The 6-foot-3- and 243-pound Jones announced his decision to transfer to the Hoosiers on Monday evening. The Nevada product visited the portal last month and recently visited Indiana.  Jones utilized a redshirt while appearing in two games as a true freshman in Eugene in 2022. He saw action at Colorado (Nov. 5) and in the SDCCU Holiday Bowl vs. North Carolina (Dec. 28). Jones played eight total snaps as a freshman according to Pro Football Focus. He made one solo tackle in collegiate debut at Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones should have four years of eligibility remaining.&nbsp; He also had portal offers from Houston, California, Texas Tech, San Diego State, and Utah State.  Jones was classified positionally as an athlete coming out of high school. A three-star prospect out of Liberty High School in Las Vegas, Jones was ranked No. 622 overall and the No. 40 athlete in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana University Men&#8217;s Golf in Sixth Place after Day 2 of the NCAA Auburn Regional <\/strong>                                                                    <br>The Indiana Men&#8217;s Golf team played a strong round, shooting a 291 (+3) on day two of the NCAA Regional. The Hoosiers are in sixth place at the Auburn University Club after 18 holes of play on Tuesday. Junior\u00a0Drew Salyers played a fantastic round, working his way into a tie for fourth place while shooting a 68 on day two.  Salyers birdied or shot for par on 17 of the 18 holes today. He only recorded a bogey once. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fifth-year senior&nbsp;Mitch Davis&nbsp;birdied four times today, twice on the front nine and back nine.  Fifth-year senior&nbsp;Thomas Hursey birdied three times through the front nine holes.  Senior Noah Gillard&nbsp;shot for par or better on 12 holes today and Senior&nbsp;Eric Berggren<dfn> <\/dfn>shot for par six times in the back nine holes. Indiana will be back in action for the final day of competition this morning with all five Hoosiers teeing off between 8:30 and 9:14am. The Hoosiers are paired with Vanderbilt and Ohio State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Three Indiana University Softball players named to CSC Academic All American Team<\/strong>                                                                    <br>Redshirt junior\u00a0Cora Bassett\u00a0and sophomore duo\u00a0Heather Johnson and Brianna Copeland\u00a0were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.  As an All-District honoree, they will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those selected for the first, second and third team Academic All-America will be announced on June 6. Each CSC member is eligible to vote to determine the selection for the All-America teams. Voting is currently open until May 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bassett is working towards a degree in Management and Human Organization. Bassett has played in 101 games totaling 119 runs scored, 114 hits, 18 home runs and 57 RBI in her Hoosier career. She has helped lead the Hoosiers to 23-game program record win streak as a leadoff hitter in the Indiana lineup. The Newburgh, Ind., native has hit three leadoff homers out of her five on the season holding a .455 on base percentage and a .524 slugging percentage. &nbsp;Bassett earned Big Ten Player of the Week after batting .500 in the series sweep over Michigan. She was named First Team All-Big Ten as a junior and earned NFCA All-Region Second Team. Last season, she set Indiana single season records for doubles (19) and tied the single season record for runs scored (57). This season she has now scored 62 runs and is on pace to reach the doubles record. She will return for her fifth year next Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Copeland is pursuing a degree in Comprehensive design. She holds a 21-3 record inside the circle boasting a 2.86 ERA. She has recorded 135 strikeouts in 159 innings pitched. Copeland holds a 2.86 ERA in 43 appearances and 25 starts. Offensively, Copeland is hitting .327 on the season leading the team with 15 doubles. The power hitter has also tallied 13 home runs, one triple and 46 RBI on the season. The Pelham, Ala., native threw her first career no-hitter during opening weekend against Prairie View A&amp;M at the NFCA Classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at the Indiana School of Public Health. She has helped the Hoosiers to a program record 23 game win streak. She holds a 15-6 record on the mound this season along with four saves. On the season, Johnson has pitched 111.1 innings with 51 strikeouts for a 3.46 ERA. In her 42 appearances, she has started in 21 games with one shutout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana University Field Hockey Assistant Coach Dani Castro to attend NCAA Women&#8217;s Coaching Class <\/strong>                                                  <br>Indiana Field Hockey assistant coach Dani Castro will attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy Class No. 52 from May 22-24 in Denver, Colo.  The three-day event is conducted in conjunction with WeCOACH.  WeCOACH is an organization dedicated to the recruitment, advancement, and retention of women coaches of all sports and levels. The academy serves as a growth and development program for collegiate women coaches to elevate their coaching effectiveness through teaching of advanced leadership skills and strategies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants focus on non-sport specific concepts in an environment that fosters inclusion across the sports community. All participants in the program are required to be WeCOACH members and had to apply for a spot. The application process was highly competitive.  Castro was one of 102 coaches from around the country selected for a position in this May&#8217;s program. Castro has been on the Indiana Field Hockey coaching staff since 2019 as an assistant. She played for the team from the 2005-2008 seasons and graduated from Indiana in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indy Eleven acquires Major League Women&#8217;s Professional Soccer League Franchise <\/strong>                                                                            <br>The Indy Eleven will join the USL Super League, a new women\u2019s professional soccer league, starting next fall. Indy Eleven announced Tuesday\u00a0it will compete in the league beginning in August 2024.  The Eleven will be one of 10-12 markets as pioneering members of this first-division league in women\u2019s soccer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indy Eleven has previously taken part in the USL W League, going undefeated (10-0-2) in its inaugural regular season in 2022. The Eleven says they have the goal of addressing the opportunity gap between men\u2019s and women\u2019s professional soccer in the U.S. and building success in the world-class U.S. Women\u2019s National Team to help grow talent and contribute to this success. Additional markets that will take part in the inaugural season are expected to be announced. As well as markets included for future expansions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indiana Fever waive Guard Destanni Henderson <\/strong>                                                                                                                              <br>The\u00a0Indiana Fever\u00a0waived former Fort Myers (FL) High and South Carolina Gamecocks star\u00a0Destanni Henderson\u00a0on Tuesday, the team confirmed on\u00a0their website\u00a0and\u00a0social media.  Henderson, 24, was selected by the Fever with the eighth pick in the second round, the 20th overall pick. She was the fourth of seven players the team drafted in 2022.  This came on the heels of Henderson&#8217;s career-best performance in the NCAA Championship game where she scored 26 points to help South Carolina defeat UConn 64-49.  Henderson played in all 36 games, starting five of them, in her rookie season. The 5-foot-7 guard averaged 5.3 points and 2.5 assists a game.  As a team, the Fever went 5-31 last season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Henderson signed a 3-year, $199,170 contract after being drafted by the Fever. Her contract called for her to make $63,389 in 2022 and she was scheduled to make $64,657 in 2023.  The team has already parted with one of their 2023 picks, LSU forward LaDazhia Williams, who was cut last week. Williams was selected by the Fever with the 17th pick. The Fever have 14 players on the roster and need to get down to 12 before the season opener Friday against the\u00a0Connecticut Sun. Henderson is the Fever&#8217;s fourth camp cut, having already parted ways with forwards\u00a0Emily Engstler, Williams, and guard Renina Davis.  The 12-team league has limited roster space, with 144 spots across the league.  This has led to significant cuts like the 2023 No. 11 pick Abby Meyers of Maryland and the Dallas Wings along with second-round pick and national champion with LSU&#8217;s Alexis Morris of the Connecticut Sun.
