Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to run for reelection<\/strong>
In a downtown press conference, the two-term incumbent Mayor of Indianapolis announced he will be seeking a third term in the 2023 City Elections. Mayor Joe Hogsett, former Indiana Secretary of State and U.S. Attorney, was elected to his mayoral position in 2015 after failed US House of Representative, US Senate, and Indiana Attorney General campaigns. The Mayor’s campaign fund is believed to be around $2.5 Million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just after election polls closed last week, Democrat State Representative Robin announced her intention to primary Hogsett<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana changes for Nonprofit tax filing you should know about
<\/strong>In 2022, the Indiana General Assembly recently passed legislation revising the filing frequency for Form NP-20,\u00a0Nonprofit Organization\u2019s Annual Report<\/em>, from annually to every five years. You will need to file Form NP-20 for tax year 2021 in 2022 to qualify for the new filing frequency, which is based on the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).\u00a0This also applies to fiscal year filers whose tax years end before Aug. 1, 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will not need to file\u00a0Form\u00a0NP-20 in 2023 for the 2022 calendar year.\u00a0In addition, fiscal year filers who file Form NP-20 for a fiscal year ending after July 31, 2022, will not need to file an NP-20 during the 2023 calendar year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, your sales tax exemption certificate will be available only through the Indiana Taxpayer Information Management Engine, INTIME<\/a>, DOR\u2019s e-services portal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Effective July 1, 2022, nonprofits must collect state gross retail tax on sales after exceeding $20,000 in a calendar year. This includes sales made by all units operating under the organization\u2019s registration with DOR.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonprofit customers with open and active accounts and a sales tax-exempt<\/em> checkbox marked in the Indiana Tax System (ITS) received a letter in early November detailing upcoming changes to sales tax requirements and annual report filings. Organizations Invited to Apply for Downtown Outreach Grants<\/strong>
The City of Bloomington invites 501(c)(3) organizations to apply for City funding for projects that will improve the human condition of Bloomington residents who are unhoused or who are in jeopardy of becoming homeless.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 Downtown Outreach Grants (DTO) application is available at bloomington.in.gov\/cfrd<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City\u2019s Community and Family Resources Department is responsible for the distribution and administration of this fund. In 2022, $250,000 was distributed to local non-profit agencies including Beacon, Inc., Centerstone, Bloomington Homeless Coalition, Hotels for Homeless, Middle Way House, Monroe County Humane Association, New Hope for Families, Sojourn House, and Wheeler Mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deadline for the 2023 grants cycle is Monday, December 5, 2022, at 5 p.m. Awards will be announced by December 15, 2022.
