Former Lawrence County Auditor asked to repay missing funds
The Indiana State Board of Accounts has requested reimbursement of $125,000 from former Lawrence County Auditor Jessica Staggs relating to an investigation of missing funds. Staggs resigned last December from her position after a complaint from a utility customer led to an investigation. $80,000 was unaccounted for, and the state has spent $45,000 investigating the matter. AT this time, no charges have been filed.

Ivy Tech and IU Kelly School offering assistance in digital literacy
Steve Bryant, Director of the Ivy Tech Center for Entrepreneurship has announced that Ivy Tech and IU Kelley School faculty and students are now providing digital literacy training and assistance to advance broadband and connectivity knowledge in communities across the region. The project has enabled rural communities in Daviess, Dubois, Monroe, Orange, Owen, and Washington counties to access needed programming to improve their small business climate and the digital literacy skills of its residents

Monroe County Sports HOF inducts 10
The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame held their annual Banquet this past Friday at the Monroe Convention Center and inducted 10 members into the class of 2024. Congratulations to Greg Easton, Greg Granger, Sara Fields, Jordan Hulls, Djibril Kante, Mike Mossbrucker. Garry Anderson, Eric Moore, Bill Atkinson, and David Grossman.

Monroe County Dems to send 4 to Chicago Convention
The Monroe County Democrat Party has announced that they will send a delegation of 4 to Chicago as representatives of the local party at the 2024 Democrat National Convention. Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson, City Clerk Nicole Bolden, City Council Member Sydney Zulich, and Emma Shriberg. The Convention will run August 19-22 at Chicago’s United Center.

Indiana state government reaches record high employment
The state of Indiana has reached a record high number of state employees. The Indiana Transparency portal has announced that there are now over 32,000 Hoosiers on the state payroll of government agencies. The number had dropped to below 30,000 in 2020, during the Coronavirus, but now the numbers are back to and slightly above pre-pandemic levels.
