Indiana and Ball State Women’s Soccer play to scoreless draw<\/strong>
Indiana Women’s Soccer played Ball State to 0-0 draw Thursday evening on the practice field next to Bill Armstrong Stadium due to poor field conditions on the main field. It’s the third straight game the Hoosiers have had a goalless draw after road games at West Virginia and Virginia Tech to start the season. Jamie Gerstenberg gets her 3rd shutout of the season and made just 1 save. The sophomore from Germany had 9 shutouts last year in 23 games giving up 8 goals and made 23 saves a season ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoosiers had 12 shots, 2 shots on goal, 10 fouls and 11 corner kicks. Ball State had 6 shots, 1 shot on goal, 7 fouls and 5 corner kicks. Ball State goalkeeper Bethany Moser made 2 saves. Ball State is 0-1-2 on the season while the Hoosiers are 0-0-3. Indiana will host Indiana State next Thursday night at 8pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week 2 Of high school football season kicks off tonight <\/strong>
Its week 2 of the Indiana High School Football Regular Season as Edgewood is home for the second straight week while Bloomington North and Bloomington South hit the road. The Mustangs and Panthers won last week while the Cougars lost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edgewood hosts Monrovia at 7pm. Edgewood beat Mitchell 38-16 in game that originally was to be played at Mitchell but was moved to Edgewood because Mitchell’s new turf field was not completed in time. Monrovia beat Indianapolis Ritter 40-12 last week as both teams come in 1-0. Monrovia has won the last two meetings winning 48-12 last season and 20-8 in 2020. Edgewood beat the Bulldogs 14-7 in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomington North travels to Bedford North Lawrence at 7 pm. Bloomington North lost to Mooresville 38-13 and top player Cody Mikulich is for the next 3-4 weeks with a knee sprain and dislocated elbow after the suffered the injury in the opening game. Bedford North Lawrence lost at home to Martinsville 28-14. The Cougars have won the last three meetings with the Stars. BNL won 55-38 in 2018 in Bedford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomington South travels to Martinsville at 7pm in a big rivalry game. The Panthers beat New Albany 34-14 last week while Martinsville beat Bedford North Lawrence 28-14 in Bedford. Bloomington South is looking for its third straight win over Martinsville in the series. South won 45-20 last year and 26-17 in 2020. Martinsville beat the Panthers 22-6 in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indianapolis Colts host Tampa Bay Buccaneers in final preseason game <\/strong>
The Indianapolis Colts Host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third and final NFL preseason game Saturday Night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at 7:30 pm. Both Teams have lost their first two preseason games. The Colts have lost by a combined four points against the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions. Tampa Bay lost to the Miami Dolphins 26-24 and the Tennessee Titans 13-3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colts punter\u00a0Rigoberto Sanchez\u00a0suffered a torn Achilles in Tuesday’s practice, the team announced Wednesday. The injury will likely keep him out for the entire 2022 season. The Colts moved quickly to find a possible replacement, signing punter\u00a0Matt Haack\u00a0on Thursday. Haack, a five-year veteran, was released by the\u00a0Buffalo Bills\u00a0earlier this week. Colts defensive end\u00a0<\/strong>Kwity Paye suffered a knee injury in Wednesday’s practice, the team’s initial belief is that it is not serious. Paye is undergoing further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury. Sanchez suffered the injury while running wind sprints at the conclusion of Tuesday’s practice. Further testing showed that his achilles tendon was torn. The Colts have used Sanchez as a punter and kickoff specialist since he joined the club as an undrafted free agent in 2017. Sanchez signed a four-year extension in 2019 after establishing himself as one of the top players at his position. The Colts have implemented wind sprints after some of their practices during this training camp to supplement players’ conditioning. The team has generally shortened its workouts this season and was wrapping up a 90-minute practice when Sanchez sustained the injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Brady is expected to play Saturday for the first time this season. Brady, who returned this week from an 11-day absence to tend to “personal issues,” is healthy and practiced in full Thursday, as well as Monday and Tuesday, with a veteran day on Wednesday. He took his usual number of reps and looked strong and focused. This is the first time he’s lined up with wide receiver Julio Jones in a game and the first time he’ll stand behind a remade interior offensive line featuring second-year center Robert Hainsey and rookie left guard Luke Goedeke in live action. When healthy, Brady has participated in at least one preseason game every year since he was drafted in 2000. The only preseason he did not take part in was in 2008 when he was a member of the New England Patriots and was dealing with foot and ankle injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana Fever’s NaLyssa Smith and Queen Egbo named WNBA All-Rookie Team <\/strong>
