
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Concludes Two Game West Coast Trip at Washington The Indiana Hoosiers conclude their 2 Game Big Ten West Coast Road Trip when the face the Washington Huskies at the Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle at 9 PM this evening with the game streamed on Big Ten Network Plus. Indiana Head Coach Teri Moren said during Big Ten Media Days in October that she has never coached at Washington or USC and since the Hoosiers will play the Trojans in Los Angeles next season Moren said she looking forward playing in Seattle against the Huskies for the first time in her 22-year head coaching career. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams with Indiana winning two of the three previous meetings. The Hoosiers beat Huskies 80-78 on December 4, 1982. Washington made the trip to Bloomington on November 17, 2001, as the Hoosiers won 77-74. Washington beat Indiana on December 7, 2001, 85-73 in Seattle. Now that Washington is in the Big Ten these two will meet every season with the Huskies making the trip to Bloomington next season.
Indiana is 12-7 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten after a 54-47 loss at Oregon Friday Night. The Hoosiers are on a three-game losing streak since the end of the 2021-22 regular season. The 47 points is lowest point total since the Hoosiers scored 46 points in a 10-point loss at Butler on November 13, 2024. The Hoosiers scored 2 just points in the final 5:08 of the game as led by 3 and lost by 7 as the Ducks outscored the Hoosiers 10-2. Karoline Striplin led the Hoosiers with 14 points. Striplin has started the last three games in place of Lilly Meister and has scored 30 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block. On the season the Hartford, Alabama native is averaging 9.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Yarden Garzon is averaging a team leading 13.4 points 5.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. Garzon has scored 31 points, 22 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks in the last three games and has struggled from the field going 8-34 in the last three games. The Hoosiers and Head Coach Teri Moren hopes the Junior from Israel gets her shooting mojo back as they need to produce the way she has been capable of. Shay Ciezki is averaging 11.1 points and Sydney Parrish is averaging 10.1 points per game. Chloe Moore-McNeil leads the team with 3.9 assists and averages 9.7 points per game. Lilly Meister is averaging 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
The Hoosiers are averaging 69.4 points per game and commit 14.6 turnovers per game. Indiana is shooting 44% from the field, 33% from three-point range and 76% from the free throw line. The Hoosiers went 1-2 to start the season and won 3 straight game including wins over a ranked Stanford and Baylor Team before a loss in the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis against North Carolina. The Hoosiers lost at home to top ranked UCLA by 11 points and bounced back with road wins over Northwestern and Iowa. Indiana has lost three in a row to Illinois and USC at Home and now Oregon on the road. After the Huskies the Hoosiers have home games with Nebraska, Rutgers, Purdue, Ohio State and Maryland. Indiana will travel to Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue.
The Huskies are 13-7 and 4-4 in the Big Ten and looking to bounce back after 85-61 home loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes last Wednesday Night. The Hawkeyes led 40-26 at halftime and both teams scored 35 second half points, but the halftime deficit was too much to overcome for the Huskies. Elle Ladine scored 24 points, Sayvia Sellers added 13 points and Dalayah Daniels scored 11 points. Washington went 23-60 from the field for 38 percent, 7-20 from three-point range for 35 percent and 8-11 from the free throw line for 72 percent. Washington was out rebounded 32-16 but the Huskies had 16 assists, 11 steals and committed 14 turnovers. Sayvia Sellers leads the team averaging 16.6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Elle Ladine averages 16.4 points a game and Dalayah Daniels leads the team with 7.2 rebounds along with a 10.8 scoring average. Tayra Eke leads the team in blocks with 1.5. Washington averages 73.4 points and commits 14.8 turnovers per game. The Huskies shoot 46 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the field. Washington has an 11-player roster that represents Washington, California Massachusetts, Alaska and Spain. The Huskies have 3 players from the home state and 5 from California.
