Indiana University Football drops again in both polls despite 4-0 start Voters aren’t convinced by the 4-0 reigning national champs. Indiana dropped a spot to No. 6 in the AP top 25 this week and fell a spot to No. 5 in the coaches’ poll following its 29-23 win over Northwestern. The Hoosiers were passed by both Miami and Ohio State in the latest AP Poll, but passed Ole Miss. In the coaches’ poll Indiana dropped a spot to No. 5 and were passed by Miami. IU is still getting one first place vote in the AP Poll, and eight in the coach’s poll. 13 of 18 Big Ten teams are either ranked in one of the polls or receiving votes. Indiana and Ohio State (AP No. 5, Coaches No. 6) are the top-ranked Big Ten teams in the polls, with Iowa (14, 14), Oregon (15, 15), USC (18, 18), UCLA (23, 23), Penn State (RV/22) and Michigan (RV, 24) all ranked in at least one of the polls, while Nebraska, Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota and Northwestern are all receiving votes in at least one of the polls. IU’s schedule still includes six teams ranked or receiving votes: Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota, USC and Washington. Those games are bookended by games against teams both unranked and receiving no votes — Rutgers and Purdue. Indiana vs. Rutgers (1-3) is on Saturday evening in Piscataway, N.J. (8 p.m. ET, BTN).
Indiana University Football Running Back Turbo Richard has high ankle sprain Indiana may have dodged a bullet on Friday night. According to a report by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, running back Turbo Richard suffered a high ankle sprain when he was tackled on the sideline in the first half against Northwestern. ESPN is also reporting via sources Richard’s injury is not serious and he should return soon, perhaps even next weekend against Rutgers. Indiana will issue multiple injury reports ahead of the Rutgers game. Richard left the game and did not return. High ankle sprains typically take multiple weeks to recover from, and they can linger, but that injury would be unlikely to cost Richard the remainder of the season.
In a social media post Saturday, Richard seemed to confirm the injury is not long term. “Appreciate all the love, support, and prayers from everyone,” Richard said. “Thankful for my teammates, coaches, family, friends, and Hoosier Nation. God’s got me — I’ll be back soon.” Richard has 50 carries for 383 yards and four touchdowns this season. He entered the season as part of a trio of backs expected to share carries. Another member of that trio, Khobie Martin, was injured in week one and is not expected to return until midseason. Lee Beebe, Jr. took all of the running back snaps in the second half against Northwestern and had a career-high 203 rushing yards for the game. With Richard and Martin out, Indiana is down to three scholarship running backs — Beebe, second-year Sean Cuono and first-year Jayreon Campbell. Neither Cuono or Campbell have significant college experience.
Indiana University Women’s Soccer Falls at Northwestern 2-0 Indiana women’s soccer falls to Northwestern 2-0 as they move to four straight conference losses. The Hoosiers made a strong effort during the first half, but Northwestern was able to find their footing, scoring both goals in the second half. With the loss, the Hoosiers hold a 4-6-1 record overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Hoosier offense made several attempts at goal in the first half, forcing four saves by the Northwestern keeper. Holding the Wildcats to three shot attempts, Indiana went into the break tied a zero. Northwestern found the back of the net in the 62nd minute with an unassisted goal by Camryn Freeman. Freeman scored her second goal of the game in the 78th minute, securing the win for Northwestern. She was assisted by Alex Fallon on the play. Eight Hoosiers recorded a shot Emily Graham 2, Grace Hamm 2, Piper Coffield 2, Bella Haggerty, Maggie Ledwith, Paige Droner, Emma Ehret and Krista Murphy. Indiana forced a yellow card on Northwestern. IU Held Northwestern to three first half shot attempts. IUWS returns home next Sunday as they are set to host the Michigan Wolverines. The Hoosiers will have their first game on the Big Ten Network for a noon kickoff.
