13 year-old middle school student arrested after bringing loaded gun on school bus<\/strong>
The motive is not yet known, nor is the access to to the weapon, although a Batchelor Middle School Student is under arrest for being in possession of a loaded firearm on a school bus full of other children on Tuesday morning. SCINN will continue to provide additional information about this incident, as the investigation continues, including the results into our questioning on how this child gained access to this weapon, and whether or not the gun’s owner can and should be charged with a crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is currently know, comes in statements from the Administration of Batchelor Middle School, the MCCSC Spokesperson, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statement from MCSD (shared by The Bloomingtonian)<\/span>
\u201cOn [9\/13\/2022], the MCSO was dispatched to 900 W. Gordon Pike in reference to a student bringing a loaded firearm to school, the gun was confiscated prior to our arrival by SRO\u2019s on scene.\u00a0 Deputies responded to the school and took possession of a loaded Taurus 9mm fire arm.\u00a0 Deputy\u2019s learned that a 13 year old male juvenile was on a school bus this morning and removed the firearm from his backpack and show it to other people on the bus.\u00a0 A parent was notified who then called the school. Once the bus arrived at the school SRO\u2019s located the firearm in the juvenile\u2019s backpack and called the Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputies completed interviews and collected the firearm.  The juvenile was transported to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center(via a court order) for the following charge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I.C. 35-47-9-2: Possession of a firearm on school property or a school bus level 6 felony.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“MCCSC Safety Protocols Implemented in Response to Anonymous Tip<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Bloomington, IN) On the morning of September 13, 2022, Monroe County Community School Corporation Administration received a tip that Batchelor Middle School student riding a school bus was in possession of a firearm. School administration and school resource officers immediately enacted safety procedures and quickly detained the student who was en route to school. The student was found to be in possession of a firearm. The student was detained before the student entered the school building. The Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Department assisted. The student has been arrested and is facing a one-year expulsion in accordance with Indiana State Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the incident was reviewed, school officials determined that the middle school student completed Route Bus # 141, a route from student bus stops to Bloomington High School South (BHSS), where the student then transferred to School Bus Route #155, a shuttle route from BHSS to Batchelor Middle School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Batchelor Middle School remains open on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 with enhanced security precautions in place. Batchelor Middle School Principal, Eric Gilpin, sent a letter to all Batchelor Middle school families. Additionally, BHSS and Batchelor Middle School administrators called the families of students who ride Bus Route #155 and\/or Bus Route #141.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of School Safety, Dr. Chris Finley, stated, \u201cI want to thank the tip provider who saw something and said something, as well as the school resource officers, school administration and police officers who worked quickly to implement and accurately follow safety protocols.\u201d

The incident remains under investigation, and no further details can be provided at this time. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attorney General Todd Rokita leads 19-state\u00a0coalition against Biden\u2019s “transgender extremism<\/strong>“
Attorney General Todd Rokita is leading a 19-state coalition opposing what he describes as a Biden Administration “radical rewrite of Title IX rules in a manner that assaults the rights of women and the authority of parents.” Rokita believes that Biden\u2019s proposals diminish women\u2019s rights by redefining \u201csex\u201d to mean \u201cgender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTitle IX was passed 50 years ago to ensure equal opportunities for women,\u201d Attorney General Rokita said. \u201cBut we cannot effectively protect women\u2019s rights if we refuse to acknowledge that there are, in fact, two biologically distinct sexes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attorney General Rokita expressed his strong concerns in a letter to U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardon, in which he noted Title IX\u2019s very purpose has been\u00a0to prevent discrimination against girls and women, and encourage their increased participation in middle\u00a0school, high school, and college athletics. Now, Rokita believes the Biden administration seeks to codify anti-woman prejudice and undo the very protections for which Title IX was created. Rokita also believes that Biden\u2019s proposed Title IX changes would usurp parents\u2019 authority by allowing school officials to address children\u2019s \u201cgender identity\u201d issues without parents\u2019 knowledge or consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rokita has stated that without notifying students\u2019 parents or obtaining parents\u2019 agreement, school officials under the proposed new rules could provide counseling to children about gender identity issues. Further, he says that without any parental involvement, schools would be expected to\u00a0allow children to choose gender identities different from their actual biological sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gathering scheduled to protest Indiana abortion laws<\/strong>
On Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 5:30, hours before a near-total abortion\u00a0ban goes into effect in Indiana, a gathering is planned at the Monroe County Courthouse, described as a ‘mourning the loss of reproductive freedoms’. Vigil speakers are said to include State Senator Shelli Yoder, Mayor John Hamilton, and Mayor Tom McDermott, a candidate for U.S. Senate, among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a released statement, the event is organized by a group calling themselves Hoosier Jews for Choice, as well as Monroe County NOW; and, co-sponsored by NAPAWF-IN, All Options Pregnancy Resource Center, Monroe County Women\u2019s Commission, City of Bloomington-Mayor\u2019s Office, Enough is Enough, B-town Repro Rights, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
