Indiana Man indicted for sending violent, Anti-Semitic threats to four offices of the Anti-Defamation League<\/strong>
A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Andrzej Boryga, 67, with sending threatening communications to Anti-Defamation League offices around the country. The indictment charges Boryga with four counts of willfully transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to injure another person. The defendant was also charged with choosing his victims because of their actual or perceived religion.\u00a0According to the indictment, Boryga is alleged to have left voicemails containing threats to kill Jewish people at Anti-Defamation League offices located in New York, Texas, Colorado and Nevada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If convicted on all counts, Boryga faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division, and Special Agent in Charge of the FBI\u2019s Indianapolis Field Office, Herbert Stapleton made the announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomington Councilman to deliver talk at Indiana University
<\/strong>Bloomington City Councilmember Stephen Volan will give a public talk called, “Doppelg\u00e4nger Cities: A History of Campuses — How They Came to Compete with Municipalities, How They Hold Students Back from Adulthood, and How American Universities Must Rethink Their Physical Plants<\/em>.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talk is sponsored by the IU Political & Civic Engagement (PACE) program and the Collins Board of Educational Programming.
The free, public event will be held Thursday, October 12 at 7:30pm in Edmondson Hall, Collins Living-Learning Center (LLC), at 10th and Woodlawn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this valedictory address, Volan will reflect on two decades of experience serving residents of two overlapping cities: the de jure city of Bloomington, and the de facto city of the Indiana University campus, which has an overwhelming influence on the district he represents.
Volan will present his original research into the origin of the concept of “campus”, the evolution of campuses through the centuries, and how they have come to rival naturally-occurring settlements. From research and experience he’ll discuss the undemocratic governance within these municipal-sized places, and the unavoidable public policy consequences campuses create for the communities that host them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The talk will also delve into how society perceives the citizenship of people attending university, what campuses can do to better integrate with the urban places around them, and how cities can get campuses to see their hosts as partners in planning, rather than roadblocks to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephen Volan has served 20 years as the City Council member for Bloomington’s Sixth District. He received an M.A. in Geography in 2019 from IU for his thesis, “Gownsburg: The Campus as a Municipal Phenomenon<\/em>“. He was a Collins LLC resident in 1993.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue\u2019s Zach Edey named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year<\/strong>
Purdue Senior Center Zach Edey has been named the 2023-24 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, as chosen by a select media panel, the conference office announced on Thursday. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year also claimed the 2023 Jim and Kitty Delany Most Outstanding Player Award after leading Purdue to the 2023 Big Ten Tournament title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The media panel also selected a 10-member Preseason All-Big Ten Team, with eight conference members represented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edey was one of four unanimous selections, joining a trio of guards in Illinois\u2019 Terrence Shannon Jr., Maryland\u2019s Jahmir Young, and Boo Buie from Northwestern. Also selected to the team were Maryland Forward Julian Reese, Minnesota Guard Dawson Garcia, Michigan State Guards A.J. Hoggard and Tyson Walker, Nebraska Guard Keisei Tominaga, and Rutgers Center Clifford Omoruyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All ten members of the 2023-24 Preseason All-Big Ten Team received All-Big Ten honors following the 2022-23 campaign. Buie and Shannon joined Edey with First Team accolades, while Omoruyi, Walker, and Young were named to the Second Team. Hoggard earned a spot on the Third Team, with Garcia, Reese, and Tominaga receiving Honorable Mention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
