Indiana University Women’s Basketball Heads to the Pacific Northwest to Battle the Oregon Ducks  The Indiana Hoosiers have made the trip to Matthew Knight Arena before but this time when they face the Oregon Ducks it will be as a Big Ten Conference Opponent. Indiana and Oregon will face off at 9 pm this evening with the game streamed on Big Ten Network Plus. The Hoosiers make their two-game road trip out west as they will travel to Seattle Monday Night to face the Washington Huskies.

The Hoosiers and Ducks have meet on two previous occasions with Oregon winning both meetings. The last time these two teams met on the hardwood was in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on March 24, 2019, when the Ducks won 91-68. Sabrina Ionescu had a triple double for the Ducks with 29 Rebounds, 12 Assists and 10 Rebounds, Satou Sabally added 19 points, Erin Boley scored 10 points and Ruthy Hebard added 10 rebounds. Ionescu plays for the WNBA’s New York Liberty and won gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics with Team USA and Sabally is a free agent after playing with the Dallas Wings and representing Germany in the Paris Olympics.  The Hoosiers had Four players in double figures with Ali Patberg who is now an assistant coach for Indiana scoring 16 and Jaelynn Penn adding 16 Points. Grace Berger who plays for the Indiana Fever scored 11 points off the bench and Bendu Yeaney added 10 points in her home state being a Portland native.  The other meeting between Indiana and Oregon came in Portland on December 16, 1984, with the Ducks winning 77-56. Oregon is scheduled to make the trip to Bloomington for the first time next season. This is the first of two games for the Hoosiers in the Pacific Northwest as the Hoosiers will make their way to Seattle, Washington to face the Washington Huskies on Monday Night.

Oregon is 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten and will come with a two-game winning streak after beating Purdue 69-53 and Iowa 50-49 both at Home. The Ducks have won 5 of the last six with wins of Northwestern, Wisconsin and Penn State and dropping one at Ohio State 69-60 on January 12. The Ducks lost at home to USC 66-53 on December 7 and at Illinois 64-59 on December 28. The Ducks and Hoosiers have a common non-conference opponent in Baylor as the Ducks beat the Bears 76-74 on November 10 in Eugene and the Hoosiers beat the Bears 73-65 on November 24 in the Bahamas.  Deja Kelly leads the Ducks with 11 points and 3.5 assists per game. Peyton Scott is averaging 10.2 points per game. 6-8 Senior Phillipina Keyi averages 7.1 points along with a team leading 6.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. Elisa Melvis leads the team with 1.7 Steals Per Game. Oregon is averaging 70.5 points per game and committing 13.5 turnovers a contest. The Ducks are shooting 44 percent from the field, 28 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the field. Oregon has a 15-player roster that represents Oregon, Utah, Washington, Texas, California, Michigan, Ohio along with 4 international players from Luxembourg, Canada, Germany and Sweden.

Kelly Graves is 235-105 in his 11th season at Oregon with 5 NCAA Tournament Appearances and led the Ducks to the 2019 Final Four. The Ducks were 31-2 in the 2019-20 and were determined to make the final four and possibly win a national championship to send Sabrina Ionescu out with a title when the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Graves has won 618 games overall and lost 278 that spans 28 seasons with Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and Oregon. Graves has made 13 trips to the NCAA Tournament and 4 to the Postseason WNIT Tournament and has 23 winning seasons. The 62-Year-Old is from Salt Lake City, Utah and played at Ricks Junior College in Rexburg, Idaho from 1983-85 which is now called Brigham Young University-Idaho and The University of New Mexico from 1985-87.

One player for the Hoosiers that is familiar with the Ducks is Graduate Student Sydney Parrish who started her career in Eugene playing for Coach Graves from 2020-22 before she decided to come back to Indiana and suit up for the Cream and Crimson. Parrish has made the tournament all four seasons and is looking to close out her career with another trip to the Big Dance. The 6-2 Fishers, Indiana native is averaging 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Parrish misses five games with a knee injury suffered in November in a win against Baylor in the Bahamas. Parrish never thought she would face her former team and never thought that there was possibility they would join the Big Ten. Parrish said before the season she is excited to go back and it’s a full circle moment to come back to place that was hard to leave after two seasons, but she is happy to be back in her home state of Indiana.

Indiana is 12-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Big Ten after suffering back-to-back home losses to Illinois by 14 and USC by 7 points. Indiana made USC Sophomore JuJu Watkins work for all 22 points as Chloe Moore-McNeil and Lexus Bargesser had the defensive assignment on her. For the Hoosiers the key was missed shots down the stretch and the Trojans hitting their free throws in the four quarter. The Hoosiers are averaging 70.6 points and committing 14.5 turnovers per game.  Yarden Garzon is leading the team with 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and averages 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Shay Ciezki is averaging 11.7 points per game. Lilly Meister is averaging 10 points per game and a team leading 0.8 blocks per game but is coming off the bench as Senior Karoline Striplin who averages 8.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game got her first start as the Hoosier against USC. The Tennessee transfer has been the first one off the bench all season but Meister’s struggles against a very physical Illinois team led to the change that led to the Hartford, Alabama native in Striplin being interested to the starting lineup for the rest of the season according to head coach Teri Moren.  Chloe Moore-McNeil is averaging 9.8 points, along with a team leading 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game and she became the 32nd Indiana University Women’s Basketball player to score 1,000th points during Sunday’s Game against USC. The Hoosiers are shooting 44 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 76 percent from three-point range.

