{"id":13464,"date":"2026-10-26T08:59:36","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T08:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bloomingtonnews.online\/?p=13464"},"modified":"2026-10-26T08:59:37","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T08:59:37","slug":"indiana-completes-perfect-exhibition-season-with-a-win-over-western-kentucky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bloomingtonnews.online\/?p=13464","title":{"rendered":"Indiana Completes Perfect Exhibition Season with a Win Over Western Kentucky"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Nick Jenkinson-SCINN Sports Director <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   The Indiana Hoosiers Men&#8217;s Basketball team beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 79-74 in the third and final preseason exhibition game before a crowd of 7,522 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana Sunday Afternoon. Indiana finishes the exhibition schedule with a 3-0 record and will open the regular season on Monday November 2, when they host the Eastern Illinois Panthers at 7 PM inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Halll.  Western Kentucky finishes the preseason 1-1 after beating Bowling Green 65-62 at home on October 20. The Hilltoppers will open the Regular Season on Monday November 2, when they host Morehead State at Home at 6:30 PM Central Time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   The Hoosiers put three in double figures with Bryce Linsday scoring 20 points, Sam Alexis added 16 points, and Jaeden Mustaf scored 11 points. The Hoosiers finished 23-57 from the field for 40%, 10-31 from three-point range for 32% and 23-37 from the free throw line for 62%. Indiana pulled down 49 rebounds,15 assists, 9 blocks, 5 steals and 14 turnovers.  The Hoosiers had 57 points off the bench, 24 points in the paint, 18 fats break points, 12 second chance points and 11 points off turnovers.  Trent Sisley who grew up an hour East of Evansville in Santa Claus played 8 minutes hitting his only shot attempt from downtown and went 2&#8211;3 from the free throw line for 5 points along with a rebound and turnovers.  Sisley received the biggest response from the crowd of mainly Indiana Fans every time he was introduced or he scored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   Tegan Moore led Western Kentucky with 30 points.  Moore went 8-22 from the field, 4-10 from three-point range and 10-11 from the free throw line along with 4 rebounds, a steal and 2 turnovers. Armelo Boone added 13 points, and Sharron Young added 10 points. The Hilltoppers finished 24-65 from the field for 36%, 8-20 from three-point range for 40% and 18-25 from the free throw line for 72%. Western Kentucky pulled down 39 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals, 2 blocks and 13 turnovers. The Hilltoppers had 28 points in the paint, 20 points off turnovers, 17 bench points and 8 second chance points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   The game was tied 9 times and had 6 lead changes. Western Kentucky led 37-35 at halftime when Tegan Moore with a half court three at the buzzer. Indiana outscored the Hilltoppers 44-37 in the second half. The Hoosiers relied on freshmen Trevor Manhertz, Prince-Alexander Moody, and Vaughn Karvala down the stretch along with veterans Sam Alexis and Bryce Lindsay. Specifically, IU fell behind by 11 with 14 minutes remaining and used that lineup to rally\u00a0and get the win.  &#8220;I&#8217;m happy with the win,&#8221; coach Darian DeVries told Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer during the post-game radio show. &#8220;I&#8217;m glad to see the guys competing down the stretch and making some winning plays, but certainly disappointed in some of the areas we thought we were making progress in.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   Indiana had a plan coming into this game of getting the freshman more playing team and still expecting to win the game. &#8220;Our plan coming into the game, besides winning, was to make sure we got the freshmen some good minutes in the second half,&#8221; DeVries told Fischer. &#8220;They came in, played hard and did their jobs. They gave us a good lift and some great energy. Vaughn was really productive. Prince gave us some good defensive energy and played with enthusiasm. Trevor had a big three.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>    Western Kentucky was not afraid of the Size that Indiana with the Seven Foot Duo of Aiden Sherrell and Samet Yigitoglu. Sherrell was played 19 minutes going 1-3 from the field all on three pointers with 5 rebounds along with an assist and block. Yititolglu played 18 minutes missing his only shot attempt from the field and was 1-3 from the free throw line along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. &#8220;They flat out played harder than we did,&#8221; DeVries told Fischer. &#8220;We struggled for a long time. We put them on the free throw line too much. They offensive rebounded on us. That can&#8217;t be something we allow to happen. And with the turnovers, their pressure got us on our heels.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>   The Hilltoppers surged to a 51-40 lead early in the second half as IU went young with Manhertz, Moody, and Karvala. Forward Trent Sisley&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/iuhoosiers.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/trent-sisley\/20207\">s<\/a> 3-pointer, then one by Moody, helped restore Hoosier momentum. A Manhertz 3-pointer drew IU within 57-54 with eight minutes left.  Moody&#8217;s second 3-pointer tied it at 63-63 with 5:30 left. Lindsay&#8217;s fourth 3-pointer produced a 68-68 tie. Alexis hit a pair of free throws. Lindsay followed with a layup. Manhertz hit a free throw for a 73-68 IU lead with 98 seconds left.  Karvala added a rebound basket and then a pair of free throws. Alexis scored. It was enough for a Hoosier victory. <br>&#8220;It was a great experience for us,&#8221; DeVries told Fischer. &#8220;I&#8217;m excited to see those freshmen be in that situation and find a way to win.  &#8220;This is a big week of practice. There is plenty of stuff for us to grab their attention.
