West Nile hits Indiana for first time in 2024
The Indiana Department of Health announced that the West Nile virus was reported for the first time in the state, this year. A Lake County Resident acquired the disease that is transmitted from Mosquittos. Most who test positive for West Nile develop zero or mild flu-like symptoms, however some do go on to experience a more serious form of the virus affecting the nervous system that in some extreme cases has led to death.

IU appoints a Deputy Superintendent of Law Enforcement
Indiana University Public Safety has appointed Anthony Williams as its first Deputy Superintendent and Chief Law Enforcement Officer. Williams, who is currently the Lieutenant of Operations at Northwest Missouri State University Police Department, was selected from a national search. He will oversee the IU Police Department’s law enforcement operations on all nine campuses throughout the state. He will begin August 1st.

Bloomington Holiday Market Vendor Application
Bloomington Parks and Recreation is inviting local and regional artists to submit an application for vending space at the annual Holiday Market at City Hall, on November 30th. Artists may apply online at the City’s Website. There is a non-refundable, $20 jury fee per application, which is due on August 23rd. The 22nd annual Holiday Market, with booth spaces inside City Hall and outside at Showers Common, takes place from 10am-3pm.

Buttigieg endorses Harris for nomination
Transportation Secretary and former South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to replace President Biden on the 2024 Ticket. Buttigieg and Harris were both candidates in the 2020 Primary, but fell short to Biden, and were both selected to serve as part of his Administration. There is talk that the former Hooser Mayor is on a short list to become the VP Candidate Should Harris receive the nomination at the Democrat Convention on August 19th.

Dillinger

1934 – John Dillinger was killed by FBI agents as he came out of the Biograph Theater in Chicago.  Dillinger was born in Indianapolis and in his teens moved with his family to Mooresville.
