Berta Saenz de Santa Maria Signs with Indiana University Field Hockey Indiana Field Hockey coach Kayla Bashore announced the signing of Berta Saenz de Santa Maria on Wednesday. Saenz de Santa Maria is the ninth signee of the program’s 2026 class alongside Elle Obenour, Helen Grahe, Jessie Mauro, Elise Eves, Gabriela Garayo Aranceta, Karly Redman, Agustina Gamonal and Isa Smulders. Saenz de Santa Maria will arrive in Bloomington in August. She is a midfielder from Santander, Spain and attended Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. She played club for Real Sociedad Tenis Magdalena under coach Tomas González. In her club career, she won two U16 outdoor championships. As a U18 player, she got a third-place finish in both indoors and outdoors. Her team claimed a cup victory at the U18 level. At IU, she intends to major in Nutrition Science. Her parents are Noelia and Ángel and she has two siblings, Teresa y Ángel. Why She Picked IU: “As soon as I had the opportunity, I was delighted to go to Indiana. Six Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Players Participate in the NBA Summer Leagues Six former Hoosiers saw the floor in NBA Summer League action this month across three different locations. Here’s how they performed: Sam Alexis, Oklahoma City-Appeared in three games in Las Vegas and posted 3.3 points in 10.2 minutes per contest. He shot 57.1% from the field while adding 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks. Also played in a game in Salt Lake City and posted two points, five rebounds and an assist in 9.7 minutes. Reed Bailey, Phoenix-Played in three games, averaged 6.5 minutes, and did not score. He averaged 1.0 rebounds per game. Tucker DeVries, Boston-Saw action in four games and averaged 8.8 points over 19.3 minutes. He shot 38.7% from the field overall including 33.3% from three. He added 1.5 assists and 1.0 rebounds per game. Luke Goode, Los Angeles Lakers-Goode did not score in Las Vegas, averaging 6.6 minutes in two games and pitching in 1.5 rebounds. In two games in Sacramento he posted 6.0 points in 17.5 minutes per contest while shooting 57.1% from three (4 of 7). There he added 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists. Miller Kopp, Houston-Appeared in five games for his hometown team and averaged 5.8 points over 13.9 minutes per contest. He shot 32.1% overall including 26.9% from three. Added .8 rebounds and .8 assists. Lamar Wilkerson, Oklahoma City- He appeared in four games in Las Vegas and averaged 2.3 points over 14.2 minutes per game. He shot 16.7% overall and 9.1% from three. He added one rebound and two assists per game. Also played in a game in Salt Lake City and had two points in six minutes while adding a rebound and two assists.
Indiana Fever Set Multiple Franchise Records in Dominating Win Over the Connecticut Sun The Indiana Fever had a memorable night against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. The Fever beat the Sun 123-88 in Indiana’s final game ahead of the WNBA All-Star break. The 123 points are the most points the Fever have scored in a single game in franchise history. The Fever started fast and build a 24-point halftime lead, taking a 70-46 advantage into the locker room. The 70 first-half points are the most points in a single half for the Fever in franchise history.
Fever guard Caitlin Clark led all scorers with 27 points. She also had a game-high 11 assists. Meanwhile, fellow Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell finished with 23 points. She was 3-of-6 from three-point range, setting a WNBA record making at least three three-pointers in 11 straight games. Fever center Aliyah Boston added 22 points and hauled in six rebounds. Overall, Indiana finished 11-of-22 (50%) from behind-the-arc. Indiana has now won five of its last six games. The Fever take a 17-10 overall record into the All-Star break. The Fever are back in action next Tuesday on the road at the Seattle Storm. Tip-off is set for 9:30 p.m. EDT.
‘It’s (courthouse) official’ Indiana Pacers’ Star Tyrese Haliburton and Jade Jones Get Married Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton got hitched Tuesday! His wife, Jade Jones, shared photos on social media with the caption, “it’s (courthouse) official.” We’ve gotten word they tied the knot in downtown Indianapolis at the City-County Building. We expect a bigger event announcement soon. Haliburton proposed last July on the Hilton Coliseum basketball court at Iowa State University. Haliburton played for the Cyclones men’s basketball team and Jones was a cheerleader. They started to date in 2019. Haliburton and Jones will hold a wedding ceremony Aug. 1, according to an online registry. Haliburton hinted at that date with a comment Tuesday on a Jones social media post. “Two more weeks, we changing that name,” Haliburton wrote on the post , which featured a photo of the couple at Sunday’s World Cup Final.
Haliburton popped the question just a month after he tore his right Achilles tendon during Game 7 of the Pacers’ NBA Finals loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2025. He missed the entire 2025-26 NBA season. Jones celebrated her bachelorette party last month in St. Barts. Tragedy struck when one of her friends, Makenzi Kern, died “unexpectedly from health complications” during the trip, according to her obituary. Kern, 26, also was a cheerleader for the Cyclones. “She loved and supported Tyrese and me through every chapter,” Jones wrote June 17 on Instagram. “She was our biggest cheerleader and showed up for me in every big moment in my life.
