The CFP Committee announced the rankings live on Tuesday evening on ESPN. If the Hoosiers can finish No. 4 or better, they’ll get a first-round bye. In the first rankings IU would play the winner of Alabama and Boise State in the quarterfinals. The Hoosiers are currently the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten. Also in the initial bracket from the league is No. 8 UCLA. Ohio State is No. 12, but bumped out by the requirement to have a Group of Six conference team. No. 4 Indiana (8-1) returns to the field on Nov. 14 against USC. The Trojans are ranked No. 20 in the first CFP rankings.

RANK

TEAM

OVERALL RECORD

1.

Miami

8-0

2.

Georgia

7-1

3.

Utah

8-0

4.

Indiana

8-1

5.

Alabama

6-2

6.

Kentucky

7-1

7.

Texas

6-2

8.

UCLA

8-0

9.

BYU

7-1

10.

Ole Miss

6-2

11.

Notre Dame

7-1

12.

Ohio State

6-2

13.

Tennessee

6-2

14.

LSU

6-2

15.

Texas Tech

7-1

16.

Wake Forest

7-1

17.

Houston

6-2

18.

Missouri

6-2

19.

Iowa

6-2

20.

Southern California

7-2

21.

South Carolina

5-3

22.

Arizona

6-2

23.

Oregon

5-3

24.

Florida

5-3

25.

Boise State

7-1

Indiana University Women’s Volleyball Hosts Iowa and Illinois The stretch run of the 2026 regular season will see the Indiana volleyball team (13-8, 6-6 Big Ten) return home for four of its final five matches. The Hoosiers have played five of six matches away from Bloomington over the last three weeks but will welcome Iowa (Nov. 6) and Illinois (Nov. 8) to Wilkinson Hall this weekend for a pair of crucial conference matches. IU was finally on the right end of a long five-set match in Big Ten play when it reverse swept No. 25 Michigan State last Friday (Oct. 30) evening in East Lansing. After dropping five-set contests to ranked foes in Wisconsin and Oregon, IU picked up another resume-building victory against the Spartans. If IU can win its two games this weekend, it will ensure itself a winning season in consecutive years for the first time since 1999-2000.

Fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry has been a big spark for the Hoosiers over the last two weeks. She’s had at least five blocks in four of her previous five matches. That includes a brilliant 10-kill, nine-block performance in the comeback win over Michigan State. Her counterpart in the middle, second-year Victoria Gray, is hitting .445 with 1.72 kills per set in conference play this year.Wilkinson Hall has been a safe haven for the Hoosiers in recent memory but IU will be looking to snap a three-match losing streak on its home floor. A win over Iowa would ensure itself a spot in this month’s Big Ten Tournament. A pair of wins in Bloomington would be critical in inching closer to a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. First serve on Friday (Iowa) is set for 7 p.m. Sunday’s match will start at 2 p.m.

A Win over Iowa Would Be the fifth-straight win over Iowa at Wilkinson Hall- Be the 14th win of the season and the seventh in conference play. A win over Illinois would Be the fourth-straight win over Illinois at Wilkinson Hall- Be the first time in history that IU has won three straight against Illinois. A win over Both would Be back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over 20 years- Be the fifth-straight season with at least eight Big Ten wins.

IU will play four of its final five regular season games at Wilkinson Hall in November. The Hoosiers are looking to break a three-match home losing streak beginning this weekend. Since 2022, IU is 6-0 in home games against Iowa and Illinois. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic became the 12th player in program history to reach 2,000 career assists following her 41-assist performance against Michigan last Saturday. In her career, the Serbian is averaging 10.59 assists per set. She has 20 career matches with 40-or-more assists.

Since the 2022 campaign (four-plus years), Indiana has racked up 90 wins under head coach Steve Aird. That includes at least 15 wins in each full season during that stretch. IU can reach that mark for the fifth-straight year in 2026 with a pair of wins this weekend. After putting up 14 blocks last weekend, fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry is up to 399 blocks in her collegiate career. She needs one more to reach that illustrious 400 block mark as a college player. She would be the 20th active player in NCAA division one to hit the threshold. Second year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager reached double-digit kills in a pair of matches against Ohio State and Penn State last week. She’s had at least 10 kills in 24 of her 32-career Big Ten matches. That includes 10 of IU’s 12 conference games this season.

