Golfweek Hoosier Amateur Men’s Tournament Tees off this Morning at the Indiana University Pfau Course 

102 Golfers are ready to tee off at the 5th Annual Golfweek Hoosier Amateur Men’s Golf Tournament at the Indiana University Pfau Course. The Tournament gets underway this morning with the first trio teeing off 7:30 this morning and every nine minutes until the 34th and final trio tees off at 12:46 this afternoon. Indiana University’s Nick Piesen is the defending champion from Strongsville, Ohio and is one of four current Hoosiers in the field along with Robbie Bender, Alex Cesare and Clay Merchent. The Pfau Course is 7314 Yards and Par 71. 

There are golfers from 20 States including Arkansas, Illinois, Ohio, Texas, Minnesota, North Carolina, Kentucky, Colorado, Mississippi, Tennessee, California, Kansas, Missouri Nebraska, Florida, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Iowa, Arizona and Indiana along with Golfers from Canada, Thailand, Australia and China that are in Bloomington for this event. The Tournament is 54 Holes and three rounds that will be concluded on Thursday. There is Monroe County Representation in the field with Colton Watson and Mitch Oard of Bloomington, Luke Garrett of Ellettsville and Robert Wise of Unionville. Colton Girgis From Bedford and Jason Bannister from Bloomfield are in this field. Tommy Khul won the Inaugural tournament in 2020 followed by Taichi Kho in 2021 and Nels Surtani in 2022. 

Jasper National Little League is 2-1 at the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Regional
The Jasper National Little League from Jasper, Indiana is 2-1 at the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Regional in Whitestown, Indiana and is still alive for a trip to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania next week. Jasper lost its first game to the Hinsdale, Illinois Little League 3-0 Saturday Evening. Jasper beat the Tecumseh Michigan Little League 11-1 in an elimination game Sunday Evening. Jasper beat the Westside Little League from Hamilton Ohio 4-3 and will play this afternoon at 1pm on ESPN in another elimination game against Bowling Green Eastern Kentucky Little League. The Winner of Today’s game will face Hinsdale Illinois in the Championship Game on Wednesday at 7pm and that will be televised on ESPN2. Jasper won its first Indiana State Championship and making its first Great Lakes Regional Appearances with along with State Championship Representatives of Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio in this double elimination format.

Matt Anderson and Team USA Men’s Volleyball Advance to the Semifinals in Paris
On Day 10 of the Paris Olympics in the French Capital, the United States beat Brazil 3-1 in the Men’s Volleyball Quarterfinals by a score 26-24, 28-30, 25-19 and 25-19. Zionsville, Indiana Resident Matt Anderson scored 20 points with 17 coming on attacks and 3 Blocks along with 3 digs. The United States will face Poland in the Semifinals on Wednesday. The United States leads the overall medal count with 78 total medals with 20 Gold, 30 Silver and 28 Bronze while China has regained the lead in the Gold Medal Count with 20

A Tiro of Purdue University Divers competed in the Women’s 10 Meter Platform Preliminary Round and none of them finished in the top 18 to advance to the Semifinals. Daryn Wright from Plainfield Indiana finished 19th with a score 277.72. Jaye Patrick representing Latvia finished 22nd with a score of 259.30 and Maycey Vieta of Puerto Rico finished 24th with 253.90 their Diving Coach at Purdue and Noblesville, Indiana Native David Boudia who a Gold Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the Men’s 10 Meter Platform is in Paris coaching his divers. 

Piper Kelly of Indianapolis finished 9th overall in the Women’s Sport Climbing Speed Qualification Round with a time of 7.39 and missed out on the final by one spot as the top eight advance to final round.  Kelly had a time of 7.47 on her first time and she lost in the Elimination Heats to a competitor from Indonesia as she had a time of 8.43 and the Indonesian Athlete had a time of 6:38.  

