The top ranked Bloomington South Panthers had a rough Saturday as the made the five and hour bus trip to Southern Ohio to take on the Ironton Fighting Tigers and lost 37-0 at Historic Tanks Memorial Stadium Saturday Night in Ironton, Ohio which borders the Ohio River and is 20 Minutes North of Huntington, West Virginia. The Panthers are the Number 1 Team in Class 5A and traveled to Ironton to face a team that lost their first game of the season last week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter as both teams traded empty possessions. Bloomington South’s Duncan Combs threw an interception as Tyson Harvey picked off Combs in the Red Zone and the Tigers missed a 26-yard field goal with 4:41 left in the first quarter. Ironton scored with 10:40 left in the second quarter as Wyatt Wolfe found Easton Caudill down the middle of the field on a 74-yard strike to lead 7-0. Caudill punched it in from a yard out and Tyson Harvey scored on the two-point conversion with 2:42 left before halftime to make it 15-0 Tigers. The Panthers had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown called back because of holding call and a personal foul penalty that gave them the ball at their own 18-yard line.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 The Fighting Tigers found the end zone one more time before the break when Wyatt Wolfe threw his second touchdown pass of the game with a 3-yard pass to Brycen Mullins with three seconds left to make it 22-0 Ironton.\u00a0 The Fighting Tigers and Panthers battled through the Third Quarter keeping the scoreboard quiet until Tyson Harvey scored from four yards out and Bryson Kerns converted the two-point attempt to make it 30-0 with 1:56 left in the third quarter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0 \u00a0Under the Ohio High School Athletic Association rules since Ironton had a 30-0 lead at the end of the third quarter the game went to a running clock unless the Panthers were able to get on the scoreboard and then the running clock would stop. The Panthers would not be able to score, and the Fighting Tigers added a Kayden Edwards touchdown reception as he took an 85-yard screen pass to the house with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter to make 37-0 as the Fighting Tigers improve to 6-1 with three regular season games remaining.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tigers Travel to Harvest Prep and Portsmouth and host Galia Academy all from Ohio as the Buckeye State has a 10-game regular season followed by six game playoffs that includes four regional games and State Semifinals and State Finals. There are seven Divisions of Football in Ohio and Ironton is in the third smallest division all based on enrollment and began their State Tournament in 1972 and the State Finals are held at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium located in Canton, Ohio located right next the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Wyatt Wolfe threw for 426 yards and three touchdown passes. Boston College Commit Kayden Edwards had 7 catches for 193 yards, and a touchdown and Easton Caudill had 9 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown along with 2 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0 Bloomington South played its first out of state opponent\u00a0since September 9th, 1994, when they Beat Cincinnati Moller 28-27. The Panthers are 6-1 on the season and will host 4-3 Brebeuf Jesuit on Friday Night at 7:30 PM as the Braves beat Columbus North on the road 32-29. This is the first time since November 21, 2025, since the Panthers were shutout at New Palestine 42-0 in the Class 5A Semi State. The last time the Panthers where shutout in the regular season was on October 6, 2017, against Columbus North 23-0 in a neutral site game. Bloomington South has outscored its opponents 292-85.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0 This game helps the Panthers prepare for a road trip to two weeks to Class 6A Center Grove for matchup with the 6-1 Trojans. Bloomington South has made it to the Semi State the last three years and are hoping they can get back to the Semi State but make their first State Championship Game since 1998.\u00a0 It wasn’t the result they wanted, and they had a long bus trip back to Bloomington but playing in a historic venue in another state against a team who is one of the best small school teams in Ohio is one that both teams will never forget and makes each better and once in a lifetime for Kids from Bloomington South playing an out of state team.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
