With the win, Indiana will face No. 1 Seed Northwestern on Friday in the Semifinal.

Indiana and Rutgers were in a defensive battle to open the game and through the majority of the first quarter as much of the possession of the ball stayed in the middle of the field. Rutgers took the first shot of the game when Olivia Stazi shot with under a minute left in the first period before Sadie Canelli logged her first save of the day. Indiana defended Rutgers’ first penalty corner well in the 21st minute, not allowing any clean shot opportunities and forcing a shot going wide by Sophie Kuiper. With Rutgers pushing the ball on an open break in the 27th minute, Javi Baeza made up ground to clear the ball out of bounds and prevent any mor Scarlet Knight momentum.

In the 32nd minute, Indiana earned the first of back-to-back penalty corners, on the second one, a broken play created a shot opportunity for Agustina Gamonal who found the back of the cage to put Indiana up 1-0. Rutgers’ Talia Schenck evened the score on a goal from a penalty corner and the assist by Anna Cogdell for a 1-1 tie in the 43rd minute. Just a few minutes later, Indiana capitalized with Molly Stutte setting up Inés Garcia Prado for a shot and goal to put Indiana back in the lead, 2-1. Rutgers had two penalty corners in the final 20 seconds but could not convert on either opportunity.

This is Indiana’s first trip to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinal since 2012 and just the fourth in program history (2005, 2009, 2012, 2026). The 10 wins marks the first 10-plus win season since 2021. Four of Indiana’s five shots came in the second half. Gamonal’s goal was her second of the season. Now the Indiana Fever star can add writer to her ever-growing resume with a new children’s book, “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams,” that comes out Tuesday. “I grew up loving to read books,” Clark said in a phone interview with The Associated Press. “My mom was an English major in college. She’s a bookworm, she reads a lot of books, so she helped me a little bit with this.”

It’s a picture book published by Random House Books for Young Readers that’s written in rhyming verse. Clark first thought about not having it rhyme, but she said it just worked better that way. “Everything that you see, I always have a part in,” Clark said of her involvement with the book. “I want people to know I put a lot of time and effort into that.” The book was inspired by a quote that’s on a mirror in her childhood home: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little EXTRA.” The mirror is still in her parents’ house. “It’s something that hopefully they’ll always have for me through life, and I’ll maybe pass along to one of my kids one day,” Clark said. “I don’t think it’s always something you realize or notice when you’re looking in the mirror that it’s something motivational.”

The book focuses on teamwork, perseverance and the love of those around her, including her family, friends and teammates. “I think a lot of it is very true to my story, and the way I was raised,” Clark said. “You know, my career as a basketball player, just doing a little extra and believing in yourself a little extra. You’re going to need a little extra love, or courage.” Clark just finished the third year of her professional career short of her ultimate goal of winning a WNBA championship. Her Fever team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces. Unlike last year when she was recovering from an injury, this year she’s healthy and able to continue to work on improving her game.

Clark remembers when she was a kid her mom would always give her a book for Christmas Eve. That tradition has continued. “It’s obviously changed from picture books to short chapter books to now motivational things or books by coaches or leadership books,” she said. “Inside every book she writes a note. So books have always been a part of my life growing up.” Clark has always done a lot with children. Her foundation supports youth and when she was at Iowa, the young star spent a lot of time at the Iowa Family Children’s Hospital. The 24-year-old Clark even has appeared in a commercial with Sesame Street character Cookie Monster, whom she adored growing up while watching the show. She would love to join Sesame Street for an episode.

Campbell Massey Named CL Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year as Five Taylor Trojans Earn All-League Honors Campbell Massey was named the Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Year, and five players from the No. 14 Taylor University women’s soccer team earned all-league recognition as the CL announced its 2026 individual awards and all-league teams on Tuesday. Massey, Leah McQuade and Meskerem James were selected to the first team, while Eliza Luttrell and Ava Callaway earned honorable mention. The honors follow a regular season in which TU (11-3-3, 5-2-2 CL) matched the highest national ranking in program history at No. 10, earned the program’s highest-ranked win over then-No. 7 Marian and drew at then-No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan. The Trojans have appeared in 12 consecutive national polls dating back to last season. Their four-match CL win streak in October was the program’s first since 2016 and helped TU finish with five league wins, matching its most CL wins recorded in one season over the past decade.

The senior class of Trojans led by Massey, McQuade, James and Luttrell have posted a combined four-year record of 42-15-15. Their 15 losses are the fewest of any four-year stretch in program history, and their .688 winning percentage ranks second all-time. Massey earned first-team honors for the second straight season, and her individual award is the third CL Player of the Year honor in program history, following Molly Drooger (Offensive Player of the Year, 2012) and Katie Wierenga (Midfielder of the Year, 2016). She has played in all 72 matches of her career, enters postseason play with 64 consecutive starts and has 23 career points on 10 goals and three assists.

