The Top Ranked team in Class 5A the Bloomington South Panthers beat the Columbus North Bulldogs 24-7 Friday Night at Fred Huff Memorial Field in Bloomington to stay unbeaten at 6-0 and will have an extra day of preparation as they get ready to make a four and half hour bus ride this Saturday to Ironton Ohio for a 3 PM matchup with the Ironton Tigers who are 5-1 on the season after a 47-40 loss to the Big Walnut Golden Eagles from Sunbury, Ohio.
The Panthers have outscored their opponents 292-48 and average 48.7 points on offense and give up 8 points per game on defense. Columbus North who started 3-0 and outscoring the opponent 112-29 has dropped three in a row being outscored 75-29 averaging 23.5 points on offense and giving up 17.3 points on defense. The Panthers and the Bulldogs were scoreless at halftime and took control in the second half. Bloomington South now leads the series 24-18 in the last 40 years and has won four of the last five in the series.
Perry Meridian beat Bloomington North 35-6 on the Southside of Indianapolis. The Cougars have lost two in a row dropping to 3-3 on the season and suffer their first road loss of the season. The Cougars have been outscored 114-26 in their three road losses and have outscored the opponent 124-78 in their three wins. The Cougars will make another trip to Indianapolis to face the Decatur Central Hawks are 5-1 on the season and have won five in a row after a 31-6 home loss to Avon in Week 1.
Perry Meridian improves to 4-2 on the season and has won two in a row. The Falcons have outscored their opponents 135-44 in their four wins and been outscored 79-28 in their two losses. The Falcons travel to Martinsville this Friday to face the winless Artesians. This was the first meeting between Bloomington North and Perry Merdian since 2017, and Perry Meridian leads the all-time series 20-6 in the last 40 years.
Vincennes Lincoln beat Edgewood 35-14 Friday Night at Inman Field in Vincennes as the Alices celebrated homecoming. This was the first regular season meeting between the two teams as Vincennes Lincoln joined the Western Indiana Conference this season and now lead the series 2-0 after Vincennes Lincoln beat Edgewood 28-0 on October 29, 2021, in the Sectional Semifinals at Edgewood. The Alices are 4-2 on the season and have won two in a row. Vincennes Lincoln has outscored the opponent 160-20 and been outscored 98-27 in their two losses. Vincennes Lincoln will travel to 2-4 Evansville North on Friday at 7:30 PM.
Edgewood falls to 3-3 on the season and has lost all three road games by a combined score of 113-20 and have won all three homes games by a combined score of 109-27. The Mustangs remain on the road this week to take on the 3-3 Sullivan Golden Arrows who lost at home to Owen Valley 38-30. The Mustangs have not beaten Sullivan since a 14-6 win at Edgewood on September 19, 2014.
