The Indiana Hoosiers will look to start the season 2-0 when they host the Southern Illinois Salukis this evening at 7 PM inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with the game streaming on Big Ten Network Plus.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoosiers handled Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday Night 79-50 inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers jumped out to a 14-2 lead with 2:58 left in the first quarter and led 14-5 after ten minutes. 21 of the Hoosiers points came from the three-point line as FGCU made 1 triple in the first half. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hoosiers opened the second half with 15-0 run putting up their best quarter of the night shooting 54% from the field and led 53-28 going into the fourth quarter. Indiana played all 13 players as 11 scored including Sydney Fenn and Ashlynn Anderson who scored their first career points and for Fenn it was the first time she had played since she stepped on campus after missing the last two seasons due to knee injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zania Socka-Nguemen led the Hoosiers with 13 points, Alisa Williams added 12 points in 13 minutes off the bench. Lenee Beaumont scored 9 of her 10 points in the second half as eight Hoosiers scored five points or more. The Hoosiers out rebounded the Eagles 47-31. The Hoosiers had a balance attack with Jessica Petrie, Malia Samuels and Kenzie Hare all scored 8 points apiece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All five freshman made their first colligate appearance with Addy Nyemcheck scoring 7 points. Camille Pangonis and GiGi Battle dis not score as the Hoosiers are 43-12 all-time in season openers and have won 14 in a row dating back to 2013. Florida Gulf Coast is the preseason favorite in the Atlantic-Sun conference as the Hoosiers as they always do under Teri Moren pride themselves on defense and they hope to keep that going all season long. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Southern Illinois is 0-1 on the season after a home loss to Illinois-Springfield Tuesday Night. Kynnedi Davis led SIU with 14 points off the bench and Shakara McCline scored 13 points along with 9 points and 11 rebounds from Kayla Coooer. All 11 Salukis scored as they forced 27 Illinois Springfield Turnovers while committing 23. The Salukis were 26-65 from the field for 40%, 1-10 from three-point range for 10% and 17-28 from the free throw line for 61%. SIU had 40 rebounds, 15 steals 11 assists, and 6 blocks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The game was tight throughout as SIU led 22-20 at the end of the first quarter. Illinois-Springfield outscored the Salukis 22-20 in the second quarter to go to the locker room tied 36-36. Both teams scored 18 points the third quarter to head into the final Ten minutes tied at 54-54. The Prairie Stars outscored the Salukis 21-16 in the fourth quarter.to give the Division II Prairie Stars the win.
Southern Illinois committed 33 fouls and Illinois-Springfield went 23-37 form the free throw line with Kayla Rice leading the way for the Prairie Stars with 30 points in the first meeting between the two teams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Salukis have a 14-player roster that 6 players from the State of Illinois, along with Texas, Mississippi, Nebraska, Michigan, Missouri and Spain. There are 6 Seniors, 4 Juniors and 4 Freshman for fifth year Head Coach Kelly Bond-White who is 58-96 in Carbondale. Bond-White played at the University of Illinois from 1994-98 appearing in 77 games averaging 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This will be the 14th meeting between the Hoosiers and the Salukis as the Hoosiers are 10-3 and 7-0 all time in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and have won the last five matchups. The last time these two programs met on the hardwood was December 23, 2021, when Indiana won 70-37.
