That means all three players and a total of 97 student athletes in the case remain eligible to compete. The NCAA is appealing Monroe County Circuit Court judge Kara Krothe’s preliminary injunction against it, and in so doing had attempted to stay the injunction until the appeal could be heard and ruled upon. On Friday, the Indiana Court of Appeals ordered the NCAA’s emergency motion for the stay “is denied.”

By deciding to not stay the lower court ruling, the Appeals Court is signaling, among other things, that it does not believe the NCAA will suffer irreparable harm by allowing the athletes to compete before it rules, and also that the NCAA is not likely to succeed on appeal. Daley, Wyatt and Alexis are all class of 2022 athletes who exhausted their college eligibility during the 2025-26 athletic year. The 2022 class was not included in the NCAA’s new five-year eligibility rule passed this summer. Their exclusion from the rule triggered a wave of lawsuits across the nation, including the Indiana case. The NCAA has argued in multiple cases it will suffer irreparable harm by allowing class of 2022 athletes to compete because their participation would take roster spots away from other eligible athletes. But Daley, Wyatt and Alexis have not replaced anyone on their respective teams. No IU football or basketball players have been removed to make space for them. This latest court ruling is likely to keep Daley, Wyatt and Alexis eligible for a while. It is unclear when the Appeals Court will hear and rule on the case. But until such time, all three remain eligible.

No. 2/5 Indiana’s Stars Shine at College Swimming League Match 5 No. 2/5 Indiana won 11 events, scored 469.83 points and placed second in College Swimming League Match 5, its second meet of the brand-new fall tournament, on Friday night inside the Mt. SAC Aquatic Center in Walnut, California. With a win, in its first match, and Friday’s second place finish, Indiana is almost certainly assured a spot in CSL’s postseason. Following results of six matches between 12 teams, three teams will automatically qualify for the Championship Match, and four more for the Wild Card Match. The winner of the Wild Card match advances to the championship. The IU Natatorium in Indianapolis will host both meets, November 5-6. The Hoosiers finished behind No. 7/9 NC State (469.83) and in front of No. 4/7 Cal (394.33) and No. 8/2 Stanford (311).

Liberty Clark earned MVP honors for the meet after repeating her wins from round one. The second-year Hoosier won all three of her events – the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle. Classmate Alex Shackell won the honor for Match 1, and she was nearly equally impressive in Match 5. Shackell swept the butterfly events and then contributed to Indiana’s Super Skins win at the end of the meet. The Indiana women have won the Super Skins 200-yard medley relay now at both CSL meets. The quartet of Miranda Grana, Anita Bottazzo, Shackell and Grace Hoeper was again the last relay standing through four reps of the medley relay. Bottazzo and NC State’s Eneli Jefimova had great battles in the breaststroke events. NC State elected to swim breaststroke in the 50-yard skins event and nearly regretted it, as Bottazzo took the Wolfpack swimmer to the end – within three tenths in each race leading up to the final, where Jefimova took a half-second win. But Bottazzo got her revenge in the 100-yard breaststroke individual event, touching in 58.25 to beat the reigning NCAA Champion.

Josh Bey also took down a reigning NCAA Champion in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke. He had a great battle with Cal’s Yamato Okadome, taking the lead in the back half of the race before stopping the clock in 1:51.36 to Okadome’s 1:51.82. On the men’s side, Raekwon Noel won the 200-yard butterfly to complete IU’s sweep of the event with Shackell. Miroslav Knedla touched first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 45.35. Freshman Lylah Theriac announced herself to the college swimming world with her win in the 200 IM. Her 1:55.74 shows a near four-second drop from her pre-college best, 1:59.66. She notably beat NC State’s Caroline Bricker, a two-time All-American in the 200 IM and an NCAA Champion in the 400 IM. Francesco Di Ponzio’s 73rd-minute goal gave the hosts their fourth ranked victory of the season. Despite the defeat, Indiana’s 4-1-1 mark (13 points) in Big Ten play is tied for the best through six matches played. In the 32nd minute from a free kick in its own half, Indiana quickly moved through the Rutgers defense with one-touch passing, and the ball found its way to Oliver Moller-Jensen on the right wing. Moller-Jensen took a shot first time but couldn’t curve it around the on-rushing keeper. In the 40th minute with missed chances on both sides Michael Mroz kept it level with a save in a one-on-one situation.

In the 59th Minute a Nolan Kinsella service from the right side just missed a crashing Stephane Njike, crashing at the back post. In the 73rd Minute Di Ponzio needed a pair of shots to score his winner. His first took a lucky deflection off IU defender Josh Maher, right to the right foot of Di Ponzio, who had a clear shot at the back post and took it to give Rutgers the 1-0 lead and the win. Friday’s result snapped Indiana’s 13-match unbeaten streak, the program’s longest unbeaten streak since 2017. Those Hoosiers went 23 matches undefeated (18-0-5) into the NCAA Championship match, where they suffered their lone loss of the year. The result also marked the first time an opponent has shut out Indiana this season. The Hoosiers had scored eight goals in their last three Big Ten matches coming into Friday’s match. Mroz made seven saves, his second-highest tally of the season. Indiana will play a second consecutive Big Ten road match when it visits Ohio State on Tuesday (Oct. 20). In the 33rd minute off assists from Kayla Briggs and Kennedy Bell, Michigan State’s Emerson Sargeant scored her second goal of the season. Sargeant hit it over the goalkeeper and off the crossbar to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. After the goal the Hoosiers looked for a quick response, and a Grace Hamm long ball found Emma Ehret in the middle of the box. Ehret’s volley then went over the crossbar for a goal kick. The Hoosiers won set four to force the deciding fifth frame but suffered couldn’t find points late in the defeat (25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 25-21, 9-15) to 11th-ranked Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena. The Hoosiers’ block was the best it has been all year, holding Oregon to just a .224 hitting percentage. Third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema had a hand in nine blocks, two of them solo. It is the third match of her career with at least nine rejections. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic had a career high six blocks. As the match went on, Oregon’s defense rose to the occasion and stymied IU’s diverse attack. The Hoosiers hit just .195 (57-27-154) in the contest, ked by 19 kills from second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager. Second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray came off the bench with eight kills. Boersema finished just shy of the rare middle blocker double-double. She added nine kills to pair with her nine blocks. All five primary attackers that finished the match provided seven-or-more kills. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum had 10 kills but hit just .065. Krickovic finished the match with 47 assists. IU will look to end a three-match losing streak while visiting No. 20 Washington in Seattle on this afternoon. First serve from Alaska Airlines Arena is set for 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT on B1G+. It’s the fourth ranked opponent that IU will have played in Big Ten action this year.