The Hoosiers have been one of the best blocking teams in the conference this year. During Big Ten play, IU is at 2.64 blocks per set (119.0 total). That includes back-to-back 12-block performances against Michigan State and Michigan on the road last weekend. Over the last four games, IU’s middle blockers have contributed at an elite rate on the offensive end. Mainly second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray and fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry are combining for 3.88 kills per set since the Ohio State match. They had 19 total against Michigan on Saturday. If IU can win both matches this weekend, it would achieve back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in over 20 years. The last time IU finished with more wins than losses in consecutive seasons was 1999-2000. The Hoosiers went 25-8 last year and have a 13-8 record this campaign. On the same note, IU is two conference wins away from reaching at least eight for the fifth-straight season. The Hoosiers haven’t won at least eight Big Ten matches in fifth-straight seasons since a run of 7-straight years between 1984 and 1990. Entering the weekend, IU has won 48 Big Ten matches since 2022.

Scouting the Opponent Iowa (13-13, 2-10 Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have played the most volleyball of any Big Ten team this season after playing 14 matches in the non-conference schedule. An important win over UCLA highlights a 2-10 league record this year. The Hawkeyes are 2-7 on the road this year, including a win at Iowa State. • Iowa has been well known for running its middle blockers on offense and will keep doing that this weekend. Hannah Whittingstall leads all players with 247 kills. Liv Mogridge, who hits on the left and in the middle, is second with 235 kills. Setter Jenna Meitzler averages 10.54 kills per set. Illinois (16-7, 8-4 Big Ten). The Hawkeyes are one of three legacy Big Ten teams (Michigan, Northwestern) that IU has a winning record against. It’s been back-and-forth over the years, but IU has won four of the last six meetings. The Hoosiers have won four-straight meetings in Bloomington.

Illinois has enjoyed a well-balanced attack this year to get off to an 8-4 start in Big Ten play. Six different players are averaging at least 1.90 kills per set. That’s led by opposite hitter Paityn Chapman (3.47 per set). Middle blocker Kristina Starostenko (2.11 kills per set) is hitting .429 this season. • Setter Kenna Phelan has had most of the run this season (10.51 assists per set) but Sophi Randall has gotten into the mix in recent matches. Libero Talita Goncalves (3.92 digs per set) has helped improve an Illinois defense that struggled last season. Illinois has long dominated the all-time series. Until 2022, IU hadn’t won against the Fighting Illini since the 2010 season. The Hoosiers have won four of the last six meetings including three-straight matches at Wilkinson Hall. • The last three games in this series have been sweeps including back-to-back wins in 2024 (Bloomington) and 2025 (Champaign) for the Hoosiers.

Tobi Osunsanmi Tabbed Semifinalist for Lombardi Award Fifth-year defensive lineman Tobi Osunsanmi has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award after one of the most productive starts to a season by an Indiana defender in program history. The Wichita, Kansas, native owns 34 tackles on the season with 15.5 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks. He has also forced one fumble and blocked a punt. His 10.0 sacks on the season rank tied for No. 5 on the single season charts and is just 1.0 sack shy of the No. 3 spot. He is just 1.5 tackles for loss away from joining the single-season top-10, as well. With a tackle for loss in each of the first nine games of the season, Osunsanmi’s streak sits tied for No. 4 on the school’s single-season list and his streak of eight straight games with a sack is the longest in program history.

Selected from the Committee’s 64-player midseason watchlist, these semifinalists represent programs across the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 and have distinguished themselves through their leadership, strength, and impact on and off the field. Now in its 53rd year, the Lombardi Award™ has been presented annually in Houston, Texas, since its inception in 1970. This year’s award ceremony will take place on December 9, 2026, with proceeds from gala sponsorships and table/ticket sales benefiting cancer research and supporting families and patients affected by the disease. The Lombardi Award™ honors coach Vince Lombardi and represents more than the distinction involved; it honors players who best exemplify Lombardi’s enduring principles of leadership, courage, and discipline. The 2026 semifinalists have stood out for their exceptional ability in their positions, perseverance, and impact on their teams, continuing a legacy that inspires future generations of athletes.

