Bloomington South Shutout by Lake Central in the IHSAA Class 4A Baseball State Championship Game It was a tough ending to a tremendous season for Bloomington South baseball, falling 4-0 to Lake Central in the IHSAA Class 4A state championship game on Saturday at Victory Field in Indianapolis. Indians’ sophomore Owen Kopercinski was brilliant, pitching a complete game, striking out seven while surrendering just three hits and two walks. He did not allow a base runner in the second, third, fourth or seventh innings. South’s best chances to score came in the first and fifth innings when they put two runners on. Both of those chances came with two outs, though, with Kopercinski being able to get soft groundouts to end each threat. LC led two batters into the bottom of the first. Keegan O’Bryan tripled, and Parker Robinson singled to bring him home. They added another run in the frame, then solo additions in the fifth and sixth. Lake Central won 4A titles in 2012 and 2024. Bloomington’s lone title came before it was even South high school, as it was just one Bloomington in 1972.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Set for a Big Week of Visits from Top Prospects After signing the highest-rated freshman class of Teri Moren’s tenure for this year, Indiana women’s basketball is looking to keep that momentum going on the recruiting trail. The Hoosiers are entering a big week of unofficial visits with some highly rated recruits in the class of 2028, 2029, and 2030, a source told The South-Central Indiana News Network. The headliner of that group is guard Kristen Winston, whom ESPN rated the No. 1 player in the class of 2029. The Hoover, Ala. native is visiting Bloomington on Thursday. Indiana sees star upside in Winston, as a true three-level scorer and someone who also impacts the game without scoring, along with her 6-foot stature and high-level mentality for a player entering her sophomore year of high school.
Indiana is hosting recruits every day of the coming week, with six players visiting in the next five days. 2028 guard Love Best (No. 32 ESPN; 5-foot-6 from Tualatin, Ore.) kicks it off on Monday. 2030 guard/wing Aryelle Franklin (6-foot-2 from Dallas) visits on Tuesday. IU has two players on campus on Wednesday: 2028 wing Marlee Coleman (No. 25 ESPN; 6-foot-1 from Tinley Park, Ill.) and 2029 wing Geralynn Byers-Veal (No. 6 ESPN; 6-foot-1 from Austin, Texas). And after Winston’s visit Thursday, IU brings in 2030 wing Taylor Nash (5-foot-10 from Tualatin, Ore.) on Friday. The class of 2030 players are entering their freshman years of high school, and major recruiting platforms do not yet have prospect rankings for those classes. But IU, per source, sees Nash as a future top-five recruit and Franklin as a future top-25 player.
This isn’t the first crop of high school visitors the Hoosiers have hosted this offseason. Class of 2027 four-star guards Brookeslee Colvin (No. 25 ESPN, No. 29 247Sports) and Anna Moser (No. 79 ESPN) took official visits last week. IU got off to a strong start for the class of 2027, landing a commitment from forward Finley Parker (No. 27 247Sports, No. 61 ESPN) in early April.

Indiana University Football Gets a Commitment from 2027 Cornerback Ramir Harris-Dupree Class of 2027 cornerback Ramir Harris-Dupree announced his commitment to Indiana on Saturday. Harris-Dupree attends Grimsley H.S. in Greensboro, N.C. As a junior in 2025, he posted 54 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Evansville Mater Dei Wins the IHSAA Class 2A Baseball State Championship For the first time since 1999 Evansville Mater Dei is an IHSAA state champion in baseball. The No. 1-ranked Wildcats won a thriller, 6-3 in 8 innings, over Bluffton on Saturday at Victory Field in Indianapolis. Mater Dei (30-3) was down to their final out in the top of the seventh inning when a Jackson Schaefer swinging bunt infield single scored Spencer Schiff, tying the game at three. In the extra inning, the Wildcats scored three runs with two outs. Max Miller delivered the game-winning single, with Dylan Murphy adding a 2-RBI single for insurance runs. There may not be a way to sum up this moment properly. Mater Dei coach Adam Wildeman was searching for the right words but failing. His focus was being pulled in multiple directions as he navigated a full concourse of well wishes and hugs. Same for Max Miller, a senior who walked off this field with dejection last year but is now placing a jersey inside the Victory Field trophy case. You can pinpoint to a dozen others who may spend the entire offseason trying to describe what occurred on Saturday. Because with their backs against the wall, the Wildcats found the answer. Again.