Indiana University Men’s Golf to Compete in Annual Windon Memorial Classic The Indiana Hoosiers men’s golf program will continue the fall schedule at the Windon Memorial Classic played today and tomorrow. The 54-hole event will be played at the Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Ill. The 16 Teams are competing are Cal Poly, Charlotte, Georgia Southern, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oral Roberts, Penn State, South Florida, UC Davis and Washington. The Indiana Lineup includes Jake Cesare, Nick Piesen, Bradley Chill Jr., Jamison Ousley and Cole Starnes with Alec Cesare playing as an individual.
Charlotte, the 20th-ranked team in the final 2025-26 college golf ranking, headlines the 16-team field. Notre Dame (No. 32), Kansas (39), Washington (45), Northwestern (50), South Florida (54), Georgia Southern (59), Kentucky (64), Marquette (71), Minnesota (73), and Michigan State (77) all closed the season inside the top 100 of the Scoreboard rankings. Indiana finished at No. 100. Indiana will be paired with Kansas, Marquette, and Oral Roberts for the opening rounds. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET for the first and second rounds this morning The final round will utilize rolling tee times beginning at 9 a.m. ET tomorrow. IU finished ninth in the event during the 2025-26 season with a score of 852 (-12).
Indiana Fever can’t overcome A’ja Wilson’s 38 points and fall to the Las Vegas Aces 102-85 in Game 1 of WNBA playoff series A’ja Wilson played like an MVP, totaling 38 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots Sunday, and the Las Vegas Aces rolled to a 102-85 Game 1 victory over the Indiana Fever in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. Wilson was named the Associated Press WNBA Player of the Year earlier in the day for an unprecedented third year in a row, and the third-seeded Aces looked every bit like the team that has won three of the past four championships. Wilson’s scoring total matched a personal career postseason high. Caitlin Clark and Indiana, which is seeded sixth, will get a chance to even the series on its court when the teams meet Tuesday night and force a Game 3 in Las Vegas. A loss ends the Fever’s season and sends the defending champion Aces on to the semifinals.
It wasn’t all Wilson for the Aces, who also received strong contributions from Jackie Young (21 points, 10 assists), Chelsea Gray (14 points, eight assists) and Jewell Loyd (10 points). Gray now has 397 career playoff assists to pass Courtney Vandersloot (390) for second place in playoff history. Aliyah Boston finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Fever. despite being hampered by a lower leg injury. Clark had 15 points and 10 assists, and Kelsey Mitchell, who put together a record 27-game streak with at least 20 points, scored 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting. Wilson came out blazing, ending the first half with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go with six rebounds and three blocked shots. Fans chanted “M-V-P” when Wilson went to the free throw line. “She’s the MVP for a reason,” Gray said at halftime on the ABC broadcast. “That’s all it is.” The Aces led 62-47 at halftime and were never seriously threatened in the second half, leading by as many as 27 points. They just missed the franchise record for most points in a playoff half. Las Vegas scored 63 points against Phoenix on Aug. 20, 2022.
Indianapolis Colts end 9-game skid with 19-17 victory over the Houston Texans as Spencer Shrader kicks winner with 16 seconds left Spencer Shrader fought through a groin injury to make four field goals, including a 43-yarder with 16 seconds to go, and the Indianapolis Colts’ beleaguered defense barely held up long enough to close out a 19-17 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Colts (1-2) snapped a nine-game losing streak, the longest active skid in the NFL, and won its first game since Nov. 2 at Berlin. It was the Colts’ first victory on American soil since Oct. 26, 2025. Daniel Jones was 24 of 36 for 235 yards and one touchdown, but also fumbled three times and lost two. The second set up Houston’s late go-ahead touchdown.