Tina Langley is in her fourth season as the Huskies Head Coach leading them in their inaugural season in the Big Ten. Langley is 60-55 with 2 winning season and two trips to the Women’s Basketball Tournament the last two seasons. Langley went 126-61 in 6 seasons at Rice University in Houston, Texas from 2015-21 and won the 2017 Women’s Basketball Invitational Championship and the 2021 Postseason WNIT Championship. Langley led the Owls to the Postseason WNIT in 2018 which is the year Indiana and Teri Moren won that tournament and the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Langley has 7 winning seasons and 6 Postseason Appearances in her 10 seasons as a head coach with a 190-120 overall record. The 51-year-old was born in Jasper, Alabama and played at Bevill State Community College in Sumiton, Alabama from 1991-93 and played West Alabama from 1993-95. Langley was an assistant coach at Toledo from 1998-2003, Clemson from 2003-05, Georgia in 2005 and Maryland from 2008-15.
Rodney Rice’s Three with 7 Seconds Left lifts Maryland over Indiana University Men’s Basketball Rodney Rice hit the game winning shot making a three pointer with 7 seconds left as Myles Rice missed a three-point shot in the corner as the Maryland Terrapins beat the Indiana Hoosiers 79-78 Sunday Afternoon in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Maryland improves to 16-5 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten. Indiana is 14-7 overall and 5-5 in the Big 10 and have lost two in a row and four of their last five games. It doesn’t get any easier for the Hoosiers who travel to archrival Purdue Friday Night after the Boilermakers blew out Michigan 91-64 at Mackey Arena last Friday Night. Indiana made two substitutions before the last inbounds play taking out Oumar Ballo and Anthony Leal and putting in Luke Goode and Mackenize Mgbako and the crowd booed the decision and did not understand the reasoning and Head Coach Mike Woodson said Maryland went zone and they didn’t execute at the end of the game. Maryland snaps a three-game losing streak to Indiana and Maryland is now 3-6 all time in Bloomington and Indiana leads the all-time series 14-10.
The Hoosiers led 73-70 with 3:05 left as the Hoosiers used an 8-0 run as Maryland was scoreless for 2:05 as Malik Reneau’s turnaround jumper gave the Hoosiers a five-point lead 75-70 with 3:07. Selton Miguel scored on the fastbreak with a layup to cut the Hoosiers lead to 3 points 75-72. Julian Reese put Maryland within one 75-74 of a Hoosiers turnover with 1:10 left. Anthony Leal scored on a second chance basket and was fouled as the Hoosiers completed the three-point play to put the Hoosiers up four 78-72. Ja’Kobi Gillespie put Maryland within two 78-76 with 28 seconds left. Trey Galloway was fouled by Derik Queen and missed the one and one with 22 seconds left. Maryland was able to get the look the wanted as Rodney Rice drained the game winning basket on a three pointer to silence the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall crowd to give the Terps the win as he led Maryland in scoring with 23 and draining 5-7 from beyond the arc as Maryland went 12-24 from the three-point line to shoot 50%.
Ja’Kobi Gillespie finished with 18 points and went 4-10 from downtown. Selton Miguel 15 points going 3-6 from three-point range. Julian Reese scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his 9th double-double of the season. Freshman Derik Queen scored 7 points and 11 pulled down 11 rebounds for 7th game with double figure rebounds, Maryland scored 2 points off its bench when Tarfara Gapare had an alley-oop with 9:57 in the first half with the assist to Gillespie. Fromer Indiana Hoosier Jordan Geronimo played 5 minutes and pulled down 2 rebounds. Mackenize Mgbako and Myles Rice led Indiana with 16 points apiece. Oumar Ballo recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ballo has recorded a double in 5 of the last 7 games and 6 of the last eight games scoring double figures in all 8 games. Malik Reneau added 10 points for Indiana in just his second game back from knee injury as he returned to the starting lineup.
