Balanced Effort Leads #9 Seed Indiana over #8 Seed Oregon in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament The # 9 Seed Indiana Hoosiers handled #8 Seed Oregon Ducks 78-62 on Thursday afternoon at the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers face Top Seed and Big Ten Regular Season Champion USC Today at Noon in the Quarterfinals for the 10th straight time. Indiana is 19-11 on the season and Oregon is 19-11 as well as both teams are projected for the NCAA Tournament. This is Indiana’s first ever win against Oregon in four meetings as the Hoosiers avenge a 54-47 loss on January 24, in Eugene. Indiana is 24-31 all time in the Big Ten Tournament since it began in 1995, and they are 3-4 all-time as Number 9 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers were the #9 Seed in 1996, 2004, 2005 and 2007. Yarden Garzon led the Hoosiers with 18 points, Shay Ciezki added 17 points, Chloe Moore-McNeil scored 13 points and Sydney Parrish scored 10 points and beats her former team for the first time in her career. Indiana finished the game 25-56 from the field for 44%, 11-25 from three-point range for 44% and 17-18 from the free throw line for 94%. Indiana pulled down 29 rebounds, dished out 18 assists, 6 steals, 5 blocks and commit 12 turnovers.
Parrish played 2 years at Oregon before coming back to Indiana for her final three years of college basketball and she did not want to go 0-2 against her former team. “It’s always fun getting to compete against your old team. I think a lot of transfers feel that sometimes, but it’s nice to be able to come to Indy and play them,” Sydney Parrish said after the game. “It felt good to play my last game against Oregon, which felt like home with a Hoosier crowd, and that was really fun.” Parrish added. Peyton Scott led Oregon with 16 points and Ehis Etute added 14 points off the bench. Oregon finished 22-55 from the field for 40%, 4-8 from three-point range for 50% and 14-17 from the free throw line for 82%. The Hoosiers post players got in foul trouble with Karoline Striplin and Lilly Meister picking up three fouls in the first half and both of them picked their fourth foul in the third quarter. 6-4 Freshman Faith Wiseman from Martinville, Indiana and Indian Creek High School came in had to provide key minutes to help the Hoosiers and she did. Wiseman coming to the game appeared in 10 games all season playing a total of 28 minutes with 3 points and 7 rebounds. Wiseman played 10 minutes, pulled down 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal. “I thought Faith came in as a freshman and did some really great things and kind of helped us hang on.” Indiana Head Cach Teri Moren said after the game. Indiana came out on fire jumping out to a 23-11 first quarter lead as Shay Ciezki scored 11 points going 3-4 from downtown as the Hoosiers were 8-17 from the field for 47%, 5-10 from downtown for 50% and 2-2 from the free throw line. Oregon outscored Indiana 19-17 in the second quarter as Shay Ciezki led the Hoosiers with 15 first half points and Ehis Etute led Oregon with 10 points. The Hoosiers were 15-29 from the field for 51%, 6-13 from three-point range for 46% and 4-4 from the free throw line 100%. Wiseman played 2 minutes and Yarden Grazon picked up third foul in the second quarter.
Oregon was 9-20 from the field for 45%, 1-1 from three-point range and 11-13 from the free throw line for 84%. Oregon outscored Indiana 18-16 in the third quarter as Karoline Striplin picked up her fourth foul at the 9:43 mark and Lilly Meister picked up her fourth foul at the 4:40 mark of the third quarter as the Hoosiers led 56-48 at the end of the third. Indiana outscored Oregon 22-14 in the fourth quarter and 38-32 in the second half as the Hoosiers did not hit a field goal for the last 2:59 of the game. The game had 1 tie and 1 lead change early on as Indiana led for 37:24 and the Ducks led for 38 Seconds as Oregon makes their first Big Ten Tournament in their first year in the conference and they will have to wait until next season to get the chance for their first ever Big Ten Tournament Win.
Indiana Welcomes Ohio State to Bloomington for Senior Day and Mike Woodson’s final home game The Indiana Hoosiers will honor Nine Senior Players and Nine Senior Managers as they host Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday Afternoon at 3:45 PM in Simon Skjdot Assembly Hall in the final regular season home game. It will be the final home game in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for Indiana Head Coach Mike Woodson who announced he is stepping down at the end of the season after a four-year run as Hoosier Head Coach. Seniors Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway have been with Woodson the longest, Oumar Ballo, Luke Goode Langdon Hatton and Dallas James all transferred in this season and Shaan Bruke, Jackson Creel and Jaden Bobbett are all Walk On’s.
Woodson played at Indiana from 1976-1980 for Hall of Fame Coch Bob Knight. Woodson’s last home game came March 2, 1980 when he scored 21 points against Ohio State in a 76-73 overtime win over the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten Conference Title. While there is no conference title at steak this time there is seeding implications for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament on the line next week in Indianapolis. Indiana and Ohio State are both 9-10 and the winner will get the number 9 seed and play next Thursday at Noon against the 8th seed Oregon Ducks who are 11-8 going into their final game on Sunday a Washington. Oregon is tied with Illinois at 11-8 in the standings but the Illini beat the Ducks earlier in the season and UCLA who could finish with the same record swept the Ducks earlier in the season locking them into the 8 seed for the tournament. The loser of the Indiana-Ohio State game will be the Number 10 seed and will face the 15 seed on Wednesday at 6 PM meaning they would have win five games in five days to become Big Ten Champion.