A model of consistency, Massey did not leave the field in league play while producing a stellar effort at center back. The senior from Loveland, Ohio, played all 810 minutes of TU’s nine CL matches and went the full 90 minutes in 15 of 17 matches overall, anchoring a defense that posted eight shutouts and allowed 17 goals. Massey also ranked second on the team with 32 shots and 20 shots on goal while scoring three goals. Her 35-yard free kick tied Campbellsville in the 81st minute of a 3-2 comeback win, and a second free kick led to the corner that set up the winner. A week later, she scored the game-winner in the league-opening win over Bethel.

McQuade scored the game-winning goal in five of TU’s 11 wins, a career high and the most on the team. The senior forward from Archbold, Ohio, earned her second career all-league honor after leading TU with a career-high 10 goals, along with team highs of 22 points, 41 shots and 21 shots on goal. She opened the season with six goals in the first six matches, earning CL Offensive Player of the Week in September, and converted both of her penalty-kick attempts. McQuade also scored TU’s goal in the 1-1 draw at fourth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan and delivered game-winners at Saint Francis and against Huntington during the Trojans’ four-match league win streak. She has played in all 72 matches of her career, starting 57 of the last 60, and has 27 career goals, eight career assists and 10 career game-winners.

Few players made more of their chances than James, who earned her first career all-league honor with the first-team selection. The senior midfielder from Noblesville, Ind., put eight of her nine shots on goal and scored unassisted goals against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and Huntington. She appeared in all 17 matches and finished with seven points, while her career-best three assists tied for third on the team. Among them was the setup for McQuade’s goal at No. 4 IWU. James’ seven points also equaled her total produced during her sophomore campaign.

Luttrell, who worked her way back from a late-season injury sustained in 2025, was at her best for the league’s decisive stretch. The senior from Naperville, Ill., made her season debut Sept. 9, then scored in four straight CL matches from Oct. 10-24, producing four goals and an assist on 12 shots. The run began at No. 7 Marian, where she assisted on the opening goal and converted a penalty kick for the game-winner on the way to CL Offensive Player of the Week. She added another game-winner at Mount Vernon Nazarene. In 12 appearances, Luttrell finished with 10 points on four goals and two assists, along with 24 shots and 13 shots on goal. It is her second career all-league honor after a first-team selection in 2025. Through 63 career appearances in the Purple & Gray, Luttrell has recorded 56 career points on 20 goals and 16 assists.

Callaway, a junior goalkeeper from Glen Ellyn, Ill., earned her first all-league honor after twice being named CL Defensive Player of the Week. She went 8-3-3 with 46 saves, a 1.13 goals-against average and a .754 save percentage. Callaway played in all eight of TU’s shutouts and went the full 90 in four of them, including back-to-back clean sheets against Mount Vernon Nazarene and Huntington. Her season-high 10 saves came at No. 7 Marian, where she had seven stops by halftime and turned away the potential equalizer chance in the 88th minute to preserve the lead. She also made seven saves in a scoreless draw at Lawrence Tech.

No. 2 Grace, the regular season champion, secured three of the six top honors from the Crossroads League, with Michael Voss being named the CL Coach of the Year, Cassidy Felger taking CL Player-of-the-Year honors and Elaina Clapp being named the CL Newcomer of the Year. The remaining top accolades went to Claire VanZanten of Spring Arbor as the CL Offensive Player of the Year, Sammie King of Marian as the CL Midfielder of the Year and Massey as the CL Defensive Player of the Year. The All-Crossroads League awards are voted on by the CL’s head women’s soccer coaches. No. 14 and fourth-seeded TU hosts No. 6 and fifth-seeded Marian in the CL Tournament quarterfinals tonight at 7 p.m. inside Turner Stadium. The winner will advance to Friday’s semifinal round, with the championship game scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Purdue football ‘pauses’ series with Notre Dame Fans will have to wait to see another edition of the Purdue-Notre Dame football rivalry. The Boilermakers announced Tuesday that a road trip to West Virginia will replace the previously scheduled trip to South Bend for the 2027 season. This effectively “pauses” the in-state rivalry series between the Boilers and Irish, which was originally scheduled to go through 2028. Purdue’s Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tommy McClelland said in a release that, “The tradition-rich rivalry of Purdue and Notre Dame, a matchup that has been played on and off 90 times in program history, will be reevaluated for potential addition to future schedules.”

Notre Dame subsequently added a home-and-home series with Illinois, which leaves Purdue with an open non-conference date for the 2028 schedule. The date for Purdue’s game against West Virginia is still to be determined. The Boilers will also play UAlbany and Miami (Ohio) for their non-conference games. The Boilers most recently hosted the Fighting Irish in Ross-Ade Stadium at the end of September, ultimately losing 49-10. Notre Dame has won every game against Purdue dating back to 2008. The two teams began their rivalry in 1896 when the Boilers won 28-22 in South Bend. Since then, Notre Dame’s won 60 games compared to Purdue’s 25.