Jonathan Taylor had 23 carries for 68 yards for Indianapolis. Keenan Allen hauled in six passes for 63 yards and his first TD with the Colts, while Josh Downs caught five passes for 77 yards. Houston is off to its second straight 0-3 start and it was a rugged day for the offense. C.J. Stroud was 16 of 27 for 167 yards with one TD as the Texans finished with just 70 yards on 21 carries and had 223 total yards against a defense that allowed more than 500 yards in each of its first two games. The loss was Houston’s first in the last six games of this series. It looked as though Indy’s struggles would continue when Jones lost the football and Tommy Togiai recovered at the Texans 46-yard line with 4:40 left in the game. Seven plays later, Woody Marks scored on 1-yard run and the extra point gave Houston a 17-16 lead with 1:48 to go. But Jones made the most of his last chance. He hooked up with Laquon Treadwell for 20 yards on Indy’s second play. After a 5-yard run by Taylor, Jones connected with Allen for 5 yards, just short of a first down at the Houston 36. Spencer then made the 53-yarder and the Texans’ final desperation heave sailed out of bounds short and wide of the end zone.
Houston Texans Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair left in the first half with a groin injury, returned at the start of the second half, left again in the third quarter after re-injuring his groin and returned again late in the game. DE Mario Edwards and WR Xavier Hutchinson both left with injuries late in the fourth quarter. Edwards went to the locker room with a left leg injury. Indianapolis Colts Team officials announced Spencer Shrader suffered a groin injury after the opening kickoff, but he didn’t appear to be bothered by it. He made all five of his kicks, including a 58-yarder that matched his career long. DE Laiatu Latu left early with a chest injury, but returned in the second half. Kennan Allen’s first catch of the day was not only his first score with the Colts, it also sent him past former Texans star and Hall of Famer Andre Johnson, for 12th on the NFL’s career list. He now has 1,068 receptions — two behind Colts receivers coach Reggie Wayne at No. 11. Allen also had his 71st career TD reception, moving him into a tie for 50th all-time with Hall of Famer Bob Hayes and Wesley Walker. Referee Ronald Torbert gave the officiating crew a vulgar instruction while his microphone remained on after announcing the fumble on the kickoff had been reversed. “You guys better get your (expletive) together,” Torbert blurted out, drawing laughter inside the stadium. The reversal gave Houston the ball, instead of setting up Indy at the Texans 28. The Texans Return home to face rival Dallas while the Colts Travel to London next Sunday to face Washington.
Taylor University Women’s Volleyball Service Line Dominance Fuels Sweep of No. 19 Mount Vernon Nazarene No. 13 Taylor dominated the service line to the tune of ten aces and only four errors compared to four aces and eight errors in a sweep of No. 19 Mount Vernon Nazarene in a top-20 matchup. Margo Hernandez led the charge at the service line matching a career-high with four aces. Freshman, Emily Livengood recorded three as she leads the squad with 38 this season and Suzanne Storey added a pair while the terrific serves put MVNU out of rhythm all match. At the forefront of the TU offense was Ellie Herschberger, who had a match-high 14 kills on an incredibly efficient .458 hitting percentage. The senior outside added nine digs, three assists, and a pair of blocks in an outstanding performance. The match began with the Cougars racing out to a 5-2 advantage, which proved to be their largest lead of the match, before TU slowly clawed its way back into the set, eventually knotting the score at 12.
Taylor (18-5, 6-2 CL) then built a 19-16 lead, forcing an MVNU timeout, which preceded a 3-0 run by the Cougars to level the score back at 19. Kills by Herschberger and Reagan Kleiman helped the home squad get to set point at 24-21, but MVNU denied it three times to push the set to extra points after TU used its first timeout. A service error gave TU its fourth set point, and it finally took advantage as Storey delivered an ace. The Trojans completely controlled the second set, forcing the visitors to use both timeouts within the first twelve points and running away with a 25-12 set victory.
An early 10-5 lead by TU gave the impression of another easy set win to complete the sweep, but another early timeout by MVNU flipped the momentum with the Cougars matching TU at 11 all. The CL foes went back-and-forth with the scored tied eight times in the set, the final one coming at 21 all before a MVNU service error, a Hernandez ace and a kill by Kleiman gave TU match point. In similar fashion to the opener, MVNU (15-9, 4-4 CL) denied the Trojans twice, but after a timeout Mackenzie Rogers swatted down a kill to send the Cougars home empty handed. Taylor finishes the first half of Crossroads League play on Wednesday, September 30th on the road against Bethel (7-15, 1-7 CL) at 7:00 pm.
