
Sydney Parrish and Indiana University Women’s Basketball get another shot at Oregon this time in the Big Ten Tournament The #9 Seed Indiana Hoosiers will face the #8 Seed Oregon Ducks to start the Second Round of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis today at Noon on the Big Ten Network. Oregon beat Indiana 54-47 on January 24, at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene. Sydney Parrish who started her career with Oregon before coming back to Indiana scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in her return to Eugene which was the first time since she had been there since leaving after her Sophomore Season. If Parrish and the Hoosiers can beat the Ducks, then is a matchup with Top Seed and Big Ten Regular Season Champion USC on Friday at Noon in the Quarterfinals. Karoline Striplin scored 14 points and Yarden Garzon had 8 points and 10 rebounds in the matchup with the Ducks. Peyton Scott led the Ducks with 14 points and as 11 of the 12 that played against the Hoosiers scored in the game. Indiana led 11-8 after the first quarter and 25-22 at halftime. Oregon outscored the Hoosiers 32-22 in the second half as Indiana went cold in the fourth quarter and had several turnovers.
The Hoosiers ended the regular season 18-11 and 10-8 in the Big Ten after beating Purdue 77-57 Sunday afternoon in West Lafayette for the 13th straight time in the series with the Boilermakers. Yarden Garzon leads the team with 14.1 points and 1.4 steals per game. Garzon broke the 31-year-old record that Kris McGrade held since 1994 with 206 Career three pointers in Indiana University Women’s Basketball History. Garzon has hit 208 Career Three Pointers. Garzon is just a Junior and will have another year to add to her record and make it hard to break in the coming years. Sydney Parrish is averaging 12.2 points per game and leads the team with 5.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. Shay Ciezki is averaging 11.3 points per game and Karoline Striplin averages 10.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Chloe Moore-McNeil who broke the all-time record on Sunday playing her 149th career game for the Hoosiers is averaging 9.5 points and leading the team with 4.3 assists per game. Indiana is averaging 69 points and committing 14.4 turnovers per game. The Hoosiers are shooting 45 % from the field, 36% from three-point range and 77% from the free throw line.
Oregon finished the regular season 19-10 overall and 10-8 in the Big Ten after losing Sunday at Washington 64-56. Deja Kelly is the only double figure scorer for Oregon averaging 11.8 points and leading the team with 3.3 assists per game. 6-8 Phillipina Kyei is averaging 6.9 points and leads the Ducks with 6.9 rebounds and 1 block per game. Elisa Mevius leads the team with 1.6 steals per game. Oregon is averaging 68.4 points and committing 13.1 turnovers per game. The Ducks are shooting 42% from the field, 29% from three-point range and 69% from the field.
Oregon Holds Off Indiana University Men’s Basketball for their First Win against the Hoosiers The Oregon Ducks held off the Indiana Hoosiers 73-64 Tuesday Night at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Oregon. This was the first meeting between these two programs since Indiana beat Oregon 68-60 in Portland, Oregon on December 28, 1978, when current Indiana coach Mike Woodson finished with 36 points and nine rebounds for the Hoosiers. Indiana had won all three meetings with Oregon that were all played in Portland winning 102-64 on December 30, 1966, and 56-47 on December 29, 1973. Jackson Shelstad scored eight of his 17 points in the final 90 seconds as Oregon closed the game on a 10-0 run. Trey Galloway hit a 3-pointer with 1:58 left to give Indiana a 64-63 lead but, with the shot clock winding down, Shelstad answered with a 3 from well beyond NBA range and the Ducks led the rest of the way. Bittle stole the ball, was fouled and hit both free throws with 57 seconds remaining and Shelstad hit 5 of 6 from the foul line from there to seal as the Ducks finished the home portion of the schedule with a 12-4 record.
Oregon is 22-8 overall and 11-8 in the Big Ten and will travel to Washington to close out the regular season. The Ducks will most likely be the #8 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis barring a wild finish to the regular season and would need several results to go their way. The Ducks have won six in a row which is the longest single season conference winning streak since the 2016-17 season when they played in the PAC-12. Nate Bittle finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four blocks for Oregon. TJ Bamba added 13 points and Kwame Evans Jr. added 10 points. Oregon shot 39% 24-61 from the field and hit 6-25 for 24% from behind the 3-point line but made 19 of the 21 from the free-throw line for 90%. The Ducks pulled down 43 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, 7 steals, 7 blocks and committed 9 turnovers.
