Former Indiana University Women’s Basketball Player Grace Berger Waived by the Indiana Fever The Indiana Fever continue to make roster moves ahead of the season opener on Saturday, May 17. Sunday, the new Fever front office decided to waive former Indiana Hoosier standout Grace Berger. Berger was drafted seventh overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft by her hometown team much to the excitement of the Hoosiers already passionate women’s basketball fan base. At the time, the addition of Berger was a boost to ticket sales and reinstilled the popularity of the Fever in Indianapolis – even before drafting Caitlin Clark the following year.
In her rookie season, Berger played 36 games and shot an average of 44.9 percent from the field but never saw the starting lineup. In 2024, Berger saw her minutes drop with the addition of Clark. She played in only 11 games, then fractured her thumb in November while playing in Spain during the WNBA offseason. Waiving Berger is the latest transaction for the Fever after a busy week of trades and free agency signings. Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell signed a new contract to come back to the Fever earlier this week. Then, the team added two-time All Star Natasha Howard from free agency and traded for Phoenix Mercury’s Sophie Cunningham. Earlier Sunday, the Fever also added former Connecticut Sun All Star DeWanna Bonner, who averaged 15 points and six rebounds last season. Bonner follows head coach Stephanie White, who made her own move from the Sun to the Fever this offseason. The Fever tip off the season against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, May 17.