Indiana University Athletic Director Scott Dolson announces changes and promises for Indiana University Football In a mass e-mail, IU Director of Athletics Scott Dolson formally kicked off IU football’s season ticket renewal efforts. Dolson noted Indiana has seen a “remarkable jump in interest in season tickets for the fall.”  The Hoosiers sold out their final four games and set a new record for single season attendance in 2024 as first year coach Curt Cignetti led IU to an 11-2 record and the College Football Playoff.

In his e-mail, Dolson introduced two new concepts. There will be a new East Side Club featuring new premium seating options on the east side of the stadium.  This will mark the third straight year Indiana has introduced new premium seating options, following south end zone suite additions in 2023 and 2024. Dolson also introduced a new personal seat donation program for football tickets, following a trend across the Big Ten.

Here is Dolson’s full e-mail sent on Wednesday afternoon:

Dear Hoosier Nation,

The 2024 college football season has come to a close, and what a season it was for Indiana Football! National Coach of the Year Curt Cignetti led us to our first-ever College Football Playoff appearance, a top-10 national ranking, and the greatest season in program history. As thrilling as the season was, we’re equally excited about the prospects of continued high-level success as we move forward.

This season’s success came against a backdrop of unprecedented change in college sports. NIL, the transfer portal and, beginning July 1, revenue sharing are the new reality for athletic departments across the country. As a department, we have been focused on turning these types of challenges into opportunities for success for our student-athletes and our programs. Our department’s successes relative to NIL and the transfer portal have been well documented and were undoubtedly a significant part of the success we enjoyed in football last fall.

Looking ahead to the next wave of changes, we have a plan to continue to elevate IU Football and all our 24 varsity programs within the Big Ten and nationally. You, as part of Hoosier Nation, are a big part of our plan for success.

This week, we will officially launch our 2025 IU Football season ticket renewal campaign. We have already witnessed a remarkable jump in interest in season tickets for the fall. If you were a season ticket holder a year ago, we hope that you will renew and potentially consider buying additional season tickets for 2025. If you weren’t a 2024 season ticket holder, we hope that you will become one for 2025 as we look forward to the prospects of more sell-outs and more unforgettable wins under Coach Cignetti.

We’ll be officially announcing several other exciting changes soon as well. Due to overwhelming demand for additional premium seating options, a new premium east side area will debut this fall. Look for details on the new East Side Club in the coming days. We will also share details about our plan to follow the lead of 14 other Big Ten universities and initiate a new personal seat donation program for football tickets. Depending on your seat location, this annual donation will range from $0 to $250/ticket.

IU Athletics is focused on embracing these changes so we can propel IU Athletics to a new era of across-the-board success. We need you to be a part of this journey!

Scott Dolson Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

Indiana University Baseball’s Devin Taylor earns Consensus Preseason All-American Honors   D1 Baseball, the final of the major outlets to release preseason honors, tabbed junior outfielder Devin Taylor as a Second Team Preseason All-American on Tuesday morning. His long list of early season attention now features projected All-American honors from both D1 Baseball and Perfect Game. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has put together a pair of outstanding seasons in his time in Bloomington. Through two years, he’s racked up 36 home runs, 149 hits, 24 doubles and 113 RBIs. In 2024, he became the fifth different player in program history – and first since 2010 – to hit 20+ (20) home runs. He hit .357 in his sophomore campaign and is a career .338 hitter during his time in Bloomington. Since 2001, he’s one of nine IU players with a batting average north of .335 on at least 440 at-bats. He and fellow junior Tyler Cerny are on track to be the 25th and 26th members of the 200-hit club at some point this season.

Taylor could be the third player in program history to do the Big Ten award double. Sam Travis and Alex Dickerson are the only other two Hoosiers to win both Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Player of the Year honors during their time in Bloomington. Taylor was the league’s best rookie in 2023 and could add the top prize with a brilliant 2025 season. He is a likely top 15 pick in next summer’s MLB Draft. He’s one of six returning position players to start at least 40 contests a season ago. Taylor will provide head coach Jeff Mercer with some versatility this year. He can play all three outfield positions and is able to bat in any spot of the lineup. IU kicks off its 2025 season on February 14th vs. UNLV in Surprise, Arizona.

Indianapolis Colts to Refund Season Ticket Holders for the Germany Game The NFL announced on January 15 that the Colts will be playing a regular season game as part of their home schedule at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany in 2025. Since the game in Berlin results in one fewer home game, season ticket holders will be either refunded for the game or will not be charged. If a season ticket holder has already paid for their 2025 tickets, they will receive a refund for the game. The refund will be equal to 10% of the total cost of the season tickets. If a season ticket holder is on a payment plan or has not paid for their 2025 season tickets yet, they will not be charged for the game. 10% of the total cost of the season tickets will be deducted from future payment. The refunds or adjustments will go into effect after the NFL releases the entire official schedule for the 2025 season in the spring. After the announcement of the game in Berlin, some Colts fans were frustrated with the loss of the home game in their season ticket package. This will be the second time the Colts play in Germany, becoming the only NFL team to play multiple regular-season games in Germany. They beat the Patriots in Frankfurt, 10-6, in the 2023 season.