Indiana is 18-12 overall and 9-10 in the Big Ten and will host Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in the final home game for Head Coach Mike Woodson who announced a month ago he is stepping down at the end of the season. The Hoosiers and Buckeyes are both 9-10 in the conference after the Buckeyes beat Nebraska in double-overtime Tuesday Night in Columbus. The winner of this game will be the #9 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. The loser will be the #10 seed. Trey Galloway led Indiana with 16 points. Oumar Ballo added 10 points and 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double this season and the 44th of his career. Galloway played in his 138th career game to become the all-time leader in Indiana University Men’s Basketball history in career games played breaking Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell’s mark of 137 games from 2012-16. Indiana finished the game 26-65 from the field for 40%, 9-25 from three-point range for 36% and 3-7 from the free throw line for 43%. The Hoosiers pulled down 36 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, 5 steals, 5 blocks and committed 10 turnovers.
There were 10 ties, and 10 lead changes and Oregon had the biggest lead of the game leading by nine with 6:24 left in the first half. Oregon led 35-32 at halftime and outscored the Hoosiers 38-32 in the second half. Indiana led by three points with 13:21 left in the ball game for their largest lead. The Hoosiers wore their Black Uniforms for the second game in a row after debuting them against Washington on Saturday. All eight Hoosiers that played Tuesday Night scored at least four points and grabbed at least one rebound.
#12 Washington takes down #13 Minnesota in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Opener The 12 Seed Washington Huskies took down the 13 Seed Minnesota Golden Gophers 79-62 in the First Game of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Presented by TIAA Wednesday Afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Washington is 19-12 on the season and will face 5 Seed Michigan today at 2:30 PM in the Second Round. Minnesota is 20-11 and will wait a week and half to learn their postseason tournament fate on Sunday March 16. Elle Ladine led the Huskies with 21 points, Dalayah Daniels and Sayvia Sellers scored 15 points apiece and Hannah Stines scored 14 points. Washington went 30-55 from the field for 54%, 10-24 from three-point range for 41% and 9-12 from the free throw line for 75%. The Huskies pulled down 32 rebounds, dished out 20 assists, 5 steals, 1 block and committed 13 turnovers.
Grace Groholski led Minnesota with 21 points, Mallory Heyer chipped in 11 points and Tori McKinney added 10 Points for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota finished the game 26-66 from the field for 39%, 5-19 from three-point range for 26% and 8-9 from the free throw line for 89%. Minnesota pulled down 27 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, 6 steals, 1 block and committed 15 turnovers. Washington came out on fire and led 16-12 after the first quarter. Minnesota outscored Washington 18-16 in the second quarter as the Huskies led 32-30 at halftime. Washington controlled the second half scoring 47 points and held Minnesota to 35 points. Washington made its debut in the Big Ten Tournament and gets their first Big Ten Conference Tournament Win making the trip from Seattle to Indianapolis and hoping to extend its stay for a few days.
#10 Seed Nebraska handles #15 Seed Rutgers in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Opening Round The #10 Seed Nebraska Cornhuskers handled the #15 Seed Rutgers Scarlet Knights 84-60 Wednesday Evening in the Opening Round of the Big Ten Tournament presented by TIAA at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Nebraska improves to 20-10 and Rutgers ends their season at 11-19. Nebraska will play #7 Seed Illinois tomorrow at 6:30 PM in the second round on the Big Ten Network. Alexis Markowski led Nebraska with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Amiah Hargrove added 13 points, Alberte Rindal added 12 points and Freshman Britt Prince chipped in 10 points. Nebraska went 33-60 from the field for 55%, 13-31 from 42% and 5-11 from the free throw line for 45%. The Cornhuskers pulled down 39 rebounds, dished out 26 assists, 6 steals, 6 blocks and committed 14 turnovers.
