It was the first ever meeting between the two teams.\u00a0The game saw eight lead changes early, with Vermont\u2019s last lead 12-11 with 2:55 left in the first quarter. Indiana controlled the game with 8-2 run to end the first quarter leading 20-13. The Hoosiers led 42-27 at half, led 66-38 at the end third quarter, and the Hoosiers finished the game 20-11 in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hoosiers were led by Freshman Yarden Garzon with 19 Points going for 7-12 from the field and 5-8 from three-point range. Garzon gets her first career start in her first game at IU and the 6-3 guard from Israel has impressed her teammates and that is testament to playing overseas for a long time. \u201cThe way she carries herself on and off the court speaks to who she is\u201d said Mackenzie Holmes after the game. \u201cShe always keeps her head up and never gets down,\u201d Holmes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe see what [Garzon] does in practice every day and we have high standards here, and a lot of new terminology and [our new players] have responded well to it,\u201d said All-American Guard Grace Berger, after the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holmes had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and block Vermont\u2019s first shot of the game. Berger added 14 points and scored seven points for the Hoosiers. Sara Scalia scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers. The Hoosiers shot 49% from the field, 12-25 from three-point range for 48%, and 10-15 from the free throw line for 66%. IU pulled down 39 Rebounds, 18 assists, 11 steals, 5 blocks, and 11 turnovers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IU Head Coach Teri Moren was pleased to get this first game out of the way. \u201cGood first win to get under our belt but we still have work to do defensively especially by our new kids,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vermont was led by Greenwood Indiana native Emma Utterback with 19 points. The Center Grove Graduate scored 10 points in the first 11 minutes of the game and had 12 points in the first half. Zionsville HS Graduate Delaney Richason scored 8 points in which she hit two three pointers, scoring the first six point for the Catamounts in the game as the two Indiana natives scored the first 16 points of the game for Vermont. Catherine Gilwee scores the first Vermont basket that was not by native Hoosier at 6:34 mark before halftime and she finished the game with 11 points. Vermont shot 35% from the field, 5-12 from three-point range for 41%, and 8-14 from the free throw line for 57%. The Catamounts pulled down 30 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 steals, 2 blocks, and committed 23 turnovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indiana will return to action this Friday when they host the UMass Lowell Riverhawks at 7pm in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. UMass Lowell is 0-1 on the season after falling 81-53 Monday evening at Boston College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana University Men&#8217;s Soccer travels to Maryland for Big Ten Tournament Semifinal <\/strong>                                                                 <br>One match removed from a dramatic encounter on the final day of the regular season, Indiana men\u2019s soccer (9-3-6, 3-1-4 B1G) and Maryland (10-2-5, 4-0-4 B1G) will meet again in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal round Wednesday tonight on Ludwig Field in College Park.  The match will be televised on Big Ten Network with kickoff set for 8pm. Fans can also stream the match at\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/live\">foxsports.com\/live<\/a>. The winner of this match will face the winner of the other semifinal between third seed Ohio State and second seed Rutgers which will kick off at 6pm on the Big Ten Network. The Championship Game is Sunday at Noon at the highest remaining seed and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indiana is playing in its 10th consecutive Big Ten Tournament semifinal. The Hoosiers are looking to advance to the championship match for a sixth straight season.  Both teams are undefeated in their last four matches.  IU is 3-3-1 against ranked opponents this season. Redshirt senior Ryan Wittenbrink has scored go-ahead goals in back-to-back matches and has tallied three goal contributions in his last three games played (two goals, one assist).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maryland comes into the match with a 10-2-5 record and a 4-0-4 mark in Big Ten Conference play. Its last result was a 1-0 win over Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal.  The Terrapins are led by 30th-year head coach Sasho Cirovski, who has compiled a 424-162-64 record at Maryland and a 450-175-71 career record over 32 seasons as a head coach.  Six Terps have tallied at least 10 points this season, led by senior midfielder Malcolm Johnston\u2019s 15. Johnston is also tied for the team-high in goals with junior forward Stefan Copetti, with each player tallying five scores. Redshirt senior defender Nick Richardson and redshirt sophomore midfielder Joshua Bolma lead the team with seven assists apiece.<br><br>Indiana has the slight better of the all-time series, winning six matches to Maryland\u2019s five, but the two teams have tied eight times. Tonight, will mark the fifth Big Ten Tournament meeting between the Hoosiers and Terps, with IU advancing in three of those instances.  