Former Indiana Pacers Basketball Player Chase Budinger and his partner Miles Evans lost to 2-0 to Anders Mol and Christian Sorum of Norway in the Men’s Beach Volleyball Round of 16 by a score of 21-16 and 21-14. Budinger is 6-6 and played Basketball at the University of Arizona from 2006-09 and played for four NBA Teams including the Indiana Pacers from 2009-16 and ended his Professional Basketball Career in Spain in 2017. Budinger joined the Professional Beach Volleyball Tour in 2008 and played High School Volleyball in his Home State of California. Budinger is 36 years old and is the first person to play in a NBA Regular Season Game and Compete in a Olympic Beach Volleyball Match. 

Big Ten Volleyball Announces a record breaking Televison Schedule with 83 Matches in 2024
The Big Ten Conference announced on Monday that a record-setting 83 Big Ten volleyball matches will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network, FOX, NBC, FS1 and Peacock for the 2024 season. Big Ten Network will broadcast at least 68 matches, the most in network history, featuring all 18 conference schools on linear television. BTN’s coverage begins with Pittsburgh at Oregon on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Pittsburgh advanced to the Final Four of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and Oregon appeared in its third Elite Eight in program history in 2023. The College Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wis., featuring Texas, Wisconsin, Stanford and Minnesota, will air nationally on FOX and FS1. Wisconsin will meet Texas on Sunday, September 1, at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by Minnesota vs. Stanford at 3 p.m. ET. The two-day event will conclude on Monday, September 2, with Wisconsin vs. Stanford at 5 p.m. ET and Minnesota vs. Texas at 7:30 p.m. Five additional matchups throughout the season will be televised on FS1.

For the first time in collegiate volleyball history, NBC will carry three nationally televised matches, beginning with Nebraska at Ohio State on October 19 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Wisconsin will visit Purdue on October 26 for a match inside Mackey Arena, carried live on NBC at 3:30 p.m. ET. Rounding out NBC’s Big Ten Volleyball coverage is Penn State at Wisconsin on November 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET. In addition, more than 200 matches will be streamed exclusively on B1G+, BTN’s subscription service. All Big Ten Network matches can be seen through its digital extension, the FOX Sports app and FOXSports.com, delivering live events and on-demand programming to Big Ten Network customers via the web, smartphones and tablets. Additionally, Volleyball World will again offer its subscribers access to select Big Ten volleyball matches on VolleyballWorld.tv. On October 29, 2023, 1.66 million fans tuned in to watch Big Ten volleyball on FOX, the most-viewed regular season women’s college volleyball telecast ever. The 2023 national championship match between Texas and Nebraska set a viewership record for the sport, averaging 1.7 million viewers, up 115% from the 2022 championship match, with female viewership up 151% from 2022.

2024 Indiana University Volleyball Single Game Tickets are on sale
Single match tickets for the Indiana volleyball season are officially on sale as of Monday morning. Wilkinson Hall will play host to 15 matches in the 2024 season including 10 conference games. The Hoosiers will open their home campaign on Labor Day against UC-Davis. The Indiana Invitational will see Ball State, Chicago State and Southern Indiana on the weekend of Sept. 13-14. Notre Dame comes to town to close out the non-conference slate on Sept. 22. A revamped Big Ten, with the addition of four west coast schools, will make for an entertaining and challenging conference slate this fall. Michigan State comes to Bloomington on Oct. 4 to open the conference schedule at home. USC and UCLA will make their first trips ever to IU. Attendance numbers for the volleyball program spiked to all-time highs in 2023. The Hoosiers went 10-3 at home and beat No. 15 Purdue for the first time since 2012. IU sold out matches against the Boilermakers and No. 2 Nebraska during conference play. Head coach Steve Aird and the Hoosiers will begin practice for the 2024 season on Thursday (Aug. 8). IU will travel to Kennesaw State for the season opener on Aug. 31. 30 regular season games (15 home, 15 away) are on the docket for this year.

