Indiana University Women’s Basketball makes the NCAA Tournament and will Face Utah on Friday Indiana women’s basketball has reached its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers have earned a No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 seed Utah in Columbia, S.C. The winner of IU’s game takes on either No. 1 seed South Carolina or No. 16 seed Tennessee Tech. Indiana (19-12) ranks No. 27 in Torvik and No. 35 in the NET, while Utah (22-8) is No. 31 on Torvik and 26 in the NET. IU’s biggest wins of the season came over Iowa on the road and at home against Ohio State. The Hoosiers entered the Big Ten Tournament with some uncertainty lingering over their bubble positioning, but their win over Oregon in Indianapolis seemingly removed all doubts.

The Utes faced two Big Ten teams this season they lost to Northwestern in mid-November, and they defeated Washington a month later. Utah went 13-5 in the Big 12, and dropped its first conference tournament game against Texas Tech. The team’s best wins this season came against Notre Dame in the Cayman Islands Classic, Iowa State on the road, and Princeton at home. Utah is No. 32 in the nation in scoring offense with 76.7 points per game, while IU is No. 168 in scoring defense at 64.1 points per game allowed. Indiana ranks 88th in the country in scoring offense with 70.3 points per game, while Utah gives up 63.1 points per game, good for No. 142 in the nation.

Indiana University Men’s Basketball left out of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament The Mike Woodson era is over. The NCAA Tournament bracket was announced on Sunday evening, and Indiana was left out of the field. The Hoosiers (19-13) were the second highest graded team left out of the field, the CBS broadcast crew revealed. The Hoosiers had been projected by the majority of bracketologists to make the field.  But North Carolina, Texas and Xavier all got the nod over IU.  And West Virginia was the first team out, one spot ahead of the Indiana. The news came as a surprise to many. “I gotta say Indiana is the one (team left out) that sticks out to me,” Seth Davis said on the CBS broadcast.  “They had a win at Michigan State, at home against Purdue.  (They were) 4-13 in Quad-1, so more (Quad-1 wins) than North Carolina, and unlike North Carolina, who had a Quad-3 loss at home to Stanford, Indiana did not have any losses outside of Quad-1, so I’m curious to hear the (Committee’s) reasoning.”

Indiana will not play in the NIT or any other postseason tournaments; a source confirms with The South-Central Indiana News Network. A late season surge that saw IU win five of their final seven regular season games including wins over Michigan State and Purdue was not enough to put Indiana in the field.  Indiana suffered multiple double-digit losses during the season that hurt their profile, including to Louisville, Gonzaga, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Indiana made the field in each of Woodson’s first two seasons as head coach but missed each of his last two years.  His retirement was announced last month. AD Scott Dolson will now turn his full attention to finding a replacement for Woodson.