Destiny Adams led Rutgers with 25 points and 10 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season. Awa Sidibe and Mya Petticord added 11 points each. Rutgers finished 21-59 from the field for 35%, 5-17 from three-point range for 29% and 13-19 from the free throw line for 68%. Rutgers pulled down 30 rebounds, dished out 11 steals, 9 steals, 3 blocks and committed 11 turnovers. Nebraska took a 6-0 lead with 8:28 left in the first quarter forcing Rutgers to call a timeout. Nebraska led 8-2 with 6:01 left in the quarter as Rutgers took a 9-8 lead which was their only lead of the game at 3:31 mark when Mya Petticord drilled a three pointer. The Rutgers lead lasted 19 seconds as Albetre Rindal drilled a three pointer to but the Cornhuskers on top to lead 11-9 at the 3:12 mark. Rutgers tied the game 11-11 on a Janae Walker layup with 2:47 left in the first quarter. Britt Prince hit a three pointer to give Nebraska the lead for good leading 22-13 at the end of the first quarter. Nebraska outscored Rutgers 17-11 in the second quarter to lead 39-24 at halftime. Nebraska scored 45 second half points with 22 in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter. Rutgers scored 34 second half points with 13 in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter.
#11 Iowa rolls over #14 Seed Wisconsin in the Final Game in the First Round of the Big Ten Tournament The #11 Seed Iowa Hawkeyes had no problems with #14 Seed Wisconsin Badgers in the first round of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament with an 81-54 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Wednesday Evening. Iowa is 21-9 and will play #6 Seed Michigan State tomorrow night at 9 PM In the second round. Wisconsin ends the season at 13-17. Lucy Olsen led the Hawkeyes with 19 points. Iowa was red hot from the field throughout the game as Hawkeyes went 35-61 from the field for 57%, 11-20 from three-point range for 55% and 0-1 from the free throw line. Iowa pulled down 41 rebounds, dished out 25 assists, 10 steals, 9 blocks and committed 15 turnovers. Serah Williams led Wisconsin with 22points. Wisconsin finished 21-55 from the field for 38%, 6-13 from three-point range for 46% and 6-9 from the free throw line for 66%. Wisconsin pulled down 19 rebounds, dished out 18 assists, 9 steals, 6 blocks and 13 committed turnovers.
Wisconsin opened the game with a Natalie Leuzinger Three Pointer 18 seconds into the game. Iowa took the lead 4-3 on a Kylie Feuerbach layup at the 8:38 mark. Serah Williams gave Wisconsin a 5-4 lead followed by Carter McCray s turnaround jumper to give the Badgers 7-4 lead with 7:19 left in the first quarter. Lucy Olsen put the Hawkeyes within one 7-6 at the 6:54 mark. Tess Meyers drained a three pointer to make it 9-6 with 6:37 left in the first half. That was the last time Wisconsin scored in the first quarter as Iowa held the Badgers scoreless for the rest of the quarter. Iowa finished the half on a 21-2 in the last six minutes in fifty-four seconds and 19-0 run in the last six and a half minutes as Iowa lead 25-9 after the first quarter.
Wisconsin scored the first four points of the second quarter to get within 11 points 25-14 with 9:04 left in the second quarter. Feuerbach scored on the driving layup to give the Hawkeyes a 13-point lead with 8:40 left before Serah Williams got the Badgers back to an 11-point deficit with 8:12 left trailing 27-16. Iowa pushed the lead to 20 points as the Hawkeyes went to halftime up 43-23 outscoring Wisconsin 18-14 in the second quarter. Lucy Olsen led Iowa with 14 Points and Serah Williams had 10 points for Wisconsin. Iowa went 7-10 from three-point range in the first half and 18-31 from the field for 58%. Iowa controlled the game outscoring the Badgers 22-16 going 10-18 from the field in the third quarter to lead 65-39 going into the final ten minutes of the game. Iowa outscored Wisconsin 16-15 in the fourth quarter as the Hawkeyes pulled the starters and went to the bench.
Bloomington South Boys Basketball takes Down City Rival Bloomington North in the Sectional Opener The Bloomington South Panthers beat the Bloomington North Cougars 70-49 Tuesday Night in the Class 4A Boys Basketball Sectional opener on the Southside of Bloomington. The Panthers improve to 17-8 on the season and will face Martinsville in the Semifinals on Friday Night at 7:30 PM. Bloomington North ends their season 7-17. Vincent Moutardier led the Panthers with 24 points and 8 rebounds. TJ Spears and Duncan Combs added 9 points apiece. Tucker Simpson and Jack Clark scored 8 points apiece. Bloomington South finished the game 26-43 for 60%, 9-15 from three-point range 60% and 9-11 from the free throw line for 81%. The Panthers outrebounded the Cougars 30-21.