Luke Goode scored 8 points off the bench and hit two three pointers. Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway scored six points apiece and Kannan Carlyle added 2 points. The Hoosiers are 2-6 in quad 1 games and with 10 more chances in the regular season with a tough scheduled ahead the opportunities for the Hoosiers are starting to run out. Indiana had a foul to give and did not give it and called to set up the final inbounds play that did not work. Myles Rice took blame for the last play saying after the game “That’s on me as a point guard; I’ve got to make sure, no matter what lineup is in, that we know what we’re doing” and for the Hoosiers another tough loss and another home loss and more pressure on a team expected to win and fell short once again sending the crowd home disappointed.
The Indiana Pacers bounce back to Beat the San Antonio Spurs 136-98 in Second and Final Game in Paris Tyrese Haliburton scored 16 of his 28 points in a dazzling 2-1/2 minute display late in the third quarter, Pascal Siakam scored 23 and the Indiana Pacers downed Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs 136-98 in the NBA Paris Games finale on Saturday. Andrew Nembhard scored 15, Myles Turner had 14, Bennedict Mathurin 13 and TJ McConnell 12 for Indiana. The Pacers led by 15 at halftime, fell behind by one in the third quarter, then rolled the rest of the way. Wembanyama had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who won the series opener by 30 on Thursday. Harrison Barnes led San Antonio with 25 points and Stephon Castle scored 17 for the Spurs. Wembanyama shot 7 of 16 from the field, plus he finished with two steals, two assists and a block. Haliburton was 6 for 6 from the field in that end-of-the-third stretch, four of those shots from 3-point range. The Pacers made seven of their final eight shots of the third to open a 15-point lead, then kept running away in the fourth. This was the fourth time that San Antonio played a two-game series against the same opponent this season — and the Spurs have yet to sweep one of those sets. They went 1-1 vs. Houston and Denver (both after winning the first game), 0-2 vs. Memphis and 1-1 vs. the Pacers. Wembanyama checked out with 3:35 left, done for the day with the Spurs down 127-97. He still received a warm reception from the crowd in his homeland, and he applauded to show his appreciation. Haliburton had 18 points in the third quarter, his highest-scoring quarter of the season. Both teams are off until home games on Wednesday. The Spurs play host to the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Pacers play host to Detroit.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball goes Cold Down the Stretch at Oregon The Indiana Hoosiers led the Oregon Ducks led 45-44 with 3:25 left in the fourth quarter as the Ducks outscored the Hoosiers 10-2 as Indiana went scoreless for 4 minutes and 51 seconds as the Ducks protected the Matthew Knight Arena home floor and won 54-47 Friday Night in Eugene, Oregon. Indiana falls to 12-7 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten and will head to Seattle, Washington Monday night to face the Huskies. Oregon is 15-5 on the season and 6-3 in the Big Ten. Oregon has won all three meetings in this series and are 2-0 at home against the Hoosiers and other meeting took place in Portland. Indiana will host Oregon next season as the Ducks make their first ever trip to Bloomington.
Indiana led 45-42 when Lilly Meister scored on a Jumper with the assist to Yarden Garzon with 5:09 left in the fourth quarter. Oregon trailed 45-44 when Phillipina Keyi made a layup with the assist to Deja Kelly. The Ducks would score the next 8 points as Indiana went scoreless as Chloe Moore-McNeil’s layup ended the scoring drought with 28 seconds left to make it 52-47 as Elisa Mevius went to free throw line on two occasions and sealed the win hitting the first with 22 seconds and the second 17 seconds to seal the win for the Ducks who are 13-1 at home this season.
Peyton Scott was the only Duck in double figures with 14 points. Oregon went 20-59 from the field for 34%, 4-12 from three-point range for 33% and 10-17 from the free throw line for 58%. The Ducks pulled down 41 rebounds, dished out 12 assists, 11 steals, 2 blocks and committed 11 turnovers. The Ducks outscored the Hoosiers 32-21 in the second half. Karoline Striplin led Indiana with 14 Points for her seventh game in double figures. Sydney Parrish added 10 points in her first game in Eugene since she transferred away from Oregon after her Sophomore season. Yarden Garzon pulled down a season high 10 rebounds and scored 8 points. Indiana finished 21-56 from the field for 37%, 4-18 from three-point range 22% and 1-3 from the free throw line for 33%. The Hoosiers pulled down 36 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, 5 blocks, 4 steals and committed 17 turnovers. Indiana led 25-22 at halftime as the game featured 4 ties and 3 lead changes.