IU and Maryland have met in the final match of the regular season each of the last three campaigns, going 1-1-1 in those matchups. This season, IU led 1-0 from a 25th minute goal and held the Terrapins scoreless into the 87th minute before they equalized. In that moment, the Hoosiers flipped from the Big Ten Co-Champions to the No. 4 seed in the tournament as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trayce Jackson-Davis named Sporting News All-American <\/strong>                                                                                                             <br>Indiana senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis\u00a0was named to the Sporting News 2022-23 Preseason College Basketball All-American First Team, the publication announced on Tuesday morning. Jackson-Davis was previously honored as a Preseason All-American by the Blue-Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, College Hoops Today, The Almanac, CBS Sports, The Athletic, and the Associated Press. Jackson-Davis was also named to the NABC Player of the Year Watch List, Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, and selected to the Karl Malone Award Watch List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jackson-Davis ranks 13th all-time at IU in scoring (1,603), 19th in scoring average (16.1), ninth in rebounds (804), seventh in blocked shots (179), and seventh in field goal percentage (55.8%). He was named a third-team All-American as a sophomore, has earned all-district honors each of the last two seasons, and has been a third team, first-team and second-team All-Big Ten choice in his first three campaigns with the Hoosiers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former Mr. Basketball winner ranked among the Big Ten leaders in points per game (18.3; 6th in the Big Ten), rebounds per game (8.1; 6th), field goal percentage (58.9%; 4th), free throws made (147; 5th), free throws attempted (218; 2nd), and total blocked shots (81, t-1st) in 35 starts for the Hoosiers in his third season on campus.  Jackson-Davis anchored a Hoosier defense that was ranked as the most efficient in the league by KenPom (24th in the nation) and held opponents to a league-low 39.6% shooting from the floor. Jackson-Davis has recorded 32 double-doubles and two 30-point\/10-rebound performances in his career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana University Men&#8217;s Golfer Drew Salyers named finalist for Ben Hogan Award<\/strong>                                                                     <br>Indiana junior Drew Salyers was named one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award: October Golfer of the Month, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. Salyers finished the month of October with three-straight top 20 finishes, including back-to-back individual titles at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational and The Williams Cup to close out the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He tied for 16th at the Purdue Fall Invitational with a three-round score of 221 (74-75-72; +5) on Oct. 11 before turning in back-to-back Big Ten Men&#8217;s Golfer of the Week honors. At Quail Valley, Salyers turned in a scorecard of 199 (65-65-69; -17) to become the second Hoosier in program history to secure a 54-hole scorecard under 200. He also matched the 36-hole school record with a 130 (65-65) during the opening day of competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following week, the Howard, Ohio, native won The Williams Cup with a score of 212 (72-70-70; -4). He led the 60-player field with 16 birdies across all three rounds. He was tied for second in Par 3 scoring (2.92) and Par 4 scoring (3.90). He is the only player in the conference to earn Big Ten Player of the Week distinctions twice this season. Social media voting will be done by liking the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation post from Tuesday&#8217;s announcement (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BenHoganAward\/status\/1590079083475775489\">found here<\/a>) through Thursday at 6 pm The winner will be announced Golfer of the Month winner on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana Fever hires Christie Sides as Head Coach <\/strong>                                                                                                                                            <br>The Indiana Fever has named Christie Sides the ninth head coach in franchise history. Sides, a former Fever assistant and native of Baton Rouge, LA, brings more than 20 years of professional and college coaching experience. \u00a0Sides served as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Dream during the 2022 season under first-year head coach Tanisha Wright. She had been associate women\u2019s head coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe since 2019, the role she moved to after a two-year stint with the Fever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other stops in Sides\u2019 twenty-year career include the WNBA\u2019s Chicago Sky, where she spent six seasons as assistant coach; Northwestern University, where she was first an assistant and later associate head coach; and Louisiana State University, where she was an assistant for a program that advanced to three Women\u2019s Final Fours. Additionally, Sides enjoyed significant success overseas. She was an assistant for Spartak Moscow Region in Russia, where she helped capture consecutive FIBA EuroLeague Championships in 2009 and 2010 and lead the team to five Final Eight finishes overall. She also served as an assistant with the Slovakian Women\u2019s National Team for two years in the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a player, Sides played her first two college seasons at Ole Miss for Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor and helped the Rebels to a 34-22 record. She transferred to Louisiana Tech and finished her playing career for fellow Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore. Sides helped the Lady Techsters to a 61-6 record in two seasons, including a trip to the 1999 Final Four. She still holds the career record at Tech for 3-point field goal percentage (.448).