Senior Luke Lindeman led Bloomington North with 20 points and 8 rebounds in his final game as Cougar. JR Cross added 11 points as Bloomington North went 18-50 from the field for 36%, 4-21 from three-point range for 19% and 9-12 from the free throw line for 75%. The Panthers jumped out to 14-4 lead draining four their first five shots from beyond the arc to lead 22-11 after the first eight minutes. The Panthers outscored the Cougars 17-9 in the second quarter to lead 39-20 at halftime. The Panthers led 56-34 at the end of the third quarter and scored 14 fourth quarter points as the cruised to the win over their city rivals.
In Class 3A at Cascade Indianapolis Washington beat Edgewood 64-56 as the Mustangs end the season with a 12-10 record. Carl Norris led Edgewood with 14 points and 7 rebounds, Kam Ranard added 12 points, AJ Norris scored 9 points and Caden Jones added 7 points. The Mustangs finished the game 21-53 from the field 5-26 from three-point range with 22 turnovers. Indianapolis Washington improves to 11-12 on the season and will face Northview in the Semifinals on Friday Night got 19 points from Junior Roosevelt Franklin to lead the Continentals. In Class 1A Clay City beat Lighthouse Christian 73-39 in the Sectional Opener at White River Valley. The Lions who ended the regular season with a 78-27 loss on February 20 at Clay City finish the season with a 10-14 record while Clay City improves to 22-1. Brock Banks led Lighthouse Christian with 21 points and Aiden Jones added 9 points. Clay City was led by Bryce Wiram with 24 points and Ethan Edwards added 18 Points.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Signee Maya Makalusky named 2025 Max Preps Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls’ basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades. Maya Makalusky of Hamilton Southeastern HS in Fishers is the 2024-25 Indiana MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4 senior led the Royals to a 27-1 record and appearance in the Class 4A state semifinals. For the season, Makalusky averaged 22.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. A finalist for Indiana Miss Basketball, she broke the school record for career scoring with 1,933 points. Hamilton Southeastern went 83-16 in Makalusky’s four years in the program.
Headed to Indiana, Makalusky is regarded as one of the top 50 seniors in the country by 247Sports. Each state’s MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released in April. Past selections include 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player A’ja Wilson (2014) as well as 2024 All-WNBA first team picks Caitlin Clark (2020), Napheesa Collier (2015), Breanna Stewart (2012) and Alyssa Thomas (2010).

Indiana University Volleyball Spring Exhibition set for Wilkinson Hall The Indiana Volleyball team will host defending NCAA national runner-up, Louisville, in a spring exhibition at Wilkinson Hall on Saturday, April 5th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be open to the public with tickets on sale now. The two sides have agreed to play four full sets to 25 points. There is potential for a fifth set to be played to 15. It will be the first spring home exhibition at Wilkinson Hall that’s open to the public since the end of the COVID-19 restrictions. “We are excited to host a spring match on April 5th,” head coach Steve Aird said. “Louisville had a fantastic season and we feel it will be a great event for fans of both programs. Our returning core has been training hard, and we are proud of their growth. It is a great opportunity for us to compete before we bring in some exceptional talent this summer. The support from the community and our student section has been incredible and we hope they are excited to get back to Wilkinson Hall.”
Louisville will make the trip to Bloomington under new head coach Dan Meske. After eight seasons as the associate coach, Meske takes over the program for the now Nebraska boss, Dani Busboom-Kelly. IU and Louisville last played in the regular season in 2008. The two sides played every season from 1989 to 1994. IU will have a new look roster in the fall; with at least five freshmen and multiple transfers arriving this summer. However, fans will see familiar faces against the Cardinals in outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles, opposite hitter Avry Tatum and middle blocker Madi Sell. All ticket sales will be general admission. Tickets are 10 dollars for adults and five dollars for youth. All students and faculty get in for free with valid IU ID. Doors will open one hour before the game.
