8th ranked Indiana Women’s Basketball beats 6th Ranked Maryland for the first time
The Monkey is off the backs of the Indiana Women’s Basketball program after the 8th ranked Hoosiers beat the 6th ranked Maryland Terrapins 70-63 in overtime Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 5,572 inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and showed a Nationally Televised audience on ESPN2 that Indiana Women’s Basketball is on the national radar. Maryland was 11-0 all time against the Hoosiers coming into the game since the teams first met on January 25, 2015 after Maryland joined the Big Ten Conference. This was Maryland’s fifth visit to Bloomington. The Teams have met in College Park five times and twice in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis in 2018 and 2020.  Maryland has been the standard in Women’s College Basketball since joining the Big Ten in the 2014-15 season. The Terps have won 6 of 7 Big Ten Regular Season Titles and 5 Big Ten Conference Tournament Championships in 7 years. Indiana is looking to win the Big Ten regular season title for the first time since 1983 and the Big Ten Tournament since 2002 the only conference titles in program history.

Indiana is 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers had just 9 available players as Sophomore Chloe Moore-McNeil along with Freshman Kaitlin Peterson and Keyarah Berry were not on the bench today.  Indiana had to rely on its starting five who all played 41 minutes or more in this game. Kiandra Browne and Grace Waggoner played a combined 7 minutes off the bench today with Browne scoring 2 points. Ali Patberg led the Hoosiers with 18 points, Aleska Gulbe scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Mackenize Holmes scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Grace Berger and Nicole Cardano-Hillary scored 9 points apiece.

The Hoosiers controlled the game with a half-court offense working the ball around to get the perfect look at basket while chewing up the clock to not get involved in up and down game with Maryland. Indiana was 26-57 from the field for 46 percent, 3-11 from three for 27 percent, and 15-21 from the free throw line for 71 percent. Indiana pulled down 37 rebounds, 14 assists, 7 steals, 1 block, and committed 19 turnovers.

Maryland 10-4 and 2-1 in the Big Ten Conference was led by Angel Reese with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Reese got Maryland going in the first quarter scoring the teams first 7 points but she fouled out in overtime with the Hoosiers taking advantage of her being on the bench. Diamond Miller scored 17 off the bench and Ashley Owusu scored 10 points. Maryland had 9 players available with Channisee Lewis and Taisiya Kozolva not available. Faith Masonius who is a reliable reserve for the Terps went down in the 3rd quarter with a knee injury and was on the sidelines with an icepack on her right knee and on crutches for the rest of the game after scoring 4 points in 9 minutes. Maryland was 21-58 from the field for 36 percent, 3-13 from beyond the arc for 23 percent and 18-23 from the free throw line for 78 percent. Maryland pulled down 35 rebounds, 13 steals, 6 assists, 3 blocks, and committed 19 turnovers.

This game featured 9 ties and 7 lead changes. Maryland led 17-14 after the first quarter. Indiana led at halftime 33-29. The game was tied 45-45 after three quarters before the Hoosiers used 7-0 run to start the 4th quarter. The game went to overtime tied 61-61 before the Hoosiers scored 9 points to just 2 for Maryland in the extra session. The Teams met again in the final regular season game on Friday February 25 in College Park Maryland. Indiana is back in action this Wednesday night when the travel to Wisconsin to face the Badgers at 7:30 PM.

Indiana Men’s Basketball falls at Penn State 61-58
Indiana Men’s Basketball lost at Penn State 61-58 Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers are 10-3 and 1-2 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are 0-3 in true road game and 10-0 at home and neutral site games. Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 20 points while Race Thompson added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana was 23-58 from the field for 39 percent, 4-17 from three for 25 percent and 8-12 from the foul line for 66 percent. The Hoosiers had 29 rebounds, 13 assists, 6 steals, 3 blocks and committed just 6 turnovers.

Penn State 6-5 and 1-2 in the Big Ten was led by Jalen Pickett with 15 points, Myles Dread added 12 points and Sam Sessoms added 10 points. John Harrar pulled down 12 rebounds and Seth Lundy added 10 rebounds. Penn State was 21-51 from the field for 41 percent, 11-22 from three-point range for 50 percent and 8-10 at the free throw line for 80 percent. Penn State pulled down 39 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals, 1 block, and committed 13 turnovers. Penn State is coached by Indianapolis native Micah Shrewsberry who graduated from Cathedral High School in 1995 and played at Hanover College from 1995-99.

Indiana leads the all-time series with Penn State 41-13. The Hoosiers will be back in action this Thursday when they host Ohio State at 7 PM.

Las Vegas Raiders beat Indianapolis Colts 23-20
The Las Vegas Raiders beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-20 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Sunday Afternoon.  Both teams are at 9-7 and still have a chance for the AFC Playoffs with 1 game left to play next weekend. Daniel Carlson hit a 33-yard field goal with no time left to give the Raiders the win.

That was the third field goal for Carlson on the day as he hit two in the 2nd quarter from 44 and 47 yards out. Derek Carr was 24-31 passing for 255 yards with 1 touchdown pass to Hunter Renfroe and 2 interceptions. Josh Jacobs carried the ball 16 times for 63 yards with a touchdown run. Zay Jones caught 8 passes for 120 yards. The Raiders have won 3 in a row and host the Los Angeles Chargers next Sunday Afternoon.

Carson Wentz was 16-27 for 148 yards with one touchdown pass to T.Y. Hilton. Wentz was on the reserve COVID-19 list all week after testing positive but was cleared before the game Sunday to play. Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 20 times for 108 yards and scored a touchdown. Taylor has had 10 games over 100 yards rushing this season and has scored a touchdown in 12 games this season. Michael Pittman Jr caught 6 passes for 47 yards and Michael Badgley hit 2 field goals. The Colts will travel to Jacksonville next Sunday to close out the regular season.

Bloomington South Football Player Dasan McCullough Competes in National All-Star Game
Bloomington South Linebacker Dasan McCullough was one of three players from the state of Indiana compete in the Under Armour High School Football All-American Game in Orlando Florida Sunday Afternoon as Team Icons beat Team Legends 23-17. The Indiana University Signee joined Defensive Lineman Popeye Williams from Westfield and Punter Brady Braun from Culver Academies.  102 players from around the country took part in the game which was divided between Team Legends and Team Icons.  McCullough and Braun played for Team Icons and Williams a Louisville signee played for Team Legends.  This was 14th edition of this all-star game dating back to 2008 and the 8th time it has been played in Orlando with the others being played in St Petersburg Florida from 2010-2015.
