Indiana Football Travels to Maryland

Indiana Football travels to Maryland to face the Terrapins at Noon tomorrow on the Big Ten Network. Indiana is 2-5 and 0-4 in the Big Ten and needs to win at four out of the next five games to have a chance at a bowl game.  Quarterback Jack Tuttle is week to week after he suffered a foot injury against Ohio State last Saturday Night. The Hoosiers will turn to true freshman Donaven McCulley if Tuttle or Michael Penix Jr is unable to play. Penix Jr has missed the last two games due to a shoulder injury. Redshirt Sophomore Grant Gremel saw snaps at quarterback in the 54-7 loss to Ohio State.  Maryland is 4-3 and 1-3 in the Big Ten and coming off a 34-16 loss at Minnesota Last Saturday and looking to snap a 3-game losing streak.  Indiana leads the all-time series 7-2 and won in College Park 34-28 on October 19th, 2019. The Hoosiers have won 3 in a row against Maryland including a 27-11 victory in Bloomington November 28th, 2020.  It will be a homecoming for Redshirt Junior Offensive Lineman Aidan Rafferty who is from Kensington Maryland.  Tight End Peyton Hendershot became Indiana’s career leader in Tight Ends with his 119th catch against Ohio State. Hendershot has 1,277 yards and 12 touchdowns and is only behind Ted Bosler who had 1,337 Yards and 15 Touchdowns from 2010-2013. Linebacker Micah McFadden leads the Big Ten with 12 Tackles for loss and is 4th nationally. Maryland’s Quarterback is Taulia Tagovailoa who has thrown for 1,965 yards 15 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He is younger brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.  Tayon Fleet-Davis is the leading rusher with 359 yards and 5 touchdowns. Maryland’s top wide receiver is Dontay Demus Jr with 507 yards and 3 touchdowns. 

All Three Monroe County Schools in Action for Football Sectional Semifinals

Its win or go home for all three Monroe County High Schools as Football Sectional Semifinals kick off tonight and all three games are 7:30 PM Kickoffs. After a week off both Bloomington schools get back to work as Bloomington North host Evansville North while Bloomington South travels to Castle. The North Cougars are 6-3 and averaging 36.7 points per game while giving up 30.9. Evansville North comes in with 5-4 record and scoring 26.1 points and giving up 20.1.  Bloomington South is 6-2 and looks to snap a two-game losing streak, The Panthers are 6-2 and scoring 28.9 points per game and giving up 20.4. Castle is 7-2 and has a two-game winning streak, the Knights average 32.0 points and give up 12.0. Both of these matchups are in the Class 5A Sectional 15 Semifinals and the winners will meet next Friday for the Sectional Championship. In Class 3A Edgewood will host Vincennes Lincoln on the red turf. Edgewood is 2-7 after a 16-0 win a Washington last Friday while Vincennes Lincoln is 2-8 after a 48-20 win at Princeton. The Winner of this game will face the winner of the Brown County-Owen Valley matchup in Sectional Championship.

Indianapolis Colts Host Tennessee Titans

The Indianapolis Colts will host the Tennessee Titans this Sunday 1 PM at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and the game will be on CBS. The Colts lost to the Titans 28-16 in Nashville in Week 3. The Colts are 3-4 and have won 3 of the last four after an 0-3 start. The Colts beat the San Francisco 49ers 30-18 last Sunday Night. Carson Wentz has thrown for 1,695 yards and 11 touchdowns with just 1 interception. Wentz ran for a touchdown in the win over the 49ers. Jonathan Taylor has 579 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns and Michael Pittman Jr has 508 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Colts receivers. The Titans are 5-2 and have a three-game winning streak after beating the Kansas City Chiefs 27-3 at home last week. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 1,737 yards, 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Derrick Henry is one of the NFL’s best running backs he has rushed for 869 yards, 10 touchdowns and has thrown a touchdown pass. AJ Brown has 354 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. This is a big AFC South showdown and a Titans win Sunday gives them a 3-game lead in the division.

Cross County State Championships in Terre Haute

The IHSAA State Cross Country Championships are tomorrow at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Championship course in Terre Haute. The Boys will start at Noon. Bloomington North and Bloomington South made it as team finishing in the top 6 of the Semi State.  Bloomington North won the State title in 1980 and posted the 2nd lowest score ever with 34 points. Ken Waterhouse of Bloomington South is only individual state champion when he won in 1981. Columbus North won the title in 2020 beating Carmel 63-112. The Girls will start at 3 PM with Bloomington North advancing as a team along with Lilly Myers of Bloomington South and Clara Crain of Edgewood who advanced as individuals. Clara’s older sister Annalyssa finished 2nd in 2019 as junior at Edgewood, she now runs for the University of Illinois.  Jennifer Warthan from Bloomington North won the state title in 1991 but Monroe County has yet to win a state title in Girls Cross Country. Carmel won the title in 2020 beating Carroll Fort Wayne 52-77
