Stanton carding consecutive rounds of 75. Elyse Swanson and Sam Lemieux followed in 19th and 20th to give TU four finishers inside the top-20 in the field of 59. Swanson finished at 15-over par and one shot in front of Lemieux. No. 20 Taylor will close its fall schedule on October 12 and 13 at the Crossroads League Preview in Columbus, Indiana.

Taylor University Men’s Golf Takes Team Title at Blackthorn The Taylor men’s golf team continued its strong fall campaign on September 28 and 29 at the Battle at Blackthorn, shooting under par in both rounds and ending at 12-under par for the tournament to clear the field of nine teams by 25 strokes. For the third time in as many outings this fall, TU finished the opening day of action in the lead and this time extended the gap on day-two to complete the team title. The Trojans shot a 285 on Monday, before widening the lead with a 279 on Tuesday to finish at 564. The round of 279 on Tuesday marked Taylor’s best single-round tally since the 2017-2018 season, while the 36-hole team total of 564 marked a new program best for the Trojans.

Freshman Hayden Fox topped the field of 49 for his first collegiate title, shooting under-par rounds of 70 and 66 to finish at 136 and eight-under par for the event. The two-round score by Fox put him just two strokes off matching TU’s program-record over 36 holes. Ben Oakley followed close behind in third place, carding scores of 68 and 74 to end at two-under par with a final of 142. Julian Valenti and Cameron Lahman finished sixth and seventh in the standings, giving TU four competitors inside the event’s top-seven finishers. Valenti came in at one-under par and Lahman ended at even-par after each shot a round of 70 on Tuesday. Jackson Umthum was TU’s final competitor at the event, taking 13th with a 36-hole total of 147 and plus-three.