Oregon rode the momentum of the home crowd to a big fifth-set victory. IU committed eight attacking errors in the deciding set and trailed the entire way. In total, the contest was decided by five points with the Ducks coming out on the winning side. When they needed it most, the Ducks went to their hard-hitting offensive trio on the pins. Oregon’s three pin attackers combined for 45 kills. The Hoosiers got just 36 from their collection of attackers, led by 19 from second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager. 18 kills from IU’s middles weren’t enough in the offensive category. The Hoosiers racked up 16 total team blocks, including nine in the first two sets. Third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema had a hand in nine of those, her third match of her career with at least nine blocks. It’s the first time that IU has had 16-or-more team blocks in a Big Ten match since 2023 (18 – vs. Illinois). Boersema’s nine blocks are the most by an IU player in conference play since 2023 (9 – Savannah Kjolhede at Michigan State).

Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager finished just shy of her career high with 19 kills in the loss to Oregon. She finished one dig away from a double-double as well. The Hoosiers racked up nine service aces from the end line, exploiting the seam in Oregon’s passing rotations. Warfel was named to the First Team and Allen to the Second Team in voting by the league’s head coaches. The sophomore duo leads a TU squad picked seventh in the preseason poll, one spot higher than a year ago. Under fourth-year head coach Cassie Wiseman, the Trojans went 17-13 (7-11 CL) in 2025-26 and earned an at-large bid to the NAIA national tournament, the program’s first appearance since 2019-20. TU’s 10-win improvement was one of just six such turnarounds in NAIA women’s basketball.

No freshman at the NAIA and NCAA levels of college basketball scored at Warfel’s pace last season, when she led the entire NAIA in scoring at 24.3 points per game and in total points with 679 through 29 starts. That mark set a TU women’s basketball program record for points scored by a freshman while ranking fourth all-time on TU’s single-season list. She displayed a knack for finding the ball on both ends of the floor as she led the CL in steals at 2.8 per game. Warfel collected NAIA All-America Third Team and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, becoming the 19th All-American in program history and the first NAIA All-American since 2020-21. She was also named CL Newcomer of the Year, First-Team All-Crossroads League and a six-time CL Player of the Week.

Allen started 29 of 30 games as a freshman and led the Trojans in minutes at 31.9 per game, a number that climbed to 33.2 in league play. She ranked second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and added 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals. Allen reached double figures 17 times during the regular season and scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting in a win over receiving-votes Huntington. She earned Honorable Mention All-Crossroads League and CL All-Freshman Team recognition. The Boilermakers (3-4, 2-2) narrowed the deficit to 31-26 on Ryan Browne’s 8-yard TD run but the 2-point conversion attempt failed. Trey Cooley’s 53-yard touchdown run gave the Huskies a 38-26 edge with 10:30 left in the fourth quarter. Cooley finished with a team-high 113 yards on eight carries. Helped by a crucial penalty, the Huskies had taken a 24-17 halftime lead. A roughing the passer call on an incomplete pass on third down-and-10 on Purdue’s 10-yard line gave the Huskies a first down. Two plays later Brian Bonner Jr. scored on a 1-yard run with 27 seconds left that gave the Huskies the lead for good. “You are not usually minus-4 in the turnover battle and win the game,” Huskies coach Jedd Fisch said. “I thought our guys played so hard today. The way the kids in all three phases wanted it so bad.”

Fisch said his defense did a great job holding Purdue to 98 yards rushing with most coming on one 59-yard run by Antonio Harris. “Their defensive line won on the line of scrimmage,” Purdue coach Barry Odom said. “They had everyone in the box and we were not able to counter, unfortunately. I think our offense will probably go as we’re able to run the ball. We couldn’t find enough room to get that going to help the passing game enough. I thought Ryan made some big-time throws. We didn’t win at the point of scrimmage.” Browne was 21 of 41 for 273 yards with two interceptions.

Washington’s Elijah Brown suffered an interception on the first play from scrimmage, but the Boilermakers were not able to capitalize, which was pretty much the story of the game. The Huskies held a 488-371 advantage in total yards. For Purdue after running for 195 yards in the previous game against Minnesota, Fame Ijeboi was limited to 19 yards on 13 carries. The Boilermakers must now win three of their last five games to become bowl eligible. Purdue recovered the ball on the Washington 10 after a punt took a bounce and hit the back of the Huskies’ Dylan Robinson’s foot. Ijeboi caught a 10-yard TD pass on first down to make it 17-all with 2:35 left before halftime.