Eight Former Indiana University Football Hoosiers See the Field in Week 8 of the National Football League Regular Season Week 8 of the NFL season has wrapped up for plenty of former Hoosiers. With just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter following a UMass field goal, the Cardinals (3-6, 2-3 MAC) marched 75 yards and sent the game to overtime on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Keldric Luster. Ball State struck first in overtime with Jalen Bonds’ second rushing touchdown of the night, but a missed extra point gave the Minutemen (5-4, 2-3 MAC) an opportunity to respond. The Minutemen capitalized with a 13-yard touchdown run and successful extra-point attempt to seal the game.

Ball State took its final lead of regulation in the third quarter when Bonds broke through the UMass defense for a 42-yard rushing touchdown, his second scoring run of more than 40 yards this season. Bonds recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his collegiate career, finishing with 132 yards on 17 carries. The Cardinals opened the evening with a score as Jamarion McDougle hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Luster. The quarterback finished the night with 182 passing yards, completing 17 passes and throwing one touchdown. With Luster leading the offense, Ball State surpassed 350 yards of total offense in a fifth straight game, for the first time since 2020.

The contest remained close throughout the first half as penalties hindered Ball State, with the Cardinals committing eight before halftime. Ball State was penalized on three consecutive UMass plays in the second quarter, giving the Minutemen 30 yards and helping them tie the game at 7. Late in the first half, Brody Boehm connected on a 22-yard field goal to give the Cardinals a three-point advantage. However, UMass needed just 14 seconds to move 64 yards down the field and take its first lead heading into halftime. Defensively, Ball State forced two fumbles, one each by Gabe Aramboles and Mikeah Webster. Stu Smith led the Cardinals with nine tackles, followed by Cincear Lewis and Webster with seven apiece. Ball State continues midweek MACtion on Nov. 11 when it hosts Buffalo at Scheumann Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with the game airing on ESPN2 and WLBC 104.1 FM.

Andrew Nembhard’s 22 leads the Indiana Pacers in win over the Memphis Grizzlies Andrew Nembhard scored 22 points, Aaron Nesmith had 16, including a 3-pointer in the closing seconds, and the Indiana Pacers beat the Memphis Grizzles 107-103 on Wednesday night. The Grizzlies had pulled within 104-103 on Ty Jerome’s floater with 28.2 seconds left, but Nesmith connected on the long-range jumper from the right corner to seal the win and snap Indiana’s five-game losing streak. Pascal Siakam finished with 20 points, and Quenton Jackson scored 13 points.

Jerome and Cedric Coward finished with 23 points each as Memphis lost its second straight after starting the season with six consecutive wins. Zach Edey had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Edey’s former Purdue teammate Braden Smith had 10 points and five assists for the Pacers. Memphis held a 91-86 lead with 6:19 left, but Indiana scored eight straight points capped by a pair of breakaway dunks by Obi Toppin. The Pacers, who have dealt with a spate of injuries including to star guard Tyrese Haliburton, have struggled over the last 10 days. In Monday’s 108-104 loss to Atlanta, the Pacers used a rotation of six players, all of whom scored in double figures. Against the Grizzlies, starters Siakam, Andrew Nembhard and Nesmith returned to the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies benefiting from an early schedule that included some of the lower teams in the NBA, were the league’s last undefeated team before an overtime loss to New Orleans 135-134 on Monday night. While the Grizzlies shot well, the Pacers’ active-hands defense led to eight Memphis turnovers in the first quarter and a dozen in the half leading to 16 points for Indiana. That set the stage for Indiana to carry a 54-52 lead into halftime. The teams traded leads through the midway point of the fourth, when the Pacers put the game away. Neither team led by double digits.
