City to Cut Ribbon on Trades District Garage<\/strong>\u00a0
Saturday, April 17 at 10am, the public is invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the Trades District Garage in Downtown Bloomington. The event will include remarks by Mayor Hamilton and other local leaders, tours of the new facility, and an opportunity to contribute to the public artwork commissioned for it. The ribbon-cutting will be held in keeping with current public health protocols for physical distancing and face covering.\u00a0The Trades District Garage is located just south of West Tenth Street between the Showers City Hall building and the B-Line Trail, just east of North Rogers Street. Event parking is available in the gravel lot at Tenth and Rogers, with parking in the facility available after the ceremony.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trades District Garage was approved for development by the BRC and Bloomington City Council to support the city\u2019s newest employment hub and cultural destination.<\/strong> The 350-space garage featuring commercial\/retail space facing the B-Line Trail will complement the Trades District\u2019s burgeoning business activity at The Mill, the Kiln (future office and commercial space) and additional sites in development, for which Bloomington is being recognized as Indiana\u2019s Rising Tech City<\/a>. Equipped with electric vehicle charging stations and a solar array, the Trades District Garage and the replacement Fourth Street Garage (scheduled to open this August) will be the first in Indiana to achieve Parksmart certification, a sustainability credential. The garage will feature artwork funded through the One Percent for the Arts Ordinance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Search for IU President nearing the finish line<\/strong>
As the process to select a new leader enters its final stage, the Indiana University Board of Trustees has authorized four trustees to begin negotiations of a contract with a final candidate. Late last month, trustee and search committee chair Melanie Walker told the trustees that a diverse mix of external candidates had been visiting IU as part of the search process. Since then, the search progressed, culminating with final interviews on the Bloomington campus. Trustees anticipate naming the new president this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The search follows President Michael A. McRobbie’s retirement announcement<\/a> in August 2020, after 14 years as president and 24 years in senior positions. During his tenure, IU has been recognized for its leadership across a wide range of key areas, including student success, research and scholarly excellence, information technology, community engagement, international education, health sciences, training and research, and the state’s economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMPD releases video summarizing January officer-involved shooting on city\u2019s west side<\/strong>
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released the video of a 10- week-old Officer involved shooting. On January 30th<\/sup>, 31-year-old Indianapolis resident Denny Mattingly fled a vehicle on foot after being pulled over for a driving violation, when he allegedly pulled a gun and began firing it toward the Officer in pursuit. The video<\/a>, \u00a0is a community briefing and is designed to give an overview of the incident, including relevant video and 911 recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mattingly was arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, residential entry and resisting law enforcement. On February 4, he was charged with possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, two counts of possession of a narcotic drug and resisting law enforcement. At the time of arrest, Mattingly possessed narcotics, and testing revealed the narcotics to be methamphetamine and fentanyl. The incident is still under investigation by IMPD Internal Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