Indiana has lost three straight games for the first time since the end of the 2021-22 season. Head Coach Teri Moren said after the game the next 48 hours will be “interesting” in terms of the forthcoming conversations after this letdown. “We’re gonna have to dig deep in our soul and in our hearts and see what we’re made of, because this has been a tough stretch for us.” Yarden Garzon who leads the team in scoring has gone 8-34 from the field in the last three games “It’s certainly concerning. We rely on her, and she has not shot the ball very well. The last time she shot it well was against Iowa (on Jan. 11). So, we haven’t seen that Yarden since then. It’s concerning because we do need her to generate some points for us, and right now, she’s having a hard time doing that.” Moren said after the game. The Hoosiers don’t have time to dwell on the loss with a quick turnaround with Washington coming up on Monday. Indiana needs to split this road trip in the Pacific Northwest to get out of the losing skid and build some momentum with 10 games left in the Big Ten Regular Season.
Indiana University Men’s Basketball Lands Bosnian Wing Harun Zrno for the Class of 2025 Indiana picked up a commitment from Bosnian wing Harun Zrno on Friday. Arman Jovic first reported the news. The 20-year-old is planning to join the IU program for the 2025-26 season. He currently plays for Slavija Istocno Sarajevo in Bosnia’s Division I. Known for his versatility and ability to connect from deep, Zrno is averaging 19.4 points, 3.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 63 percent overall including 47 percent from beyond the arc. Zrno is Indiana’s second sharpshooter in the 2025 class. He joins Montverde Academy’s Trent Sisley. Both players have a history of shooting better than 40% from three and should prove to be versatile players at the college level.
“I chose Indiana because they’re really great people and I really see myself working well with them,” Zrno told DuShawn London, a national analyst for 247Sports. “I think I can grow (at Indiana) and they can help me reach all my goals in the future. They have a really good history behind them, and I’ll have a great opportunity to play right away, have a good role, and find myself on the court.” According to Joe Tipton of On3, programs like Gonzaga, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Baylor, and Illinois also showed interest in Zrno.
Indiana Pacers drop the First Game in Paris to the San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama scored 30 points in his first NBA game on his native French soil, Devin Vassell added 25 and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Indiana Pacers 140-110 on Thursday night in Paris. Wembanyama finished with 11 rebounds, six assists and five blocks for the Spurs. Harrison Barnes scored 20 for San Antonio, which won for only the second time in its last eight games. The Spurs had a huge 57-31 edge in rebounding. Bennedict Mathurin led Indiana with 24 points. Pascal Siakam added 18, Myles Turner scored 14 and Tyrese Haliburton and Obi Toppin finished with 13 each for the Pacers. Indiana had won eight of its last nine contests. San Antonio got forward Jeremy Sochan back on Thursday. He had missed 19 of the Spurs’ last 34 games with injuries, including the last five. Sochan had 13 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes, making six of his nine shots. Defense is Indiana’s calling card, and it wasn’t there on Thursday. The Spurs shot 60% for the game. Indiana is now 2-7 this season when opponents shoot 52% or better. The final 2:25 of the third quarter was a Wembanyama showcase: He had four points, three rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists in that span alone. It started with the Spurs up by 16; thanks to his tip-in with one-tenth of a second remaining, San Antonio went into the fourth with a 105-80 lead. Thursday was the fourth time that Wembanyama finished a game with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks. The only players with more such games in the last 50 regular seasons are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (24), Hakeem Olajuwon (14), and David Robinson and Shaquille O’Neal (11 each).