The WNBA announced Thursday Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith and center Queen Egbo were both named to the 2022 All-Rookie Team. Smith also earned recognition from the Associated Press All-Rookie Team on August 16. Smith and Egbo are joined on this year’s WNBA All-Rookie Team by Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream), Shakira Austin (Washington Mystics) and Rebekah Gardner (Chicago Sky). The two rookies from Baylor are the seventh and eighth Fever players to make the WNBA All-Rookie Team, joining Julie Allemand (2020), Teaira McCowan (2019), Kelsey Mitchell (2018), Tiffany Mitchell (2016), Natalie Achonwa (2015), and Tan White (2005).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smith, the No. 2 overall pick this season, started all 32 games played during the 2022 campaign and averaged 13.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and shot 41.9 percent from the field. Smith was one of seven players in the WNBA to average at least 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and one assist per game in 2022. She was the leading rebounder among rookies and sixth in the WNBA in rebounds per game, second among rookies in scoring average and averaged the second most minutes played among first-year players. Smith finished with eight double-doubles, while the rest of the 2022 WNBA rookie class only combined for nine such performances during the regular season. Smith also earned an invitation to the WNBA Skills Challenge, as part of WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As rookies, Smith and Egbo also led the greatest rebounding game in franchise history. Smith finished with a career-high 17 rebounds and Egbo pulled down a personal-best 14 boards as the Fever tallied 57 rebounds as a team in the 92-86 overtime victory at the New York Liberty on May 13. The 31 combined rebounds are the most rebounds corralled by a pair of rookies on the same team in a game in WNBA history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Egbo was selected by Indiana with the No. 10 overall pick this season and averaged 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 21.8 minutes in 33 games played with 31 starting appearances. Among rookies, the 6-foot-4 center was the fifth best scorer, second leading rebounder and led all first-year players in blocks per game. Egbo was fifth in the entire WNBA in blocks per game and led the Fever in blocked shots in 21 of her 33 games played this season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rochester Ends Indians Four Game Winning Streak<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indianapolis Indians had their four-game winning streak snapped as they were defeated by the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field, 3-1. With an errorless nine innings, the Indians (59-58) now own the longest streak without an error in Minor League Baseball this season at 11 games. It also ties the team\u2019s 2006 11-game errorless streak as its longest since 2005. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a one-out double by Lucius Fox and run-scoring groundout by John Nogowski in the top of the first inning, Indians starter Jerad Eickhoff stranded runners in scoring position and held the Red Wings (54-65) to just one additional hit through his remaining 4.0 Innings. The Indians (59-58) knotted the game at one run apiece in the fourth inning following a one-out double by Diego Castillo. With two outs, Cal Mitchell roped a run-scoring single to extend his RBI streak to four consecutive games. Mitchell and Mason Martin led the Indians\u2019 offense with two hits each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rochester recorded its first hit since the third inning in the eighth to plate two runs and take a 3-1 lead. Andrew Stevenson led off the frame with a single and was driven in one batter later on a Lucius Fox RBI knock off Nick Mears (L, 0-1). After Fox swiped both second and third base \u2013 extending the Red Wings\u2019 total to six on the day \u2013 he scored on another RBI groundout by Nogowski. Red Wings starter Logan Verrett (W, 7-7) fanned six batters over 7.0 innings. Connor Sadzeck and Jordan Weems (S, 15) each struck out the side in the final two frames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
