Indiana Football Crushes Idaho in Home Opener

47,417 fans entered Memorial Stadium for the first time Saturday night since November 23rd,2019 to see the Indiana Hoosiers crushed the Idaho Vandals 56-14. The Hoosiers dominated from start to finished leading 35-7 at halftime. Stephen Carr made his IU home debut with 22 carries for 118 yards and touchdown. Carr is a graduate transfer from USC and this was his second career 100-yard rushing game, his first came his freshman year September 9th, 2017 against Stanford when he had 119 yards on 11 carries. Michael Penix Jr 11-16 68 yards with 2 touchdown passes and rushed for one. Jack Tuttle came on and was 2-4 passing with 91 yards including 76-yard touchdown pass to AJ Barner. DJ Mathews a transfer from Florida State had 81-yard punt return for a touchdown. Javon Swinton who missed the game at Iowa due to suspension had a receiving touchdown and blocked punt returned for touchdown. Special Teams made the difference having two touchdowns in the same game for the first time since 1969 against Kentucky. “Special Teams were special Coach Kasey Tegardin did an excellent job”. Head Coach Tom Allen Said in his post-game press conference.  The Hoosiers defense stepped up and allowed 265 yards and 61 on the ground. Hayden Hatten caught 2 touchdown passes from Mike Beadury for the only scored of the night for Idaho. Both Teams are 1-1 on the season Idaho will travel to Oregon State while Indiana host 7th ranked Cincinnati in a sold-out Memorial Stadium at Noon next Saturday on ESPN.

Bloomington South Beats Bloomington North 28-14

Bloomington South beat Bloomington North 28-14 Friday night at Fred Huff Memorial Field on the Southside as the Panthers continue to dominate this series all time 45-14 and have won 10 of the last 11 meetings against the crosstown rival.  Zach David was 17-21 for 316 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. David is the first South quarterback since Gavin Yeskie in 2016 to throw for over three hundred yards in a game. Che Houge rushed for 158 yards on 32 carries with 2 touchdowns. Cooper Fox caught 9 passes for 147 yards and 1 touchdown and Matthew Griffin had 3 receptions for 103 yards. Reece Lozano was 8-17 180 yards passing with an interception and touchdown along with a rushing touchdown on 15 carries for 27 yards. Cody Mikulich had 14 carries for 95 yards for Bloomington North. The Panthers had 25 first downs to 14 for the Cougars. Bloomington South had 9 penatlies for 94 yards while Bloomington North had 9 penalties for 66 yards. South lead 21-0 at halftime before the Cougars outscored them 14-7 in the second half. Bloomington South is 4-0 and travels to Terre Haute South Friday for 7:30 PM matchup. Bloomington North is 3-1 and host Terre Haute North on Friday at the same time.  

Owen Valley Crushes Edgewood 54-7

Owen Valley dominated Edgewood 54-7 in Spencer Friday Night. The Game was originally canceled Thursday evening because of COVID Concerns within the Edgewood program. But Friday afternoon the game was back on and started an hour later than normal. Owen Valley is 4-0 on the season and this was the most points the Patriots have scored on Edgewood since a 55-0 win in 1992. Edgewood is 1-3 on the season and will host South Putnam this Friday night on the Red Turf at 7 PM.

Seattle Seahawks Spoil the Indianapolis Colts Home Opener

The Seattle Seahawks beat the Indianapolis Colts 28-16 in the NFL Season Opener at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Sunday Afternoon. Carson Wentz made his Indianapolis Colts debut at quarterback after missing the preseason with a foot injury and surgery. Wentz was 25-38 for 251 yards and 2 touchdown passes but was sacked 3 times for 28 yards. Zach Pascal caught both touchdown passes and Jonathan Taylor had 17 carries for 56 yards and caught 6 passes for 60 yards. The Defense gave up 4 touchdown passes to Russell Wilson who was 18-23 for 254 yards passing but was sacked 3 times for 13 yards. Tyler Lockett had 4 receptions for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns while D.K. Metcalf and Gerald Everett caught touchdown Passes.  Over 60 thousand on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium which is the most since 2019. The Colts are 0-1 and will host the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday afternoon at 1 PM with the game televised on FOX.
