Down 2-0 at Halftime Indiana University Men’s Soccer Scores three in the Second Half to Beat Kentucky 3-2 The Indiana Hoosiers were down 2-0 at halftime and looks like Indiana was headed for a tough home loss but a three goal second half gave the Hoosiers a 3-2 win over the Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday Night at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana is 4-3-5 overall and will host Penn State on Friday Night while Kentucky is 2-3-4 on the season. Indiana leads the all-time series 27-3-5 and it’s the Hoosiers first win in the series since 3-0 NCAA Tournament in 2019. Indiana dominated the match outshooting Kentucky 22-4 and 8-2 shots on goal. Kentucky Goalkeeper Ryan Jack made 5 saves and Indiana Goalkeeper JT Harms did not make a save in the entire match. Kentucky committed 14 fouls, and the Hoosiers committed 5. Indiana had 13 corner kicks, and the Wildcats had 3 and Hoosiers were called for offsides once.
While the Hoosiers controlled the stat sheet for the entire match Kentucky’s two shots on goal resulted in goals in the first half. Logan Dorsey scored at the 22:30 mark going bottom right of goal off his right foot and 13 minutes later at the 35:30-mark Mateo Franzotti scored bottom right off his right foot with the assist to Bertil Alban. Indiana outshot Kentucky 14-3 and 5-2 shots on goal but in soccer all it takes is two shots to make the difference and for Kentucky in the first half they struck at the right time. Kentucky Goalkeeper Ryan Jack made all five saves in the first half. Kentucky committed 6 fouls and Indiana committed 1 and the Hoosiers had 10 corner kicks to two for the Wildcats.
Indiana bounced back in the second half when Tommy Mihalic scored 4 minutes and 24 minutes for the brace and his 7th and 8th goals of the season. Jack Wagoner and Collins Oduro assisted on the first goal. “It shows a lot its show our character we had our head down in the locker room at halftime and down 2-0 most teams crumble and we can fight and proud of this team” Tommy Mihalic said after the game. Jansen Miller and Samuel Sarver assisted on the second goal. Freshman Michael Nesci scored the game winner at the 84:28 mark with the assist to Collins Oduro and the Indiana bench dogpiled the Freshman who scored his second goal of the season and both have been big with one coming against Notre Dame in a 2-2 draw on August 29. “It’s exhilarating, the passion and it’s great to have coaching staff have the trust in me in the big moments” Michael Nesci said after the game. “To have my teammates dogpile me is what you dream of as a kid, so it was cool to have that happen” Nesci added.
Indiana gets its 826th career victory and 367 at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Todd Yeagley has won 197 as IU Head Coach and 204 wins overall in 16 seasons as a head coach. Indiana has always turned the corner in October and with their backs against the wall the Hoosiers improved to 2-0-1 this month and with 5 Big Ten matches left and 1 non-conference game against Trine at the end of the season the tide has turned for this Hoosier team who looked dead in the water at halftime and found a way to use the Hoosier magic to win this game knock off their rivals from South of the Ohio River.
