The Hoosiers end the year 14-5-6 and were making their 17th national championship game appearance with a record of 8-9. Indiana tied up at the 31:13 with the goal from Patrick McDonald. The Orange responded at the 32:39 with a goal from Curt Calov as they took a 2-1 lead into the locker room. Indiana tied the game 2-2 at the 79:06 mark with a goal from Hebert Endeley. The teams played two 10-minute overtime periods and neither team could score so it went to a penalty kick shootout. Both teams missed on their second attempt and then on the seven attempt Maouloune Goumballe missed and Amferny Sinclair put it past JT harms and gave the Orange the national championship and sent the IU Fans that made trip to Cary and the ones that watch on the big screen in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall home in disappointment that Hoosiers fell for the second time in 3 years in the final game and still looking to add that ninth star since 2012.

Indiana University Men’s and Women’s Basketball hold their spots in AP top 25 Saturday will mark Indiana’s second consecutive top-15 matchup when they travel to Lawrence to face Kansas. In the new AP top-25 poll released on Monday, the Hoosiers held at No. 14 despite a loss to now No. 9 ranked Arizona. Meanwhile, Kansas (9-1) dropped two spots to No. 8. Their lone loss of the season came to No. 6 Tennessee. The Hoosiers and Jayhawks tip at Noon Eastern. The headline from the new AP poll is one IU fans won’t enjoy, as in-state rival Purdue jumped three spots to the overall No. 1 ranking. It marks the second time in two seasons the Boilermakers have ascended to No. 1 in December. Last year they only held the spot for a week and never returned. Purdue is in a better position to hold the spot this time, as they don’t face another high major opponent until January.

The No. 1 spot opened up after former IU head coach Kelvin Sampson’s Houston squad fell to Alabama. Purdue and IU are the highest ranked teams in the Big Ten. Joining them in the AP top-25 from the conference are No. 18 Illinois, No. 20 Maryland, No. 22 Wisconsin and No. 23 Ohio State. Illinois has started league play 0-2 after a home loss to Penn State. Wisconsin made its debut after an 8-2 start that includes a win at Iowa on Sunday. Iowa is also receiving votes. In the latest NCAA NET rankings, Indiana is No. 20.

In the new women’s AP top-25, the IU women held firm at No. 4 after playing just one game last week with a win at Penn State. The Hoosiers are 10-0 including a 2-0 start in the Big Ten. They are the second highest ranked team in the Big Ten, with Ohio State one spot ahead at No. 3. Iowa (12), Maryland (15), and Michigan (19) are also ranked from the league. The 2022-2023 campaign began with the Hoosier Open and the first taste of this year’s athletes in the cream and crimson. Following a successful cross-country season, Camden Marshall continued his string of impressive performances on the track. He broke the school record in the 1000 meters, running a strong five laps to cross the line in 2:21.64. His mark was the best collegiate time in the event this season and the best in IU history since transitioning to meters from yards. A Big Ten Champion in the 800 meters last season, Marshall’s sophomore campaign is off to an impressive start.

Alyssa Robinson rewrote the record book in the 300 meters, lowering her personal best and program record to 38.08. She now owns the two fastest times in school history since the event moved to meters. Makayla Hunter opened the meet by recording a mark of 19.02m/62-5 in the weight throw for a new personal best and the No. 10 mark in school history. A strong day in the throws was continued by Jayden Ulrich, Noah Koch and Sean Mockler. Ulrich put the shot 16.53m/54-2.75 on her fifth attempt of the evening.
That mark was the second best in the NCAA on the early season. All six of her throws were between 15.92m and 16.53m, a consistent season-opening line. Koch, competing unattached for just the fall semester, recorded a mark of 20.31m/66-7.75 in the weight throw, quickly moving into No. 6 in program history in the event. Mockler had two marks of 20+ meters including his opening heave of 20.01m/65-7.75 which is fifth best collegiately this year.

A balanced effort saw the Hoosiers take the top three spots in both the Men’s and Women’s Long Jump including winning efforts from Serena Bolden (6.09m/19-11.75) and Alexander Smith (7.39m/24-3). Projected to be one of the strongest event groups for the Hoosiers this season, a core that includes Paola Fernandez-Sola, Robert Blue and Kynton Grays had a successful season opener. Antonio Laidler (6.82) and John Colquitt <dfn>(</dfn>8.37) ensured victories for the Hoosiers in both the Men’s 60 Meters and 60 Hurdles. Colquitt, making his collegiate debut, won both his prelim and the final. Three-time Big Ten Champion Nathan Stone opened his season by clearing 5.40m/17-8.5. He attempted three tries at 5.54m/18-2 for a personal best, but he narrowly missed on each opportunity. Jessica Mercier
moved into No. 8 in program history with her clearance at 3.99m/13-1 in the Women’s Pole Vault. Sarah Schmitt paced the opening of the 3000 meters before heading off the track and opening up the race to allow Jenna Barker and Maddie Dalton to shatter their personal bests. Barker used a big kick on the final lap (33.21) to cross the line in 9:30.55, followed by Dalton at 9:35.58. Jake Gebhardt
used a final lap of 27.80 to break away from the pack and win the Men’s 3000 Meters in 8:05.67. Maddie Rusin narrowly missed out on a spot in IU’s Top-10 List, running the 1000 meters in 2:50.29 on Friday evening. The Hoosiers return to action on January 13th and 14th for the Commodore Challenge.

123 Indiana University Student Athletes honored for Academic Success The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,641 students competing in fall sports who have been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team Friday. The list of honorees includes 141 field hockey students, 626 football students, 133 men’s and 226 women’s cross-country students, 142 men’s and 237 women’s soccer students and 136 volleyball students.