“I can’t even imagine our wedding day without her there celebrating with us. The day will not be the same without her, but I know she will show us she is there somehow. She has been there for all of our moments since the day I met Tyrese. But Kenz will forever live on in my memories, my laughter, my stories, and in the person I am because of her. “I will never stop laughing about all our memories together.” Haliburton, who dealt with shingles during his rehabilitation from Achilles tendon surgery, has said he is mostly recovered. He is expected to be ready for the start of the 2026-27 NBA campaign. The two-time All-NBA and All-Star selection signed a five-year, $244.6 million contract extension with the Pacers in 2023.
Caitlin Clark named as cover athlete for ‘NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition’ On Wednesday, NBA 2K announced Caitlin Clark as the cover athlete for the NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition. The third-year Fever guard and 2024 No.1 overall pick is averaging a career-high 20.7 points per game. Clark has had a historic start to this season with the Fever. Just a week ago, Clark scored a Fever franchise-record 45 points along with 10 assists. Clark’s career-high night made her the first player in WNBA history to record 45 points and 10 assists in a game. A week later, NBA 2K revealed her cover photo on X (Formerly Twitter). Caitlin Clark is alongside Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and former Bulls star Derrick Rose as NBA 2K27 cover athletes. Wembanyama is the cover athlete for the Standard Edition, and Rose is the cover athlete for the Ultra Edition.
Indiana Pacers Waive Taelon Peter After one season with the Indiana Pacers, the No. 54 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft is being waived, according to insider Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. Taelon Peter played 38 games for the Pacers last season and spent two Summer League stints with the organization before this decision was made. During his rookie season, Peter averaged 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 turnovers per game. For the 2026 Summer League Pacers team, he was a starter in all five games and played in the shooting guard and small forward positions. His overall play in Summer League was okay, but for already having one year of experience the hope was that he would showcase more. This was a unique roster that was extremely small and didn’t have a natural rim protector in the starting lineup next to him. Peter struggled to stand out, as he was used mostly as the 3rd or 4th option on the floor.
In 5 games here were his Summer League stats: 52 points (10.4 points per game). 18-36 shooting (50%). 10-28 from 3 (35.7%). 8 assists (1.6 per game). 8 rebounds (1.6 per game). 6 steals (1.2 per game). 11 turnovers (2.2 per game). Peter was signed to one of Indiana’s three two-way contracts with Ethan Thompson — and in a surprising offseason move, Kobe Brown — who was brought back after becoming an unrestricted free agent. Dustin Dopirak, of the Indy Star, reported after the NBA Draft that the Pacers would be signing Braden Smith to a two-way contract. In order for the Pacers to add Smith to a two-way contract, someone had to be waived. This makes sense on why Indiana moved on from Peter, but there are still questions to be answered. The Pacers also extended a two-way qualifying offer to Jalen Slawson in late June, making him a restricted free agent. He was the most impressive player on the Pacers’ Summer League squad, making his case stronger to be retained by the team on one of the three two-way contracts.
Speculation has been that the Pacers would keep Slawson on a two-way deal with Brown and Smith, meaning the team would have to move on from Thompson who did not play with the Summer League Pacers’ squad because he was playing for the Puerto Rican national team. However, Thompson was one of the best players for Puerto Rico and is a talented guard-forward. If the Pacers wanted to make this decision easier, they could use their open roster spot and sign Smith to a veteran’s minimum contract for a player with zero years of experience for $1.35 million — instead of a two-way deal. This would allow them to keep all four players on the roster, and Smith is the only one of the four that the team could sign to a standard contract and be under the first apron threshold. There are still more questions to be answered with how the Pacers navigate these tough decisions, and unfortunately Peter did not do enough to stick with the organiziation for more than one season.
Caitlin Clark Declines WNBA All-Star Game 3-Point Contest as her Teammates Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston Not Included The Indiana Fever will have no representation in the WNBA’s annual 3-point contest during All-Star Weekend in Chicago. Three-time All-Star Caitlin Clark declined an invite from the league, who announced the full line-up Tuesday. Clark will still play in Saturday’s marquee event as the captain of Teresa Weatherspoon’s team. Clark will lead Team Spoon as the second-highest vote-getter from fan ballots, receiving 1,023,321 votes. Clark previously said no to the 2024 3-point contest and was planning to participate in last year’s event in Indianapolis before injuring her leg just before the All-Star Break. Clark’s teammates Aliyah Boston and Sophie Cunningham, who led the league in three-point percentage, are also not included in the list for Tonight. Cunningham is hitting 43.7% of her shots past the arc, which is second-best in the WNBA, and has rapidly become a fan favorite with her unabashed demeanor on the floor. Boston has the best percentage, netting 46.9% of her shots.
Before the full lineup was released Tuesday, Boston said she would “probably not” be participating in the 3-point contest, despite working to grow her game from range. In fact, midway through the season, Boston has already made more triples than her last three seasons combined. “That was definitely something that I (wanted to work on) … being able to shoot the three ball a lot more and at a higher rate,” Boston said. “So, for me to see them go in this year, I’m super excited. I think that was something that I really drilled this offseason.” Boston will still be a part of All-Star Weekend as a now four-time All-Star. Boston will join Clark on Team Spoon, while Fever veteran and four-time All-Star Kelsey Mitchell will be on the other side of the floor playing for Team Coop. The 2026 WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Eastern at the United Center. Fans can watch the television broadcast on ABC.
