
Proposed new Economic Development District
Some Local Elected Officials have endorsed the establishment of a new Economic Development District (EDD) in South Central Indiana which would include Brown, Monroe, and Owen Counties. In a letter sent to the US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration it was highlighted that this area offers robust life sciences, higher education, technology, and defense sectors, as well as possessing a historical significance in the limestone industry, which has shaped the region for over two centuries. ‘ Bloomington’s Mayor Thompson believes that this potential new economic region will be better positioned to apply for future funding opportunities.
State Track Finals to be moved from IU to Indianapolis
The Indiana High School Athletic Association has decided to move the June Indiana State Track Meet from Indiana University, where it has been for 19 of the past 21 years, to North Central High School. North Central has recently completed renovations to its facility which include a 10-lane track, videoboard, two-story press box, and seating for 4,000 spectators. This year’s event will take place June 6th and 7th.
INTIME Portal for the IRS
The Indiana Department of Revenue’s customer portal INTIME now features a keybot that helps taxpayers with some frequently asked questions regarding how to navigate INTIME. Ask Indy is a Keybot that allows customers to type in simple questions and receive guidance on where to find what they need. Customers who may have specific tax questions can message Department of Revenue directly by sending a secure message using the new portal, which can be accessed on the DOR’s website.
Former Nashville Sherrif dismissed for alleged safety concerns
It is being reported that the Former Nashville, Indiana Police Chief Heather Burris was removed from her position due to safety concerns over inadequate staffing and her residing a significant distance away from town. Nashville Town Council members have stated that Burris did not have a current contract, and that Sergeant Daniel Scott Bowling is now the Department’s interim leader while they search for a permanent chief
IU Researcher obtains 200K for Alzheimer’s virtual reality project
An Indiana University Indianapolis researcher will receive $200,000 from the Alzheimer’s Association to advance the use of virtual reality to help individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Hee-Tae Jung, an assistant professor of health informatics at the IU Luddy School will leady the project in hopes to develop a VR-based solution so individuals can practice basic skills, in a safe environment, with minimal oversight from a caregiver.
La Fiesta del Otoño is September 21st
La Fiesta del Otoño will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Switchyard Park Pavilion in Bloomington. The event is free and family-friendly, providing an opportunity for the community to come together for National Hispanic Heritage Month. The theme for this year’s Fiesta is “Your Contributions Matter: Shaping the Future Together”
