A combination of Hess and Troutt in the circle retired the first three Boilermakers that stepped up to the plate in the top of the seventh inning to secure the Indiana win. Aly VanBrandt’s notched her 11th home run of the season, putting her in a tie for the most on the team this season with Avery Parker. The homer improved VanBrandt’s season RBI total to 45. Ellie Goins home run accounts for her sixth of the 2026 campaign. Troutt improved her season record to 8-6.

Indiana University Baseball Wins the Series Opener at Maryland In what was one of the most complete performances of the season, the Indiana Baseball team (14-19, 6-10 B1G) rolled to a commanding 11-3 win over Maryland (15-19, 2-11 B1G) on Friday evening at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. The Hoosiers are now 4-2 on Friday evenings in conference play. IU’s offense has started to head in the right direction over the last few weeks. A massive sixth inning, that featured three of its five home runs in the game, helped break the contest open in the right direction. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie smashed a two-strike, two-out, three-run home run to give IU an 8-1 lead. Redshirt freshman designated hitter Brayden Ricketts followed that with a solo shot to put the game on ice.
Graduate student left-handed pitcher Tony Neubeck continues to get the team off to a great start in weekend openers. He spun a six-inning, one-run gem to earn his fourth victory of the year. It was his fourth quality start in six starts during conference play. Neubeck has 39 strikeouts to just nine walks in Big Ten action this season. Late runs in the ninth inning allowed graduate student right-handed pitcher Gavin Seebold to get the final seven outs of the game with little trouble. He returned to his fantastic form with three strikeouts amidst a hitless performance on the mound.
Indiana University Wrestler Jacob Moran Named Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Winner Indiana graduate student Jacob Moran has been named a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree by the conference office on Thursday. Moran is one of 14 winners of the award presented by the Big Ten. Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever Agree to a One Year 1.4 million-Dollar Contract to Stay with the Indiana Fever Kelsey Mitchell is fresh off a career season, and the Indiana Fever are now rewarding her for it. The two parties are reportedly finalizing a new one-year supermax deal worth $1.4 million. This would make Mitchell one of the first WNBA players to make $1 million a year after the new collective bargaining agreement was passed between the league and the players association last month. Las Vegas Aces guard and former Notre Dame star Jackie Young became the first on Thursday with a $1.19 million deal. Mitchell was named an All-Star the last three straight seasons, helping lead the Fever to the WNBA semifinals last year. Her 20 points per game was not only a career-best but also put her in the league MVP conversation. She finished fifth in voting and was on the All-WNBA First Team. Mitchell’s teammate and fellow All-Star Caitlin Clark said last month that the Fever’s top priority was re-signing Mitchell once free agency was allowed to re-open. It’s now the first major deal the Fever have done since the CBA was passed. The Cincinnati native has spent her entire 8-year career with the Fever after Indiana drafted her second overall from Ohio State in the 2018 WNBA Draft. The Fever season is set to tip off Saturday, May 9 at noon in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever host the Dallas Wings.

He started seven of 14 games for the Colts in 2025, finishing with 55 tackles (34 solo), 1.5 sacks, and one interception for 32 yards and one touchdown. His 715 snaps ranked 55th among all cornerbacks.
No. 1 Taylor University Baseball Capitalizes on Goshen Miscues in 12-2 Win No. 1 Taylor defeated Goshen 12-2 on Friday at Sarge Yoder Field, extending its winning streak to 18 games and scoring 11 or more runs for a 10th consecutive contest. The Trojans (36-3, 24-2 CL) did their damage without an extra-base hit, instead manufacturing runs through patience at the plate and timely hitting. Fletcher Roemmich led the offense (2 for 5, 3 RBIs), recording his fourth game this season with at least three RBIs. Ben Kennedy drove in two (1 for 4, 2 RBIs), and Quinn Kunkel (2 for 2, RBI) and Kaden Wu (2 RBIs) also contributed to the plate production.
Brody Fine was solid on the mound for the Trojans, yet again. The right-hander improved to 8-0, the most wins in the Crossroads League, tossing four scoreless innings with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed. Jake Boyer earned his third save of the season and 11th of his career, working the final three innings and allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. TU broke through in the second after the first two batters were retired. Kennedy reached on an error, Jace Schrock walked and Kunkel singled to load the bases. Wu drew an RBI walk to open the scoring before Roemmich delivered a clutch single to left to plate two more for a 3-0 lead. Brayden Manning scored on another Goshen error in the third to push it to 4-0, and Kunkel’s RBI single in the fifth made it 5-0. A throwing error by the first baseman on Wu’s groundout allowed two more to score in the frame, and TU took a 7-0 lead into the sixth.
The Trojans put the game away with a five-run sixth on four hits. Sutter singled and Manning walked before Jordan Malott singled to load the bases. Brennan Frickel drew an RBI walk, Manning scored on a wild pitch, and Kennedy singled to center to drive in two more. Roemmich once again capped the frame with an RBI single through the left side to make it 12-0. Goshen scratched across two in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Steven Lopez and an RBI double by Barron Welsh, but Boyer retired the side in order in the seventh to close it out. The Trojans outhit the Maple Leafs 9-8 in the contest, with seven of those base knocks posted across the fifth and sixth frames. Roemmich extended his streak of reaching base in every game this season. Kennedy has now reached safely in 22 consecutive games, and Sutter’s on-base streak reached 12 straight.