Indiana is 18-12 and fighting for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers made the tournament in Woodson’s first two years and missed out a season ago and chose not to accept any other postseason tournament bids. Ohio State is in the same boat at 17-13 and this is a game that whoever wins will be on the right side and whoever loses will be on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament Bubble. The Hoosiers are 4-3 since Woodson announced he was stepping down on February 7, The Hoosiers have been playing better as off late but lost a tough game at Oregon Tuesday Night 73-64 when Oregon used a 10-0 with 8 points coming from Guard Jackson Shelstad to lead the Ducks to the win. Oumar Ballo is averaging 13.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game as he leads the team in all three categories. Ballo had 10 points and 12 rebounds against the Ducks for his 10th double-double of the season and 44th of his career. Malik Reneau averages 13 points per game, Mackenize Mgbako averages 12.3 points. Myles Rice leads the team with 1.1 steals per game while averaging 10.7 points per game. Trey Galloway averages 4.5 assists per game and averages 8.3 points per game. Ohio State has won their last two games including 116-114 double overtime win over Nebraska at home Tuesday Night. Bruce Thornton led Ohio State with 29 points as the Buckeyes had four score 20 points or more and five in double figures. The Buckeyes were 36-68 from the field for 53%, 12-32 for 37% and 32-44 from the free throw line for 72%. Indiana beat Ohio State 77-76 in overtime on January 17, in Columbus. Ohio State led 35-29 at halftime and the Hoosiers outscored the Buckeyes 42-36 in the second half and 6-5 in overtime. Luke Goode hit a big three pointer with more than a minute left in overtime and Anthony Leal blocked John Mobley Jr’s shot with a second left to seal the win over Indiana. The second time it is a must win both teams and what will be a very emotional day for Mike Woodson, the IU Seniors and the Hoosier Fan Base as the Mike Woodson era is coming to a close and hopefully the Hoosiers can win on Senior Day for its players and its Head Coach to send him out on a high note.
#5 Seed Michigan fights off #12 Washington in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Second Round The #5 Seed Michigan Wolverines held off the #12 Seed Washington Huskies 66-58 Thursday afternoon at the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis presented by TIAA. Michigan will play #4 Seed Maryland Tomorrow at 2:30 PM in the Quarterfinals. Michigan is 21-9 while Washington drops to 19-13. Big Ten Freshman of the Year Olivia Olson led the Wolverines with 21 points, Syla Swords added 15 points and Jordan Hobbs scored 11 points. Michigan finished 26-58 for 44%, 4-16 from three-point range for 25% and 10-12 from the free throw line 83%. Michigan pulled down 35 rebounds, dished out 19 assists, 6 steals 2 blocks and committed 13 turnovers.
Dalayah Daniels led Washington with 22 points and 10 rebounds for her 8th double-double of the season. Elle Ladine added 16 points and Sayvia Sellers added 11 points. Washington finished the game 23-57 from the field for 40%, 4-18 from three-point range for 22% and 8-9 from the free throw line for 89%. Michigan pulled down 31 rebounds, dished out 14 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks and committed 17 turnovers. Michigan led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and both teams scored 15 points apiece in the second quarter as Michigan led 29-28 at halftime. Michigan outscored Washington 23-13 in the third quarter as the Wolverines led 52-41 at the end of the third quarter. Washington outscored Michigan 17-14 in the fourth quarter as Wolverines did not score a field goal in the final 3:45. There were nine ties and six lead changes as Michigan led for 28:26 and Washington led for 9:40. Washington never went away as fighting all game long to keep the game close as Michigan led by 14 points with 7:12 left in the fourth quarter 57-43.
#10 Seed Nebraska knocks off #7 Seed Illinois in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament The #10 Seed Nebraska Cornhuskers knocked off #7 Seed Illinois Fighting Illini 74-70 Thursday Evening in the Second Round of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament Presented by TIAA. Nebraska will face #2 Seed UCLA tonight at 6:30 PM in the Quarterfinals. Nebraska improves to 21-10 and Illinois drops to 21-9 overall and have lost four straight games. Britt Prince led Nebraska with 17 points along with 11 points apiece from Jessica Petrie and Petra Bozan. Alexis Markowski added 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 seals and 2 blocks. Nebraska finished 28-57 form the field for 49%, 8-16 from three-point range for 50% and 10-12 from the free throw line for 83%. The Cornhuskers pulled down 30 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, 6 steals, 5 blocks and committed 15 turnovers.

Iowa is 21-9 and will play #3 Seed Ohio State tonight at 9 PM. Michigan State falls to 21-9 overall. Lucy Olsen led the Hawkeyes with 21 points, Hannah Stuelke scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Taylor McCabe added 12 points and Ava Heiden added 11 points off the bench. Iowa finished the game 26-55 from the field for 47%, 6-25 From three-point range and 16-21 from the free throw line for 76%. Iowa pulled down 32 rebounds, dished out 20 assists, 16 steals, 4 blocks and committed 17 turnovers.

Iowa finished the Spartans off in the fourth quarter outscoring them 20-13 and became second double digit seed to advance joining 10 Seed Nebraska and third team to knock the better seed as #9 Indiana beat #8 Oregon to start the day.
Taylor Trojans Men’s Lacrosse tally Blowout Win Over Midland Taylor had little trouble finding the win column on Thursday afternoon at Wheeler Field, making quick work of visiting Midland in a 14-2 victory. Will Saxby found the net 1:45 into the contest and added a second goal later in the first, as Taylor put eight scores on the board before allowing one and was never threatened. TU held a 53-12 advantage in shots and was led offensively by Saxby, who posted five goals in just seven shots and had four ground balls. Jackson Dale, Jude Wood and Jack Kaiser each scored twice, while Lucas Pacer had three assists, seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Will Vanderkodde was also active with one goal, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Taylor (5-2) will play at RV Mount Vernon Nazarene (6-0) on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 pm.
