Here’s how Curt Cignetti’s teams have performed following a loss As you’ve probably learned via your favorite search engine, Curt Cignetti wins. Pick your stretch of success for Cignetti ahead of the Ohio State game — no losing seasons, 22 straight overall, 19 straight at home, or how about this — 47 of his last 50 games were wins going back to the 2022 season. But as you were reminded Saturday, sometimes Cignetti does in fact lose. So we wondered, what happens after a Cignetti loss? Overall in his 16 years as a head coach, Cignetti is 152-38 (.800) .  After the first 37 losses he has gone 17-10 (.630) during games played in the same season.  10 of his losses came in the final game of the year and thus not really connected to the next game.  9 of the 10 end of season losses came in a postseason playoff format. 17-10 doesn’t seem particularly impressive by Cignetti standards.  But while he’s never had a losing season, Cignetti’s early teams at IUP and Elon weren’t nearly as dominant as his James Madison and Indiana squads.

In seven-plus seasons at JMU and IU, Cignetti is 5-2 in games after losses, with four more losses coming at the end of the season. And here’s what you need to know about those two losses in that 5-2 mark.  JMU actually lost three games in a row in 2022.  The second of the three straight losses came when starting quarterback Todd Centeio was injured and did not play against Old Dominion.  And then the following week the Dukes lost at Power 4 Louisville after being tied at halftime. Those were JMU’s only losses of the 2022 season.  Cignetti’s 47-3 run started the week after that loss at Louisville, and he hasn’t lost consecutive games since — now going on four full calendar years.

Here’s a season-by-season summary. Curt Cignetti’s Record After Losses: Indiana University of Pennsylvania 2011:  2-1 2012:  1-0 (1 loss at end of season) 2013:  1-1 2014:  2-2 (1 at end) 2014:  2-2 (1 at end) 2015:  2-0 (1 at end) 2016:  1-0 (1 at end) Elon 2017: 1-2 (1 at end) 2018: 2-2 (1 at end) James Madison 2019:  1-0 (1 at end) 2020:  1 at end 2021:  1-0 (1 at end) 2022:  1-2 2023:  1-0 Indiana 2024:  1-0 (1 at end) 2025:  No losses 2026:  ?

Pepper’s Birthday Party bash will happen Sunday, Dec. 13 at the Fishers Event Center, the home court for the Ignite. The party will feature several family-centered activities including a meet-and-greet with Pepper and other Indy mascots, a visit from Santa Claus, a performance by the Ignite’s dance team (the Firestarters), holiday treats and more. That’s not all. For the first time in franchise history, the Ignite will host a preseason game against the Columbus Fury. “We are really excited for our fans, specifically our season ticket members but also those who have never been to a pro volleyball game, to visit our amazing home court for an absolutely free event,” said Carly Klanac, vice president of marketing and game day experience for the Ignite. “Fans will not only be able to see professional volleyball during the scrimmage, they will also experience the Ignite community. They’ll receive all kinds of free gifts from our partners and get a real look at our unique game day environment.”

It will be the first public appearance for both teams as they get ready for the 2027 Major League Volleyball season, which begins in January. Fans will be able to make a donation to Special Olympics Indiana at the event. It’s a part of the Ignite’s ongoing effort to improve access to sports for everyone. “Every athlete deserves a place to play, and Special Olympics has spent decades making that true, both across the country and right here in our community,” said Randi Raff, the team”s director of community relations. “Partnering with them speaks to two of the causes we care about most as an organization: access to sport and a real sense of belonging and inclusion. We want to share our platform with the athletes at Special Olympics and help create more opportunities for Unified sports teams in Hamilton County and beyond. Pepper’s Birthday Party is completely free, and when fans claim their tickets they can choose a donation amount to support Special Olympics Indiana, which serves 20,000 athletes statewide.” The event will start at 1 p.m. Fans can get their free tickets for the celebration and game by clicking here. Dick joined Margo Hernandez (volleyball) in receiving a weekly league accolade on Monday, bumping TU Athletics to 24 such awards during the 2026-2027 year. Dick and No. 21 Taylor will conclude their fall campaign on Monday and Tuesday at the Whistling Straits Classic in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