Lilly King Closes out her Olympic Swimming Career with a Gold Medal in Paris
On Day 9 of the Summer Olympics in Paris France, Indiana University Graduate and the pride of Evansville, Indiana Lilly King closed out her Olympic Career with a Gold Medal in the Women’s 4 X 100 Medley Relay in World Record Time of 3:49.63. King swam the second leg with a time of 1:04.90 along Regan Smith, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske finished ahead of Australia by four seconds. The United States changed the entire team from the prelims Carmel’s Alex Shackell, Katherine Berkoff, Emma Webber and Kate Douglass will a receive a gold medal as well. The 27-Year-Old King announced during the United States Olympic Trials that this would be her last Olympics and has won 3 Golds, 2 Slivers and 1 Bronze in three different Olympics with Rio in 2016, Tokyo in 2020 and Paris in 2024.  Kai van Westering sawm the first leg of the Men’s 4 X 100 Medley Relay Final as the Netherlands finished 8th with a time of 3:32.52. van Westering went 54:60 his portion of the relay. The United States and China are tied for the most Gold Medals with 19 as the United States leads the overall medal count with 71 Total with 19 Gold, 26 Silver and 26 Bronze.

In Men’s Track and Field Norte Dame’s Yared Nuguese and Indianapolis native and Cathedral HS Graduate Cole Hocker qualified for the Men’s 1500-meter final with strong performances in the Semifinals. Nuguese had the top time overall of 3:31.72 and Hocker finished 10th 3:32.54 and will go for Gold on Tuesday.  IU’s Rikkoi Brathwaite finished 23rd overall in the 100 Meter Semifinals with a time of 10:15 for his Native British Virgin Islands.  Indiana State Graduate Erin Reese finished 14th overall in the Women’s Hammer Throw Qualification with a distance of 70.23 did not advance to the Finals missing out by 2 spots. 

In Women’s Basketball the United States beat Germany 87-68 in the final group play game with a 3-0 record. Princeton Indiana native and Notre Dame Graduate Jackie Young scored 19 points off the bench in 27 minutes along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 Steals led the United States. Notre Dame’s Jewell Loyd had a rebound and an assist of the bench in 9 minutes of action for the United States. Nigeria beat Canada 79-70 to finish group play with a 2-1 record and the become the first African team Women’s or Men to advance reach the Olympic Basketball Quarterfinals. Carmel HS graduate Tomi Taiwo got her first minute of Olympic action for Nigeria off the bench committing a turnover. Former Indiana Fever player Kayla Alexander scored 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block in 24 minutes as a starter. Former Indiana Fever and Norte Dame grad Natalie Achonwa scored 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 17 minutes as a starter for the Canadians. Current Notre Dame player Cassandre Prosper scores 4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists in 10 minutes off the bench for Canada who finished 0-3 and are eliminated from the tournament. Australia beat France 79-72 in the Final Group play game as both teams finish 2-1 and will advance to the quarterfinals. Kirsty Wallace of the Indiana Fever did not Play and Former Indiana Fever Player Alana Smith scored 12, points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 17 minutes and 28 seconds as a starter for Australia.  

The United States beat France 3-0 in the final Women’s Volleyball group play match finishing 2-1 and advancing to the quarterfinals. The Americans won 29-27, 29-27 and 25-20. Elkhart Indiana Native and Purdue University Graduate scored 15 Points all on attacks along with 15 Digs. In Fencing Notre Dame’s Gerek Mienhardt and Nick Itkin finished fourth in the Men’s Team Foil after the United States lost to France 45-32 in the Bronze Medal Match. USA beat Egypt in the Quarterfinals 45-35 and lost to Italy in the Semifinals 45-38.

Brownsburg Indiana Native Chloe Dygert finished 15th in the Women’s Cycling Road Race with a time of 4:03.03. In Men’s 3×3 Basketball the Netherlands beat The United States 21-6 and finished with 2-6 record and missed the play game after losing the head-to-head tiebreaker after losing to Poland earlier in Pool Play.  Fort Wayne Native Canyon Barry had 2 points and a rebound. In Women’s Water Polo the Netherlands beat Canada 20-11 in the Final group play game as Canada finished the group 1-3 and will advance to the quarterfinals against Spain on Tuesday. Jessica Gaudreault started and played 21 minutes and 50 seconds in goal making 8 saves and facing 22 shots along with a rebound. Shae La Roche started and played 19 minutes and 31 seconds and 2 Goals on 4 Shots along with a block and ends Pool Play with 3 Goals in this tournament.
